If you need more glover needles check fabric land, they sell them in packs of three.

Unique brand glover's needles they sell at fabricland suck so bad. They aren't even sharp. I searched all over for a good supplier of good ones. In Canada though, good ones CAN be found at Walmart.

Oh man, my life right now is beyond words sometimes.

I know I am always saying this, but I am sorry for never updating my blog, I am so busy doing amazing things and enjoying myself so much that I rarely find the time to come here and talk about it.

Rochester was a really good time, there were lots of nice shredders and lots of nice shred.

I competed and got 152 in shred 30, that was much better than my 90-something at the New Years jam in Rochester. I was happy with how I performed, mosdef my best shred 30 ever, not that I practice them or anything. hey, maybe I should?

I did rippin run too, my first round was against Jorden.

I guess they set it up like any other competition with the shitty guys vs the good guys at the start so that it will wind up with the good guys vs good guys at the end. BUT I BEAT JORDEN!

Heheh in reality he just had an early drop, regardless, I moved on to the next round.
I faced Aric Macintosh in the second round and I dropped early, hehe, that's how it goes.

The best moment of the tourny for me was meeting Steve Brown of Duncan Toys. We had probably the most epic conversation Ive ever participated in. We discussed, and solidified, plans to go through with the production of the footbag shoe. They are going to be contracting me and my shoe guy here in Kingston to do the design work of the footbag shoe!! He said they were really impressed with the prototypes and the report we did so they were confident in us going ahead.

I played pretty okay in Rochester, not my best for sure, but I was confident and happy and not too concerned with playing crazy hard or anything.

Cleaver is RETARDED. I was really looking forward to seeing him again and shredding with him and talking with him. He's my Simon Cowell of footbag, he gives me straight up views of my game and I think he is vastly wise. He is thoughtful and doesn't just barf out typical comments. I appreciate it. Oh yeah, and his shred is ridic. REALLY confident and controlled and clean. Ooh, good 'c' words.

I can't think of anything really good I hit, certainly not 15 unique fearless (which David hit!), the only thing that comes to mind right now is torque>symp whirl a few times.

Yesterday I was at school picking up the prototypes from the people that were marking them and I happened to run into my science hero of heros, my absolute favourite professor, who was also the guy that let this project happen in the first place. He was walking along with this guy and he started telling him about how great I was and about the stuff Ive achieved on the footbag shoe project, just singing my praises all over the place. I was blown away!! This guy is like.. the ultimate professor, he's smart and FUNNY and a genius at design and he taught the best two courses I took in my entire time at Queen's.

So after boasting about me (flushing my cheeks thoroughly I am sure) the guy he was with announced that he works for the local newspaper and that he'd like to interview me! So today I met with him and he interviewed me about the project and footbag and so on. It was fun!

Oh man, I am starting to get REALLY excited for my Europe trip this summer! I know it's still hypothetical and it will depend on my family being willing to loan me several thousand dollars again, but I have faith that they love me enough to let me go again.
I have been obsessively playing this one song over and over ever since I found it last night, I am going to use it for my routine since it's better than any song ever. EVER.

I keep picking songs and being like 'YEAAAAHHH!!! that's SO the song I am going to compete with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' and then do the same thing the next day with a totally different song, but this ones just so much awesomer!! I can't wait to really start practicing it and stuff.

Other big news, I have a totally new cast at my house right now! Jared (junkyardjew) and the really fucking gross artist pat have moved out and now Pengpeng and our friend Joel have moved in!!

Our house is so awesome! It's clean and we have stuff like mops and shelves and stuff now. ooOOooh!

Pengpeng is the best. Everrrrrrrrrr. Ive never lived with a girlfriend before. It's not really any different than before because even when we didn't live together we were together basically all the time. The only difference is that we are in my house all the time. It's nice having her around so much, we are a good team. She helps me with stuff and I do the same for her, we compliment eachother where we have weaknesses.

She's a good girl. Very good girl.

Gah, I just noticed I lost my keys. Gotta go find em.

Oh yeah, I got a new bike and it's amazing. Peng got a new one too, hers is adoooooooorable.

im glad you like my bag tom! I felt sooo priviledged to hang with you and Steve and get the low down on the footbag shoe. Steve is a really cool guy. it was cool that he stayed at Aric's because i had more time to talk to him and hang out with him. We discussed the shoe and ways to promote it over breakfast the next morning. He said that you were a great guy and you definitley have the enthusiasm to do this.

I was just telling Peng that i wanna see your apartment revamped! ill have to come up to kingston sometime when you guys aren't busy or in Eruope. we could make a jam out of it and stitch some bags. Oh yea, props on all the cool stuff haha.

Yeah, I'm with Josiah here. I'd love to crash at your place sometime! Maybe, just maybe, Ottawa Day when I party my ass off and stay at your place for a week.

Plus, it would be pretty awesome to check out the Kingston crew. I've been hearing some rave reviews.

Okay........

I guess I have put this off long enough, I have decided to post some pics of the prototypes.

I want these to be viewed with the understanding that they just represent the best I could achieve using existing shoes as the foundation. Making a whole shoe from scrap is a MUCH larger undertaking that was beyond the capabilities of this project.

The first prototype was based on a leather CT 300.

The inside/outside/toe surface have been replaced with a new material made of facile with a strong backing called interweaving.

The sides have all been ground down to the ideal level to be flush with the surfaces. Check out the flattened heel surface.

The second was based off a climacool 1. It has the same mods basically. Oh yeah, and both have big brockas too.

The edges of the toe surface have been pinched and stitched in place to make the area concave slightly for a nice subtle pocket. After this picture was taken I performed the toe-layer mod and removed the topmost layer of mesh making the concavity increase and increasing grip.

Now keep in mind, I am not saying this is what they will look like or anything like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are just what I made for the project. Doing this project has encouraged Duncan to the point where they are now interested in me potentially making an ideal shoe for real.

Last week I mailed in something really important. I sent in to Duncan my 'Inventor Submission' form. The purpose of it is to start a paper trail to ensure that I get credit for the ideas and to ensure that they can't just run off with my shit.

In the same light, my sharing this with you is in good faith that you won't fuck me over and steal my ideas.. somehow. I am not really afraid of that however.

Please understand that this has been a long work in progress. I am continually amazed that the people in charge keep giving me the green lights to go ahead with it.

I mailed Duncan, along with the submission, the full final report from my thesis project from last semester. It is a hulking report that is around 30 pages long. I bet you'd all get a kick out of reading so much tech talk about footbag and stuff, but I can't really reveal everything just yet.

I hope my posting these whets your appetites correctly, I really seek everyones support on this, outright criticism isn't needed or appropriate at this stage. When it eventually happens that we get to design and make a real original shoe for us then we will get to debate endlessly about the curves and materials and stuff until we are satisfied.

Please keep in mind that this is far from my conclusions on what a perfect footbag shoe is.
