I read your blog because you read mine. Sounds like your building a good foundation. Keep up the good work. You certainly have the people around you to help you get to the level you want. Keep it up.

Decent session with Fletcher tonight. My knee hurts. Goddamn it. I don't want to be injured. I want to play footbag. Fuck x10 > rpt

Strung together a whole bunch of nothing interesting, and then I worked on butterflies and clippers and SS butterflies...and pdx mirages a little bit.

Slowly but surely..if my legs hold me up. I'm tired, and hungry, and not in too much of a mood to write more in depth.

Peace.

Though I had a good session today with Fletcher..I'm not too inspired to log much.

I worked clipper>SS butterfly>clipper>infinity>rpt ..though I didn't get past the ss buttefly too much. Butteflies are slowly coming along though..and for the first time I was able to do consecutive clippers and then switch to op clipper and rpt.

Hit:
  • Butterfly>clipper>far legover BSOS
Butterfly>clipper>pdx mirage BSOS (Quite ugly on the flipside)
    Butterfly>clipper>bubba BSOS
Hit a good 19contact string or so at the end of the session..and a 20+ ATW drill (both sides, both directions, linked by legovers).

Footbag is hard, and harder on my body..but I love footbag.

Session tomorrow with Funk and Chad. Word.

It was been quite a while...but my love for the game has been revitalized and I feel inspired to type (I love when inspiration comes in the form of procrasination ;)) in this mug.

Paris was magnificent. The players there have such a different style and methodology. Playing with REALLY good people like Serge and Franck (and meeting Maxx) was just amazing. I love France. The stitchers even do things differently. It was definitely nice to experience other sects of the culture.

Anyhow..I had a session today with Brett (and my friend Eric, for a bit, who I'm trying to influence) and it was a lot of fun. I played really well, especially towards the end. I was just very consistent, with the exception of more clipper based moves. But hey, I worked 'em, and I can't do much more than that.

Things are coming along -- but I imagine after I see a doctor for my knee I'm going to have to take some time off. Ugh. It's a bummer, but I'll just gamble with my health until then.

Whew...I made it to page 3. I haven't been coming around modified too much, as per the doctor's orders. ...well, not really, but I haven't played footbag since mid-April.

Holy shit that was a long time. Though my knees aren't completely healed, they're better and the surrounding muscles are much stronger from PT. I think I honestly just increased my pain tolerance. I never had severe/sharp pain in my knees, I was just alarmed from the aches and pain (which I experienced mostly while not playing) because knees are important joints. I didn't wanna fuck around with my joints, but I think I was being a little hyper-sensitive. I'll be finishing up with physical therapy by next week, and I had my first session tonight with Brett and Funk.

Footbag is soooo much fun. I missed playing more than I can express via foot(b)log (I hate the word blog). Though my consistency went way down, I'm slowly starting to play more (as long as I have some shred mats under my feet). I have to keep the sessions shorter, with less impact, and more infrequently. Tonight was decent though, considering it's been 3.5 months or so since I've kicked a bag. My best strings were probably ~15 contacts, but that will change soon. I hit butterfly > pdx mirage BS back to back, which was a nice little combo aside from the usual tiltless.

I need to drill.

Got to freestyle with my gooonits for the first time :) They're nice..though taking a little playtime to get used to.

Anyhow..this feels convuluted, so I'm gonna cut things short. I'm just estatic to be playing again !

Good for you! That's great to hear, have fun playing footbag and take care of yourself. :-)

great to hear you have goonits,
I started to play with those 3 weeks ago and cannot go back to lavers!
I think the move will help you since the shoe has a way better traction and support
keep it real and take your time!

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys. As for the Goooonits, Mathieu, I love them as well :) I'm currently working on modding out some ClimaCools, because I think they win as far as support goes. It's proving to be quite the pain in the ass, though.

I had an amazing session with Chad and Fletcher today in Venice. We left around 11:30 or so, and upon arrival (after searching for parking, of course) we set down the shred mats..only to be asked/told to move by the police. Things were turning out to be a bust, but we found a shady-ish spot about 40 feet away. Shred on.

After warming up a little bit via kicking, I put on my 2 Cho braces (AKA dorky-ass patellar support) and began to freestyle. These braces are kind of a pain in the ass for two major reasons: (a) either my often unclean illusions or the shitty velcro causes the things to come undone, and (b) I end up having to constantly readjust/tighten the things. All in the name of support and proper healthcare, though.... ::cough::

Considering my gimpy condition, I think I played pretty well. In some ways, I think I actually got better over my benched period. Not in consistency, which went down, but a few mental blocks involving clipper tricks. Before my injury, I always had trouble setting the bag correctly for pdx mirages and far legovers...but today I was hitting those tricks with ease (for the most part). I'm definitely suprised at my pdx mirage consistency. The same for butterfly>infinity>rpt...for some reason I'm having a much easier time making solid delays in between infinities, which makes the following move much easier. Perhaps physical therapy really strengthened my legs..? I suppose that was the point, in many ways.

Anyhow, all in all, it was an awesome session. I had a lot of fun with Chad and Funk (both shredding up a storm, as usual), and we had a lot of spectators..which was cool. Unfortunately Pinkus didn't show up, but hey, we managed to enjoy ourselves without him.

Back to modding these Climas....

Fun session with Brett, Fletch, Ben, and Chad tonight at the Metlox parking structure. Deep underground, where it's nice and damp, and they have signs posted about fumes that people shouldn't be exposed to. Awesome shred spot!

Anyhow..the session started out kind of wack for me, partly because I was trying out some half-way modded ClimaCools, but mainly because I wasn't too warmed up. Because the insides still need to be filled caulking/silicone/goo and I wasn't in the mood to get used to the rounded toes, I switched into the G6s. Things didn't really get much better, and I was sucking it up.

After a bit of frustration, things turned around a little bit. I just needed to concentrate a little more and not let some old pitfalls get the best of me. I hit a few things I was proud of, including one string in which I hit butterfly, pdx mirage, pdx illusion, and far legover all BS. I also managed to hit DLO BSOS, which was amazing (considering it's been so long since I've even hit it on one side).

Got pretty close to whirl, but my knees don't really care for it..so I didn't try too much. I also tried to duck a little bit, but I wasn't too successful.

Goals for the near future: In addition to the regular clean up and improvement in consistency, I'd like to work either ducking/spinning/pixie just to add a little spice to my game. Infinities and SS butterflies definitely need work as well. Osis is in my near future, too.....drilling it, that is.

My knees feel pretty good at the moment, which is nice because I took off my Cho braces early in the session. They get in the way too much, and..call me crazy but...I feel like they make my knees hurt moreso. If I can get away with playing without them, that would be great. We shall see. I'm on a steady regiment of Aleve and, as of today, glucosamine and chondroitin....though I just read an article which makes me think twice. Eh, we'll see..if I don't notice any improvements, then I'll discontinue use. At this point, I'm willing to try anything that seems half-way legitimate to strengthen my joints.

I won't be playing for the weekend, cause I'm going to the Colorado River tomorrow with Brett and Ben! I'm excited. 3.5 days of beer, Sea-Doo, wake-boarding, and ATVs...here I come.

The footblog section is blowin' up, yo! I remember the days when I wouldn't post for a few days and I'd still be on day 1..maybe I'm just posting less?

Anyways..fun session with Chad, Brett, Funk, and Ben last night in 'Mosa. Sketchy characters in that parking structure, I say.

Highlights:
  • pdx mirage, pdx illusion BS in one run..probably sloppily though, as I recall.
whirl! (twice, neither time could I seal it..gotta start somewhere though)
That's about it. I wasn't too happy with last night's session, though 'twas fun. I guess you can play like shit and still have a good time if you're in good company..? The point is that I need to start drilling/having solo sessions. I want to work an uptime set, and consistency like mad. Also, I'm thinking about getting rid of my toe-walls, cause I think I rely on them too much. No more rollie-pollie-ass delays for David.

Short solo school session. Word up to alliterations.

100 flipside mirages in the Clavens fashion. (See: DC on Footbag Philosophy
150 flipside illusions in the same fashion.

That was really exhausting..which just shows me I need to practice more.

Stamina and consistency.

Fortification:
tear > rebuild > repeat

Looking forward to the day session tomorrow with Chad, Brett, Fletch, and Ben. I <3 footbag.

Sesssssion today with Fletch, Chad, and Brett.

It was hot as balls in Hermosa today.

Hot. As. Balls.

Anyways, I had a really good time today..even though I was sweating balls (such a great multi-purpose word, no?). I think I played really well, and had some lengthy strings. Sloppy ass guiltless run of butterfly > pdx illusion > butterfly > pdx mirage > rpt. I've been doing a lot more pdx mirages and pdx illusions..though I really need to work bubba. I couldn't hit if my life depended on it.

Hit whirl pretty cleanly..that was sweet. I'm not sure if my form is correct (as far as which way my knee points during the dex) because I'm focusing so hard on just hitting it period...but I'll deal with that from now on, because I can't afford any more knee injuries.

Hit a decent run starting with DLO...I'd like to work those and, eventually, throw them into runs more often, because my game is pretty boring. I virtually have eliminated symposium moves to have a low impact game, so a nice double dex move like DLO is called for. Chad says they have less impact than mirages.....I suppose it's all in the style.

The US Open is becoming a possibility..so I'm excited for that. I was hoping to get the hell out of the South Bay for a little bit once this summer course I'm taking is over with (August 3rd), so it only makes sense that it should be the US Open! ..Just gotta find a place to crash...

Anyhow..goals for the next session(s)/near future:
  • Bubbas
    Butterflys (specifically, infinities)
    pdx mirages/rev. mirages
    whirl (BS)

You've had knee trouble in the past? I admit I haven't read much of your blog yet, but I do plan to keep following it. :)

Seeing that link again to Clavens' Footbag Philosophy makes me want to try that style of practice again, so thanks for a tip in a new direction.

Keep having fun,

I'm not sure if my form is correct
The whirl you hit was clean. But when you raise your leg just be careful to remember to point your knee down so it doesn't get mad at you.

Work on flip. :D

Siiiiiick session tonight with Chad, Fletch, and Brett. Tons o' fun!

I was very happy with how I played tonight. I'm proud of a few things:
  • DLO bsos
 Pdx illusion > buttefly > rpt (x4) > pdx mirage > butterfly > rpt (x2) > drop (more or less)
    29 contact string
 Clipper DLO (strong clipper only)
 Ducking clipper (strong clipper only..though I furiously tried to hit it on my flip, and got pretty close)
 whirl (strongside...still need to attempt hitting it on my flip
 bubba bsos (my flipside is mad hippy, for better or worse)
Tons of fun was had by all.

Goals for next session:
  • Ducking clipper (BS, drilled to a fine point)
    Flipside whirl
 Infinities that don't make me crouch over like a hunchback and lose all control and fluidity
That's all for now..I need to shower.

Session today in MB with Brett, Chad, and Funk. Fun times..though I was/am pretty tired, so I wasn't all that amped. Which is a bummer..cause I don't play footbag enough to have somber sessions. I need to get more rest.

Anyways..not too proud of anything I hit. I hit maybe 12 contacts of butterfly > pdx mirage > rpt. Had some strings of decent length, but all and all..I'm pooped. Time to shower, study, and then EAT!

Yey.

Una sesión en Hermosa anoche con Fletcher y Brett.

I played in my ClimaCools for the entire session, for the first time. It was tough.

I don't know how people play with those toes, but I'm impressed. I was having a hell of a time catching anything on them..though I managed/improved over the course of the session. My knees feel pretty good right now (who knows how I'll feel tomorrow), so it'd be nice if I could acclimate. Learning to play in these shoes will either clean up my toe game, causing me to use super steady delays..or completely bastardize it, because the set seems to be very different.

Anyways..didn't hit too much..just struggled to get used to these shoes. I can hit everything I could before..but it's just tough, and much harder to string tricks together.

Now I don't know which shoes to bring with me to Boise/Portland. Maybe I should play it safe and bring the G-Units..I want to be able to hit something, or anything when I go.

Anyways..bigger fish to fry. Math final is tomorrow (thank-fucking-god) !

I like that phrase. ;)

I've never used clima's, but I'd bet you'll find the answers you're looking for somewhere on modified.

Good luck on your math final. What math are you in?

Math final went alright, thanks for the good wishes :) I was taking math 191 (Calculus II). Thank god that's over with. Whew.

Anyways..I'm posting from Boise, Idaho, and I'm loving it. Great people and better food. My family, being Spanish, likes sangria. I've had sangria two nights in a row. Funny.

Anyways, I was honored to kick at the home of Freedom Footbags today, out in Nampa. I borrowed my uncle's truck and headed the 15miles or so to Daryl and Sunny's place. Soooo fun. Watching Jim was incredible. That guy...uh, he's pretty good, I guess.

Also present at the session: the Jackson family. Really fun kicking with those guys, since I'm closer to their level. Definitely a good time had by all (or by me, at least), though I'm still adjusting to these dirty ClimaCools.

Oh yeah, I bit the bullet and decided against bringing my G-Units. I'm going for full support, since I'm going to be shredding quite a bit on this little journey. I feel like ClimaCool toes were not made for footbag...whicih is bizarre, because they're a moderately used shoe. Anyways, I'm just going to drill legovers like they're nothing, and hopefully I'll be able to adapt. I definitely was doing better by the end of the session today, but my string length is pretty much non-existent.

Werd to schooling. Hoping to play again with the Idaho crew..if not in the new couple days then on Wednesday, since they're coming to downtown Boise for "Live After Five." I don't know what kind of liberal garbage that is...ha, nightlife and shit. Who ever heard of such a thing?

I'm rambling. Peace ya later.
