This must've slipped my mind, but which sentance is grammatically correct?

"It's time for your next class." says Mr. Rivers, my math teacher.

-a period after class or a comma after class

"It's time for your next class," says Mr. Rivers, my math teacher.

The comma goes inside the quotation marks, and there's no period.

Funny, in Finnish the comma goes outside the quotation marks. No period though.

"It's time for your next class", says Mr. Rivers, my math teacher.

Mr. Rivers, my math teacher, says: "It's time for your next class."

Is it really different, or has some of us mistaken? I mean, I checked this from my Finnish grammar book just to be sure.

I'm absolutely freakin' 100% positive that the comma goes inside the parentheses. I've taken a lot of advanced placement english classes and have overall learned a good deal of grammar. PLEASE LET IT GO.
