Thought people might appreciate this video of Anthony Gatto - the Vasek of Juggling (or maybe Vasek is the Gatto of footbag
)
http://homepage.mac.com/anthonygatto/.P ... ickUps.mov
I heard that when he was about 12 Anthony came passed a street performer who was trying to juggle 6 or 7 balls (and dropping them) and Anthony said something like "that's shit - you suck" and the street performer - getting annoyed about being told he was shit by a little kid gave him the balls and said "you have a go" and Anthony proceeded to juggle them all, then pull out more balls and went up to juggling 10 balls I think. Apparantly the street performer packed up and went home.

Ahh.
I'm trying to learn Mills Mess.
I can do the two-ball warmup that Jorden shows in the video, but once he adds 3 balls it's moving way too fast to understand (and the word descriptions are too complicated to follow too
). Could someone film Half Mess, or something that should come before learning Mills Mess? I feel overwhelmed, like when you first start freestyle and try to understand how torque works...
Stefan's suggestion makes sense, but I can't even figure out how to crossed-arm cascade -- reverse cascade is much easier...
Any more tips?
EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks so much for the feedback on my video, Sam; I PMed you too. Thank you!
EDIT 2: I got 16 rotations of flip shower last night! That's more than my goodside record of 12; I couldn't even beat it on my goodside (I think it might have to do with carpel tunnel which I think I might have in my good wrist); I can put both showers into runs a lot more easily now. I also beat my Box record again, with either 33 or 43, I forget, but I'm assuming 33. And I think I got Windmill both sides, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. This is really fun! Oh yeah, I also just fashioned myself a 4th ball and I got, like, 2 rotations of 4-ball shower. Haha. I think it would be easier with a higher ceiling, but maybe not.

Is it normal that beginners have such trouble learning new moves??
I'm trying to learn a bunch of tricks that seem, like, right where I should be moving towards, but I can't seem to get the timing right. I just learned Fake Mess from the Wildcat site, but I'm having troubles with Take Outs, and Shuffle, which isn't on Wildcat. They both seem fairly non-difficult, but I just can't seem to understand how my hands should move. It's hurting my head trying to figure out these moves -- is this normal? Footbag never gave me this much trouble.
For Shuffle I can't seem to understand what I do with the third ball when I am tossing the "direct-toss" diagonally down. Rah. (Would tossing really high to start help?)
For Take Outs I'm not really sure which ball I am "taking out". I understand that it's just like cascade and that you circle and grab the one you just threw and then bring that around and toss it straight up on the other side (yes?), but when I start with cascade I can't seem to figure out which ball to grab, and therefore I'm not sure which ball to toss up instead?
I was also having trouble with inverted shower (similar to factory/robot?) -- this is basically the same problem as Shuffle, except the added accurate "dragging" motion that is required at the top...
Is there another good site with written tips?
Thanks.

Juggling is pretty much the hardest shit ever to figure out, honestly. It's about 10x as difficult for me to learn a new pattern or move in juggling than in footbag. It's because you're only dealing with the location of one thing in footbag and 2-3+ in juggling and other object manipulation. My tip to you Erik would be to spend a lot of time really getting what you have down. Juggle to music and really be creative. While juggling is really difficult in terms of patterns, it's very, very easy to be creative and to do a bunch of cooling looking silly stuff. Try all your surfaces! Incorporate footbag moves. Patterns come with time, and one of the beauties of juggling that I've found is that often times when you're trying to figure out a new pattern you'll discover a ton of other weird and really cool patterns. While trying to learn Rubenstein's I came up with four other patterns. The only problem is that naming conventions are so difficult! People bitch about move names in footbag, but really they should be thankful they have such an explicit and easy to learn naming structure.
Cool, thanks for the advice Sam.
Yeah, I can see how I could discover a lot from trying to learn a single thing. My "bail" move is some combination of cascade, tennis, and, like...423? Kind of?
I know that I could totally spend a lot more time on the patterns that I have, and I do mix stuff up to music, but I just find that it's getting boring with so few tricks. I started out being more creative, I find, than I am now. I tend to just do pattern after pattern really predictably, like drills in footbag.

Yeah, I feel you. At first when you have so few patterns to draw from it's really boring to juggle. I started out juggling for 20 minutes every day or two out of boredom and now that the moves that I can do and work on are sooo many I find myself having much longer and more frequent sessions. Now it's starting to actually be pretty fun.
Also, don't worry about falling into doing the same thing over and over again. It has to be done to get your repetoire consistent enough to expand your vocabulary and not have gaping holes in your foundation.

Hey Erik, Shuffle is actually on Wildcat, its down the bottom on the right hand side. He does a really big arch when he is throwing the diagonal ball, i dont see how he has so much time cos i am still struggling with getting consecutive shuffles, i cant do it at all. I can easily do the motion both sides though and just taught myself See-Saw shuffle (Luke's Shuffle) while watching Black Belt Jones
Im stuck trying to get the consec shuffles down though...
