Did you try Yuengling while you were in PA? Supposedly the stuff is brewed in the oldest brewery in the US, over in Potsville, and the shit il delicious.

Tried a couple of new beers over the last few days:

Forrester Pale Ale:
Made in North East Tasmania and proclaims to be using "pride of ringwood" hops although I thought they were bitter and overpowering and nothing to be proud of. Apart from the strong hops, it was a bit yeasty and I wasn't a fan.

Cascade First Havest 2006. Every year Cascade (Local brewer but fairly big - ie. definitely not a micro brewery) makes a batch of beer with the years first havest of hops. As with last year, this year sucked. Even more so than the forrester, the hops was far too strong, overpowering and basically raw. There was really nothing to this beer at all apart from the hops. Over priced too.

Been drinking a bit of Guiness lately as we have it on tap at my new job, its good but you gotta be in Ireland at an O.G Irish pub for the real good shit

There's talk of James Squires brewing a special beer specifically for Sydney Uni, I look forward to it, being a fan of a few of their beers, particually their Pale Ale.

The new Syd Uni Squires is O.K not as nice as the Pale Ale or Golden Ale. Its closer to the Squires Pilsner.

BEWARE OF NEW SCAM!!!!

Police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties & local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink from any woman. Many females use a date rape drug on the market called "Beer." The drug is found in liquid form and is available anywhere. It comes in bottles, cans, or from taps and in large "kegs". Beer is used by female sexual predators at parties and bars to persuade their male victims to go home and sleep with them. A woman needs only to get a guy to consume a few units of Beer and then simply ask him home for no strings attached sex. Men are rendered helpless against this approach. After several beers, men will often succumb to the desires to sleep with horrific-looking women whom they would never normally be attracted to. After drinking beer, men often awaken with only hazy memories of exactly what happened to them the night before, often with just a vague feeling that "something bad" occurred. At other times, these unfortunate men are swindled out of their life's savings, in a familiar scam known as "a relationship." In extreme cases, the female may even be shrewd enough to entrap the unsuspecting male into a longer-term form of servitude and punishment referred to as "marriage." Men are much more susceptible to this scam after beer is administered and sex is offered by the predatory females.

If you fall victim to this "Beer" scam and the women administering it, there are male support groups where you can discuss the details of your shocking encounter with similarly victimised men. For the support group nearest you, just look up "Golf Courses" in the phone book.

True, but I will never like beer. I can put money down on that. My "grown up taste buds" have already set in and I like a lot of certain foods that appeal more to adults, and less to younger people. That includes some drinks that I used to despise. But beer will always be nasty.

Fred, you need DEDICATION!!! ;) DRINK DRINK DRINK that beer! you will learn to like it. What you need is a crispy, light, tasty microbrew, like some kind of wheat beer with a hint of a berry or maybe citrus. That's a great way to start learning to appreciate a good beer.

I wouldn't know where to start listing things for this thread. I love trying many different microbrews, and lots of stuff I've never tried before. Sometimes I'm disappointed, but there is SO much good stuff out there. Variety is the spice of life. I recommend you get your hands on some footbagger homebrew. Jack Lentz, Gordon Bevier, Cameron Kennedy... all three of these cats have brewed up some delicious stuff for us to enjoy. I hope they do again in the future.

my friend back in tassie brews a delicious ginger beer ... seriously tastes as good as bundaberg (for you australians), whilst being around 12% alchohol 8O.

regarding commercially brewed stuff, the only beer i buy these days comes out of a small fremantle brewery and is called 'gage roads' ... i drink their pure malt lager, but they also make an IPA that poos all over james squire, etc.

this beer is brewed from 100% natural ingredients and contains no preservatives ... meaning i sincerely have never woken up with a hangover from it ... seriously!!

jeremy was also a bit of a mentor for me regarding beer at nationals (so wise at such a young age) ... i really really loved the moo brew wheat beer, and then found the hoegarden (i think that's how it's spelt) wheat beer to be even better ... thanks jeremy ... they taste like milk though, so maybe they shouldn't count?

oh beer ... i could go on and on .

Thanks for the encouragement Matt, however I'm just going to stick to mixing my own drinks for a while. Who knows, maybe one day I'll get sick of that though. Then I'll PM you for advice on where to start.

I laugh at my dad anytime he askes me if I snuck out some of his beers. Because he knows that I don't like em, but subconciously, he still suspects me, lol.

As of right now, it's cheaper, and more fun to drink our own mixed drinks. None of my friends are big fans of beer. Except for one... Josh... but he's become a douche nozzle lately and no one seems to like him anymore...

But I'll get out of your beer topic now and stop making the mood sour.

While I was in Toronto last month, I had a great Irish Cream Ale called Kilkenny.
I had it on tap ... but it's probably not that much worse out of a can or bottle.

Not really a fan of Kilkenny or any Irish beers for that matter. Too thick, and I am usually too embarrassed to ask for a spoon.

That said, I tried Matilda Bay's Dogbolter the other day (which is actually brewed in Victoria, and not WA) and was mildly impressed. Matilda Bay has such a high reputation that it would have had to be amazing to be really impressive. Still it was a good dark beer. Mild hop flavour, but I think the best bit is that the typical dark malty finish was not as strong and over powering as in a lot of other dark beers. It tasted more refined and diverse than a lot of dark ales I've had recently. That said, I drunk it from a bottle at about 2 am in a club after I'd been drinking from 1 pm that afternoon (you should always drink from a glass) so I'll need to try it at least a few more times before making a better judgement ;)

They have taken James Squires Amber ale off the taps at my work. A sad day.

The worst of it was, they decided to take it off before the keg was finished, and instead of calling me to help with an emergency 'clean up operation' (read: massive session), they poured 40 litres of it DOWN THE FUCKING SINK. My mate videoed it on his phone and showed it to me. I nearly cried.

What did they replace it with i hear you ask? Pure Blonde.
