The lead issue

Actaully, I have found the oppsite to be true. The rust that comes off of steel always made my bags filled with that alot stiffer than the ones with lead in them.

well, i figure you should be able to get stainless steel - or the copper coated versions... basically anything that doesn't rub off - which lead does without doubt.

about strenghtening the material with the rubbing off lead... IMO everything that makes a bag less stiff makes it better, take proper care of your bag and you won't neeed lead panels...

and, yes i am aware of the fact that graphite is used in pencils nowadays.
