I'll try to make this my last post regarding this in this thread.

Yes, totally. It is a different trick. When you set from toe it requires a different set, both directionally and in terms of height, to do a drifter. This then forces you to move your hip differently and pivot perhaps a little differently. For someone who just started hitting drifter, this makes all the difference!! For them it would be absurd if they couldn't get two uniques from the move. Following that logic, blurry muted clipper, quantum muted clipper, and any variations of these two tricks with different degrees of crispiness would be the same trick, and that is absurd. A midtime drifter from clipper is way easier to do than a midtime drifter toe, at least imo. This isn't the case for everyone. The exact same set of reasoning can be applied to the double down moves.

Here is my criteria for a "unique" trick in a shred30:

1) A unique trick is 3 adds or higher.
2) A trick executed on the left side is unique from a trick executed on the right side.
3) Once a trick has been executed on a particular side it is no longer unique if executed again on that particular side.
4) A unique trick has a distinct jobs notation from any other unique trick. (i.e. If two tricks executed on the same side have the same jobs notation then they are not unique)*

*side note: I think the timing of dexes can change the jobs notation of a trick (i.e. the placement of >> in the trick) ex: ss dlo vs plo

It follows from 4) that barfly and downdoubledown are not unique from each other because apparently they have the same jobs notation. However, blurriest and blurrier are unique tricks because they clearly have different jobs notation.

I think the issue with doubledowns arises because most people do the first dex fairly uptime to midtime with a very low set. Consequently, a barfly tends to feel quite different from a downdoubledown similar to how a leggy fairy set feels different from a leggy atomic set (compare far to ss).

A legover dex on the other hand is usually done quite downtime, so a far legover doesn't *feel* very different from a ss legover.

It comes down to opinion then. Is the first dex in a doubledown uptime enough to consider it a "set" and thus unique from it's variations? If you think it does then there are probably other tricks that also need the same consideration. If you don't then the doubledown variations should not be considered unique in a shred30.

Of course the definition of "unique" could always be changed to specify uniqueness of particular tricks. Alternatively, the definition of jobs notation could be tweaked to your fancy.

I don't even think it really matters what rules are chosen as long as the rules are defined well beforehand, giving the competitors time to adjust their strategies accordingly. :)

wow roars, you convinced me...

or not. Like Sam, I'm not competing, I just got sucked in. Shred30 is lame anyways. I really don't care how you guys judge it actually. Maybe I'm wrong about everything ...

And I'll jump on the bandwagon of how much of a kicksweetass time it's going to be!!

I was not aware that barfly and down double down had the same jobs... In fact, they DON'T have the same jobs.

I forgot to mention in my theoretical definition of "uniques" that I wasn't considering the setting surface in jobs notation unless a trick begins with an uptime set (I redefined jobs notations without explicitly saying so ;)). Without a setting surface, the op or same on the first dex of barfly and downdoubledown becomes irrelevant.

Entrance into competition is $20. you can do as many as you'd like for that price. t-shirts will be extra. you must be an IFPA member to compete in open. I will have IFPA membership forms with me at the jam. The prize bag for rippin' run is incredible. I am now going to try my hardest to win it :)

I was thinking the same thing.

Any Apple-only fonts look very, very unprofessional on shirts.

I would also consider capitalizing the A in annual.

That design is really, really sweet, though, Evan!

Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

Looks like a bigger turn out than last year, awesome!

I just wanted to give a heads up to you folks in Missoulla Land...

Originally, our plan was to leave Friday morning at roughly 4:30, and be in Missoulla anywhere in the late afternoon hours. That may still be the case, but as it is now I don't know whats happening.

The troubles is that the bearings on the front passenger tire is becoming loose, and the local shop is pretty booked the rest of the week. I talked to the woman there who is a close friend to our family and she says that she *might* be able to have it done by Thursday evening.

So that's where we stand. We might not be able to make it down until Saturday, or we might be right on plan. I honestly couldn't tell any of you, as it all depends on when my car gets fixed. I will drop a post in here to let you guys know when we do plan on leaving, and when to expect us in the city. I'll also have my cell phone on me, and if nobody changed their numbers than we'll be giving a holler when we near the city.

Cheers.
