Video editing question ( no video )
Not sure if this is the right thread to ask in, but I'm trying to edit a large quicktime file in adobe premiere... it's about 10 minutes long and I'm trying to get the file small enough so that I can upload/share it with people but when I export the movie I always get really crappy file quality and a HUGE file size... anybody know optimal settings/something else i can do to decrease file size and optimize quality?

Look for a media encoder to convert your files. I work in windows media format, and Windows Media Encoder is awesome -- you can choose optimum settings based on exactly what you want. I did a quick search for Quicktime encoders but didn't really know what to look for because I hate quicktime and do'nt know how to work with it.
Hey fletcher,
I'm surprised u can actually import quicktime files into Premiere, it can be quite picky about what it imports and a lot of files like mp4 and some .mov files often don't import.
First you want to make sure you are working with the correct resolution, when you create your project, select a preset (DV - PAL or DV - NTSC depending on what kind of camera you have) or select custom preset at the top and in general make sure you have a frame size of atleast 640 x 480 for good quality, the rest of the options in this window don't really matter.
When you have finished making your movie, select file > export > movie, this will export your movie uncompressed this means that the file size will be huge (i've made a 35 min movie recenctly and the uncompressed exported file was over 8GB) and the quality should be almost as good as the footage you origionally imported.
If you do this and the file you get out is very bad quality, then there is something wrong
it may be the premiere doesn't like the quicktime file you are importing.
If you do this and you get a good quality video that is massive, then that is good, you can then import it into a decent compressor (importing your movie into windows movie maker and exporting it with that works ok) and you should have a file of under 150mb with good quality if it's 10 mins long

Cool.. thanks for the help! Having a bit of trouble getting used to premiere, and actually I just got sony vegas so maybe I'll just start learning that one. I exported that same vid with vegas and I think it is around 260 MB for 11.5 minutes, pretty close quality to what it was.
