"Wolves in Wolves Clothing" I haven't listened to all of it but what I've heard I like a lot. "Leaving jesusland" is pretty great.

You have to download bittorrent, and then i think you might have to register at demonoid.com, it's pretty easy once you have the program... then you just download the torrent file from demonoid and open it with bittorrent.

and is it ok to use bit torrent with slow dial up or should i wait till i can go on a computer with a faster connection?

yeah, bittorrent.com is fine it will give you the basic bittorrent client. I've never tried using it with dial-up but I imagine it would take a pretty long time.

Not to be directly an @$$ to Fletcher, this is more directed at people who would consider doing this an OK thing. I think it's kind of... not sure what the word is... bad... I'll say for now... talk about a band's new album, praise it, and then let everyone know where it can be acquired without paying for it.

Regardless of the implicit illegality of such actions it's just so... ugh... dishonest? If you like the band's music, don't you want to support them by buying a copy of their record and urging other people to do so? I can understand downloading an mp3 or 2 to check the band out (and usually they offer a few free mp3s), and then decide, as I do this all the time. But straight up going and downloading the whole thing and not paying for it, then listening to it and enjoying it on at least a semi-regular basis... then urging other people to do so? I'm giving my opinion here, but I think that's a real @$$hole thing to do (apologies to the kiddies out there for the use of the French language).

Sample the band or the album. If you like it, go buy it. If you can afford a computer and an internet connection to download mp3's, you can afford a $12 CD to support the musician(s). Pretty simple.

I would rather download files off of sites like Demonoid that encourage continuing to share files and help others to download files and enjoy them instead of putting any more money than I have to into unfeeling record companies and corporations in general.

12 bones? I gotta find out where you're shopping....and which reality that record store is in when your money actually goes to the musicians.

If you like the music, why are you concerned that they sold out? For me, once bands sell out I'm usually too disgusted to listen to their stuff anyway. So like the Offspring, "Ixnay on the Hombre" was the last of their discs that I ever got, because I just couldn't stand them at that point. All a matter of personal taste. I can much more understand ripping off Metallica, The Offspring or Korn rather than NOFX who despite "sellout" status are probably not rolling in dough. But yeah, I don't follow punk too closely (or at all really), so maybe since I last checked (1995 maybe) NOFX are now total ubersellouts rolling in a big pile of cash in their hollywood mansions, who knows.

For $12 CD's... Well there is a place is Boston called "Disc Diggers" where no CD is more than $9.99, it rocks. Here in Austin, we have a place called "Cheapo Discs" where nothing is more than usually $13. I'm sure every city has one of these bargain basement CD places, you just gotta look for em. #$&* those big chains like FYE, Sam Goody etc., they suck. I would think that a place like Cali would have lots of bargain basement CD places.

i cant download stuff on my computer anyway.
but as for nofx, im sure their pretty rich, fat mike does own a record company. but at least thier CDs are pretty cheap compared to others. I am gonna go pay for it soon.
Getting music off the web is no different than burning CDs from a friend or geting them from a library.
just watch out for the RIAA

I dunno, I don't think NOFX ever sold out. Yeah he owns a record company, but it's so he DOESN'T sell out. I dunno, I could be wrong but I've never thought they sold out. As for the new album, if you like NOFX you will like the new album.

He withdrew these remarks after I got him to admit he hadn't listened to the last few nofx albums and didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.

As for piracy, I think im going to start a separate thread on it. Personally I'm poor/cheap and haven't paid for a single cd in years. 200 legit cds got stolen out of my car and I said fuck it that day. However I'll still buy a band's merchandise and pay to see them live, which is where they make a lot of their money anyways.

i absolutely love nofx... but i hated the new album. and its not because "theyve sold out". i dont think they have. i just think its the same as all the other cds. i think they just havent been able to find someway to make their music sound new. theyre just doing what theyve always done. maybe its just me but i like it when bands have cds that sound nothing like the ones before. to me, thats the sign of a good band.

pretty much all NOFX CDs, along with anything ever labelled "so-cal punk" or anything like that (most stuff on Fat Wreck, mainly released in the mid 90s) sound VERY similar.

Fat Mike would be rolling in the monies, due to Fat Wreck and the amount of successful bands on their roster. That's not due to selling out though, that's due to good management of a record label.
