Back in college someone had brought in their pet Tarantula. I'd say that it was roughly 4-5 inches (10-13cm) long and hairy as hell. He let it crawl on some peoples arms and asked me if I wanted to try it. I just could not ge over my fear. I still don't think I'd be able to do it.

Haha, I just discovered this topic.
Please don't kill spiders, they are useful. They eat for example flies. Flies are disgusting - always so nice to think about the dog poo which was it's last "pit stop" before your lunch bread.
I wouldn't take a tarantula as a pet though. It wouldn't be good for it nor for me.
I usually just relocate spiders.

when ever i see a spider i INSTANTLY relocate it....and by relocate...i mean kill it, and my kill it i mean evisorate it...call me in humane but i HATE spiders with a passion even though they are good for the environment

Spiders in my house see the bottom of my size 11 foot coming down on top of them. thats only with big ones though. I saw a small one on the wall last night that I let be.
