Shredding onstage!

I am going to be doing a performance with a band, but I don't know how much to ask for. They are probably being paid shit [they're teenagers like myself] and they want me to join them doing my 'thing'

How do I go about negotiating a fair price?

For 15-20 minutes of shredding, how's $50 sound?

i would first find out how much there making. and get what is reasonable. and its pretty sweet showing people what foobag is about. if the band is good and you shred like a hero you may get some one interested in footbag. and start spreading the footbag goshel. and not to minshion the ladies will love you. i thing secretly all ladies love footbag players

they just don't see enough of them.

maybe, just do it for free, or ask if they can arrange that you can get free drinks that evening. i wouldnt ask for money.

but if you have to take money, i´d say check what they make, and then check what expenses they have and then figure out something that wont make em poor. young bands dont get that much in general. so think about the above mentioned!

i would tell them that i would do it for free...persanally..because i think it would make the persona of footbaggers look a little better

Doing it for free makes it look like your skills have no value.

Whenever anybody asks what it costs, give a broad figure "Somewhere between $200 and $5000 depending on what you need for your show, what did you have in mind ? "

It's true that doing it for free makes it look like your skills have no value. However, I think maybe that unless your name is Vasek Klouda, or Peter Irish, ASKING for anything more than free goods and services might be a little pretentious. Honestly I think you're better off asking for something alternative to money, like free drinks, or free food, free merch from the band, something like that. I think you'll make a better rep for yourself as a stand up guy if you don't milk it right off the bat.

I don't see how performing footbag is any different from performing music, and most bands that're just starting off rarely get paid for their gigs, because they're more interested in entertaining the crowd, and building a reputation, than making money. Basically what I'm saying is that your main concern should be putting on a good show, and your secondary concern is making sure everybody knows what footbag is, and where to go to find information. Your last concern, if at all, is getting paid. If you travelled far, then ask for gas money. If you didn't travel far, then don't take any money unless they're putting it in your pocket.

Yeah I would say ask for $50 for 15-20 minutes, see what they come back with. Don't take any less than, say $35.

Bullshit! Make them pay! The best way to get respect is to demand it. Sorry Skip, but I got paid 150$ the second time I ever performed footbag, and 165$ the third. This is at a middling guiltless level, and for only 4-5 minutes of shred. Why can't everyone do this? Maybe because we just assume that our talent isn't worth being paid for, because for some reason people RARELY EVEN TRY TO GET PAID!!!!

I do agree that its essential for footbag to get promoted, and that doing lots of events is neccesary, but unlike a band a shredder does not need to build up a fan base. We have a skill that people will appreciate as new and entertaining, and are willing to pay for it.

I think that is a good call, unless it's a charity event or a demo for a non-profit organisation (like a Church or a school) then I would ask for an apropriate fee, infact I doubt I would have to ask, most people will offer you money if you are performing somewhere that will make money off you being there.

Hmmm. I don't know about the rest of you... But things like this can either be really good, or really bad... I mean... if you screw up a lot... well... BAD. If the music doesn't fit well at all with your shredding... that wouldn't be good either. If you don't fuck up a lot, and the music fits the "mood" of the sport then it will go well... Either way... I can't imagine playing on stage for a band... Just seems weird to me.

However. If it's for their own profit, demand no less than $35. If it's for a charity event or non-profit organization, do it for free.

If you pull through with this... Major props. I don't know how good I am compared to you anymore, Josh... but I know damn well that I could not shred on stage for several reasons. I'd feel like an idiot, out of place, probably fuck up alot because of those feelings, and I'd feel like I'm showing off an unheard of, or awkward skill. I don't know, lol. But major props if you pull it off.
