Is this normal?
I'm finding it easier to do Fairing setting form my right side... And I can't pull Pixie set at all... Literally... Not at all. Well... I can do a pixie set mirage but... pfft, anyone can do that...
I'm thinking it might be bacause of the way my shoes are modded... I have the wings poking up a bit. When I pixie set, I think the bag hits the wing. But during my fairy setting, the bag goes off the front of my toes instead of the side, thus not hitting the wing.
If I get unmodded lavers, this should fix my problem with pixie setting right?
I don't know, it just seems like I should be doing pixie setting before doing fairy setting.
Thanks for any advice givin.
Peace,
Fred.

Hey,
the thing is that when people try to do a pixie they tend to throw their leg like a whip effect, this is going to force the bad against whatever surfaces it may come into contact with. When people fairy it usually naturally forces you to lift you foot straight up and then dex giving you a better fairy. I really think you just need to focus on bringing your leg straight up and then dexing on your pixie, get it out of the toe box before you dex. Its intuitive with fairy but not pixie.
I don't really know if this is what your doing but I tend to have the same problem if Im whipping my leg and not executing a lift to the breaking point of the dex. the leg should naturally break from the lifting motion of the pixie. Just focus on raising the delay straight up until the leg is forced to move in the pixie motion. It is a much slower and higher set than people think, go for execution not quickness, this will also lead to higher sets for phoenix and drifters etc.

That's a good way of putting. Never really thought about it, but outs are easier for me in almost all catagories of dexing.Bander87 wrote:I'm kinda the same way. Outs just seem more natural for me.
Yea, I'm guilty of doing the whipping action. Like... really bad. I can't just "lift" the bag like most people do. It's too much work for it to be comforitable. I always do toe pops from toe setting, I never lift from toe set. I... can't do it... I don't know why, don't ask me why, because I don't know. I just can't do it. I can never get the bag high enough, and if I do get it high enough, it requires too much force to do so, resulting me in not having enough time to pull anything, so the bag just kind goes up, and then down. This is a huge problem for me because I will never be able to do atomic, or decent zoid set tricks if I continue my bad habit of toe popping. Either way, I can't lift for reasons unknown.
One question while I'm here. Left clipper and then spinning to your right 1 and 1/2 times into a rake... Would this be called in-spinning rake? Just wondering.
Thanks for the help,
Fred.

You want to be able to do both pixie and fairy sets equal, at least eventually, but it's normal to develop one first, and though pixie seems more popular, naturalness for the individual should be key.
If your toe sets have good form then the toe walls shouldn't matter, though, to answer your question. The bag should always be coming straight before you begin the dex, so toe walls won't matter at all once you have them down to a science.

I can't even do it with my ankle, lol. The thigh is more natural.Erik Chan wrote:One piece of advice that I would give if you are learning fairies is to dex with your thigh, not your ankle. 80% of fairy sets I've seen are horribly thed.
I just modded my lavers again. Cut off the wings and relaced them. Havn't really found a chance to practice pixie setting with them yet. Still in school, not exactly alot of time to experiement right now. I'll check it out when I get home.

I kinda quit Footbag for the summer, and most of the first quarter of school, and I just started back up in the past few weeks. (Partially because I'm going through a depression and I need something to do, ha ha.)
But, I decided I'd come revisit this topic because... I still can't do my damn pixie setting.
I usually start out by playing just hack for 5-10 minutes (Seems to get me hyped up more for when I start doing tricks... I don't know.), and once I do that, I can usually get one or two decent pixie sets in. But that's only 1 or 2 out of a 60 minute practice... It's been this way for a while now too.
Could it just be that I am not in a physically advantaged state to be able to do pixies? Because I can pull fairies like they are nothing now. It's like just doing a simple mirage or a something simple like that.
My ankle is funked up, and I can do some pretty niffty dragon style stuff, and i'm thinking that might be a disadvantage towards pixie setting.
More advice on this, would be appreciated.
Peace.

you should practise pixie, that's the best advice.

i'm glad to hear you're using footbag to get you through a tough time. Footbag has gotten me through many of those. It shrinks your universe down to just you and the bag, and you can make all the other things, even the things that are getting you down, be quiet.
So, stay strong, and keep shredding. Hopefully, you'll be through to the other side soon.

Already there man. Problem was that me and my girlfriend were going out for a long while, and the past month has just been... well, not the best. And I felt the relationship had come to a halt. We're both young, and certain things in life, such as parental influence, college, job, financial issues, caused one of us to have to stop getting deeper into the relationship. Not going to say which one.Matt Cross wrote:i'm glad to hear you're using footbag to get you through a tough time. Footbag has gotten me through many of those. Anyway, we finally broke up, about a week and a have ago, and that made the depression even worse, thought my whole world was coming to an end. 3 days roll by, a gallon of vanilla blue bunny ice cream with strawberry mix had gone through my digestive system, and I was starting to feel better about the whole ordeal. But I still needed to come to terms with her, before I could get over it. After avoiding me as though I were a stalker for 2 weeks, she called me up and we sat down, went through the reasons behind the break up, said our true feelings for eachother, (We both still love eachother, but we're not "in-love" so to speak) and we are working towards being able to be friends now that we don't have as much pain when we're together. And we're starting to look at other people to see, and I'm feeling loads better after I pickedup a new hobby of photography.
So now, between footbag, a little bit of Halo 2, photography, work, family, and hanging out with friends, I have gotten over it, to an extent. I am an emotional bitch though whenever a sad song or movie is playing... I'm pathetic now... lol. W/e, don't care... my emotion sensitivity is really playing with with the new girl at work, Gennifer, who is cool, funny, sexy, and damn good looking.
But back to footbag... lol.
I've been practicing pixie... like, non-stop. If I were to practice anymore... I wouldn't have a life.
Oh, btw, I went to a wedding today. My 83 year old great grandpa got married, lol. And instead of dancing, I went to the middle of the dance floor and shredded some hardcore strings with my friend Cody.
