True. Although any personal information you post is fair game, more could probably be expected from a mod. Or not. Dan posted that here fully aware that anyone with an internet connection had free acess to view it. I think it's more an issue of a mod getting emotionally involved. And it's not really an issue of abuse of power, his role as a mod didn't aid him in receiving nor posting that information.

What an interesting day.

Yeah, that was probably poor wording on my part. I was more referring to his demeanor being unprofessional, and thus he was abusing the priveledge of being an admin by not behaving like one.

I think people should stop taking Dan seriously if they are offended by him.
I think modified is like school. If you dont like certain people, then you dont have to talk to them. Same here, just accept that Dan may be a dick sometimes and if you dont like him then dont try to argue with him or whatever like that...

Bring him back, he is a hillarious addition to the community. I have never met him before, but he always brings up good points, although sometimes is too forceful with them. I think people take him wayy too seriously, and its rediculous that he is banned. And even if he does threaten or insult you, who cares!? Everyone should know by now to not take him too seriously, and his ban should be lifted!

even if I choose to ignore him, a lot of people will not, and his assholery inevitably sends any thread with which he's unhappily involved into a downward spiral of flame warring and obnoxiousness. I think he's a detriment to the community. Any good parts of his personality are overshadowed by his touchy and cantankerous nature, and I'm glad he's banned.

If Sam doesn't like it, Sam can start his own forum, and Sam and Dan Feary can have a good old time saying whatever they want to each other without being oppressed.

PS: sam, if you hate mods so much, don't come crying to me next time big bad bryan fournier posts poems that you don't like in your blog. You asked me to go out of my way to delete entire posts that someone made just because they were of personal offense to you, yet you bitch and whine when edits are made to your posts because they broke rules which were not at all personal to you. LAME.

Yea, alot of people are abusive online, but are great people in real life.

When I first came here, I was a complete asshole/dumbass about everything. I admit it, and I don't care if you think lesser of me. Because just like me to all of you, I am just a guy over the internet. So your opinions on me, are just people over the internet. However. With that kind of logic, it would seem that I shouldn't care about how I act online either, meaning that I shouldn't care about being an asshole/dumbass online. Because those veiws by you, are just veiws by people that I don't know in real life.

However, this is a friendly community. Where I wish to expand my knowledge of the sport, make friends, and possibly meet some of the community in real life during a road trip or something. So, why ruin a reputation that has a chance of being a reputation that will reflect apon you in a real life encounter?

After realizing this, I decided to act more like how I really am... A really nice guy, who somewhat regretedly joined the ARNG. No, I'm not the happiest I could be right now due to joining the service. I somewhat regret it. But I'm ok with it, so it's all good. I used to make up stupid bullshit that just didn't make sense or had no relation to this site or the sport. Not anymore.

I'm sure Dan is just like this. But I guess he really could be somewhat of an asshole in real life... I don't konw, lol. But it's a possibility he's just like me.

Cept I fixed myself...... So.. yea. Untill you fix yourself Dan... SHAME ON YOU!!! Grow up and... act more mature... and... Such and the like and tacos.

I'm so going to the Taco King today... Josh... You will have to come down to Albert Lea some time, and eat some tacos... at the Taco King... Good shtuff. Sometime this summer maybe.

I wasn't commenting on modified being a school in terms of structure. I meant it is like a school in terms of how you deal with people who you don't like or have something against.

Seriously - in school, probably 90% of rules broken are never seen by the teacher, ie, hazing, bullying, stealing - these are never reported out of fear. What he's saying is that you can ignore people you don't like and you're not forced to interact with them. I think Dan is cool, and I see that many of you see his provocativeness and immediately label him as an "asshole," which I find quite sad since it is so fun to discuss with these types of personalities.

It's kinda like biology really.

If someone is harmfull to someone else, even if it's fun, it's still not allowed.

Example.
Punnet squares.

Say you have a group of people offended by certain aspects of a conversation. And you have a certain group of people that find these conversations to be entertaining and fun.

AA and Aa = The group that find it fun.
aa = The group that's offended.

So in order for the aa group to be treated fairly, no Aa or AA conversations can be exposed to them. So, if you have an AA conversation going on, and aa people come in, it works out like this.

Bad converstation gene is donimant. Aa groups may be ok with aa, and Aa conversations. But Aa groups are not ok with AA conversations. AA groups are ok with all conversations. And aa groups are only ok with aa conversations.

In order to have everyone treated fairly, you have to have conversations that consist of only aa.

This doesn't mean AA's can't talk, lol, god no. It simply means they can't bring their AA conversations into areas that it shouldn't be in.

aa's usually can mix with Aa's in conversations, it's just kinda uncomforatble for them I'm assuming.

Half the time, aa people might get annoyed, half the time, they will be just fine.

This is just basically how I saw it, lol.

Your conversations may be fun, TO YOU. But to others, it's a disturbance of the peace, and orderly. And you can't be allowed to have fun, at other's expense.

For those who are concerned with certain posters, maybe my method if ignorace could be beneficial.

Read posts, but when they get out of hand or offensive, stop reading them and move on. If the subject that offends you continues on through other posts in the same thread, stop reading the thread

I find this method greatly lowers your annoyance factor with modified and certain posters, saves lots of negative communication and arguments, and allows you to focus on the positive much more than the negative, and really when it comes down to it, shouldn't we all be doing that anyways?

This method also pertains to moderator actions, just remember this forum is about footbag primarily, dont get so up in arms about a discussion section, emotions flare and there are arguments, that's just the nature of a section focused on debates. If that kind of interaction evokes negative feelings, then try to focus on the rest of the forum that consists primarily of discussion about FOOTBAG (the real reason we log onto this forum in the first place).

And if all else fails, chill the fuck out and just relax.

In the good old days of newsgroups you could just plonk someone, bam, in the killfilter and never have to see their posts again if you didn't want to.

Yea.. Like I could, right now say that Surge is dead already, and you can't save it. And that the drink sucked and your banner should be taken down.

That could start up a small argument, and if it's in the discussion section, or another place that's not about footbag specifically... Let it slide, to an extent of course. If it gets bad tehn step in... But honestly. Some moderations I've seen are kinda.. well... Over the top power trippin...

And I'm somewhat serious about surge... Was a bad drink, is already dead, can't be saved. But more power to your efforts.
