Should SPLINT be allowed to be a MOD?
You're wrong. Jim was banned by you a long time after you became an admin. He was banned for being insulting and using discriminatory langauge (aimed at me). There are probably topics about it in the mod forum - along with a humourous exchange of pms between me and him. To my knowledge he's never been unbanned since those events.Splint wrote:Jim Jansen is not still banned. I let him back on a lllloooooonnnngggggg time ago. Shortly after Rob left the forum and I became an admin, I think. He posted for a little while here and their, but hasn't been on in quite a while.Jeremy wrote:Is Jim Jansen still banned? Admittadly that was mainly my doing and it felt like there was probably no choice but I don't know if it is accurate to say that banning isn't permanent.

That's a fairly ignorant question. I stand by the fact that (when not being abusive toward another member), everyone has the right to speak their mind.
I think Sam has a right to question Splint's moderator status. However, he has not done himself any favors in the way he has done so.
Remember that this whole issue has brought up the subject of the moderation of these foums and that is a worthy issue for discussion, given the size of the memberlist. It's giving us all an opportunity to voice our opinions on how Modified gets run.
I do think this could have been done differently, but what's done is done. Now we've just gotta keep moving foreward and work thorough it to make Modified a better forum.

I'm unconvinced anything is being "worked through". All this is nothing more than an excuse for the usual gripes to be aired, and now that everyone is simmering down, this thread and all the others like it will begin their decline down the boards and nothing will have changed, and nothing will have been achieved. I don't think its such a bad thing anyway because for the most part the boards run OK, there's only a few little things that could actually be done to improve the boards - for the most part the boards are a reflection of the collection of people that use them, as such the divisions amongst us will now and again bubble up to the surface - life however goes on.

Exactly!
As it stands there is no accountabilty for Mods, this said there shouldn't be a high level of accountability, but there should be a bare minimum. Regardless of the specifics of this particular case, what has become clear is that mods are only accountable to themselves short of the rest of us all going and using another web-space. As i said in one of the other thread - at the very least there should be detailed guidlines regarding moderation. I don't think we really need any sort of strict protocol in place for the selection of mods or for kicking them out. If the users knew the limits of moderation then at least they could apply serious and specific pressure on the mods to make sure that they stay within the bounds of their authority and take appropriate action if this doesn't occur - ie the mods can mod themselves if we have the tools to apply more specific pressure, instead of diluted, digressive threads in which there are a vast array of valid and invalid concerns.
But like i said I don't think it will actually happen.

Maybe we're not still waiting for .ca to expire...You ever think of that man? Maybe they took us here, to .in, where they have more Power! And there's nothing we can do about it! Cuz they've got us right where they want us...Shh...I think they're listening. I have to go now.

It turned out that the 45-day thing wasn't really 45 days. Some jerks at pool.com wait for domains to expire and the second they are free, they buy them up.shredzilla wrote:Maybe we're not still waiting for .ca to expire...You ever think of that man?
So, the chances of .ca coming back are looking less and less now.
I will go through and change all of the links on the board to not be dependent on the domain name.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Aww man. That's so wack. Well, those banners I made were mostly jokes in anticipation that we'd one day go back to .ca. So like, feel free to take down any silly ones though I think the hackysack.out one with Jorden in it is pretty sick. The rest are just silly joking ones. The yoda one is kinda cool I guess. Oh yeah and the Blough one is good because he's a domain-hogging sloth.
I know this is a weak consolation, but www.modifiedfootbag.com is available as is www.usmodified.com. Oh well I guess .ca is no more...

Sorry to bring up an old topic - which by the way hasn't in any way been resolved as was promised - ie. with some set posting rules, and some expectations on moderators.
But I'm curious to know why the following topics were locked:
http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=13231
http://www.modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=13342
I was enjoying the first topic and there was definitely some continued discussion on that topic going on. I don't know what Chris Miller's problem is but certainly I can see nothing in that topic to see why it would be locked.
I can see that Erik Chan locked the second topic because it was "This is all really off topic, unnecessary, and inappropriate" - Why is a topic not sticking to the original topic a problem? If I'm having a conversation with somebody in real life and we move away fro the original topic of conversation do I have to stop talking to them? The reason I keep posting on modified is the community - not the idea that every single topic should be helpful to making me a better footbagger. Yes I agree the topic is "unnecessary" - how many topics on this forum are "necessary" - is this forum "necessary"? Why don't you lock all the topics that are "unnecessary". What part of that topic is inappropriate? The usage of the word "nigs"? Couldn't that have been just edited out? Or was it the bickering? Are we not allowed to disagree with anything people say on the forum any more or the topic will be locked?
