Should POT/WEED Media and Avatars be Outlawed?

Well i wanted to make this poll because some cool shred videos,avatars, and topics aren't welcomed at this site.EX: About a month ago or so i had a pimp ass bud plant as my avatar and it got removed. Is it really so offensive to show a beautiful plant? Do people really get that sick when they see it? I know that there are a couple Jams out there full of dedicated pot smokers such as this thread. The video has been recently removed causing no more use for the thread.

Long-time members of the footbag community have been trying to shed the stereotype that is associated with many hackysackers of being extreme potheads. Since it's inception, footbag players have tried very hard to establish footbag as a serioius sport. When a lot of people think of hackysackers they think of lazy, pot-smoking hippies. I think the stereotype is finally starting to melt, but it still lingers...

Apart from that, it's an illegal substance. And advocating illegal activities on an all-ages forum about footbag kinda gives footbag a bad rep. That's actually my own opinion, I don't mean to state it as fact. There may be other reasons the forum staffers choose to omit drug reference, but that's my take. I'm cool with it. If I want to talk about drugs, I'll go to the www.drugsarecool.in forum or something.

considering they're completely legal in society - at least in Australia - I think they should be allowed at modified. People who don't like them should express their opinions rather than attempt to force their views on other people.

No, drugs aren't legal there, although there is some sort of tolerance in certain states regarding "soft" drugs I beleive. I think what Jeremy meant was that drug paraphernalia and depictions on tshirts etc. (or say, an avatar) are legal.

Modified.in has a lot of underage users, they should not see pot smoking in videos at least!

Windsor quit because of shirtless men having fun with a hacky sack - I wouldn't be surprised if someone quit because pro footbaggers are involving weed in everything they do.

Like Chris said - this IS a footbag forum. You don't have to have joints in your avatars and show smoking in videos. If you like footbag just beacuse some of the players are eager to party and smoke, then you've missed the whole point of the sport. YES - SPORT!

The options on this poll only give the extremes. Just because I don't want people to have it in there avatars doesn't mean I think it's bad. I think it's a personal choice for people, but kids are not mature enough to make that choice for themselves, and there are a lot of kids on these forums.

You all need to realize that although you want to get rid of this "hippie" image that footbag has, it is part of the reason why this sport is growing.

Honestly, I feel like avatars and signatures are more of a bandwidth issue than a socially-acceptable issue. Remember, avatars and signatures are a PRIVILEGE on this forum, not a right.

With that said, I don't feel like I have a problem with drug-related avatars on modified.

I think all this hype around it is the biggest problem. I'd like to see a less edited forum rather than seeing more trivial rules being implimented.

It's like a battle for stereotyping footbag, everyone is concerned about smashing the hacky sack circle kicking pot smoker stereotype yet we play a game that is miles away from circle kicking, is much more physically exerting, and impresses the majority of viewers, let the new freestyle footbag spin on "hacky sack" make the stereotypes and stop trying to manufacture them.

I tried to say this in the other thread. Stop worrying about what the steriotypes are and just shred. The sport is going to grow when people start to see it, and whether or not weed leaf's are allowed is so trivial. Modified loves to think it's more important than it really is. Their should be editting of the most minute kind, because really, in the scope of footbag, modified will play a very small role in whether it gets big or not down the road. Modified's goal isn't to promote the sport of Footbag (Even though it is an added benefit assuming you want the sport to grow) but to give a place for people who share a common pasttime to talk and chill.

When people start realizing how trivial modified is in every aspect, the forum will get better.

No one cares that you smoke pot.
people who feel like they need to advertise to the rest of the world that they smoke, just do it cause they think it makes them look cool.

Here is a perfectly good example of why the avatars should not be allowed. I'm sitting here reading this thread and my 3 year old daughter is sitting on my lap. This is a pretty adult topic and, but she can't read it so no biggy. On the other hand she's 3 and well aware of who "Hello Kitty" is (one of her favorites) and there's a big old "Mello Kitty" smoking dope right on the page. That's fucked up.

I deleted the avatar, but left the picture since it's only in the discussion thread

Basically, what needs to be decided before anything can get resolved around here, is if this is a place where footbagger's can come together to chill and talk and hang out where the promotion of the sport is an added benefit; or if this is a place designed to promote footbag and talking about other stuff is just an added benefit of the promotion part.

If the latter is true, then you might as well do away with the bottom three sub-forums. I do think most modified users want the former though, in which case marijuana and what not should be allowed on the forum.

IMHO, modified's purpose needs to be clearly lade out before anything'll get done.

While some people do this, a lot of others do it because it's such a big part of their life; just like people who post pics of footbags. They don't post them to be cool (well maybe some) but rather to show people that they really like it.

Yeah I agree about this! Modified should create a charter. Back in the USENET days I saw quite a few good groups go to crap and become troll wastelands because they didn't have a charter or any hard and fast guidelines. And kill filters, I still want those too.

I wasn't around for it but I did hear that the flipsider forums collapsed because of arguing and flame wars. I'd hate to see somethnig like that happen here. This is too good to spoil, and when it comes down to it, the disagreements are never that big, people just get way too fired up and bent out of shape about stuff.
