What Does Joplick Stand For?

Post by joplick »

aloha fellow shredders, i have now decided to go with the flow (for many reasons) so now i can bore you with my stories and progress. but first, a little background about my game.

ive been playing 7-8 months, recently quit smoking for the nth time (but this time im really gonna do it) and havent been progressing really fast until recently. i play with a sandman and am really starting to reap the benefits of playing for such a mediocre amount of time.

tuesday 9/28 at around 10pm

this session was solely concentrated on anything torque related and anything spinning related.

i tried flux(clip>op out>spin>op clip) who knows how many times, and have yet to land it. its kinda frustrating. now my knee is all scraped up cause of the 'occasional shoe hitting knee from outside dex thing'. so then i just hit a few regular torques on bothsides (especially my flipside, cause i love being flipsided).

after that i tried surging sets (my new baby) and i almost hit one on either side. although i felt like a failure again and was very, very, very dizzy (i couldnt stand up straight for the rest of the night) i decided two things...

1. surging sets are probably bitches to learn, and i almost had a few.
2. my spinning sets must be ungodly good by now from all that accelerated spinning.

after my many adventures from surging set failures i tried to calm my jumbled mind down. so i just played around and would do 'strongside spin set>hand catch' then 'weakside spin set>hand catch' every time i would do that, i would try to spin slower, but my body wouldnt let me. and every time i would do that i would almost fall over or almost hit my head on a wall. i seriously felt kinda like i was drunk. (which reminds me...)

after about 20 spin>hand catches on each side i tried a strongside mobius (weak spin plus strong torque) and i wouldve had it too except for one thing... 3 out of the 3 tries that i attempted i would fall over after bringing my dexing leg off of the ground. oh well... today i will get that elusive mobius and that elusive flux. and maybe i will even try something off the wall like spin duck osis or something or porque.

i deduced a few things from lasty nights session...
1. i played about an hour (i had to stop cause of the dizzy state) which is 4X as long as normal, so my lungs are behaving properly again.
2. my spinning sets feel a LOT better than before.
3. flux's look cool, and i will probably never hit a flipside one. (my dad thought that flux was one of the coolest tricks he has had the pleasure to witness)
4. i will probably cry with joy when i hit bigwalk or something similar.

P.S. to anyone that reads this: please give feedback, remarks, criticism, challenges, thoughts, etc. i wont mind. i promise

went to the park on the 2nd of october and youll never guess what i practiced! spinning, spinning, and more spinnning. oh and then i drilled torques hardcore and gave a few very promising attempts at mobius. then i tried rev swirl a few times on strongside. its so hard cause my muscles automatically like doing the swirling motion cause i practiced it so much. i gave a few attempts at a surging set and failed again, but i know im improving. and now i have some tips for the surging set from myself and my experiences.

-to make spinning faster have your support foot in a frigidosis position and the rest of your body in a normal clipper position (this step isnt necessary, i just use it to practice)
-as soon as you set the bag turn your head around in the direction your spinning and look at your foot or your bag.
-let your body follow your head and your shoulders then whip your leg out and let it follow your body.
-hopefully if the set is high enough then it will go through your leg

those are my tips to myself. also i am wondering if i should get a better bag to try the set with. one that doesnt need so much effort to actually set. i play with a 4-panel sandbag and am thinking of maybe getting an abshire or ab mini?
anyways... my strongside torques are really coming along, but i still cant link them. i also tried some barrages cause i think they are fun.
i didnt really have any runs worth mentioning cause i was drilling so ill end this blog now. have a nice day and a pleasant tomorrow and the best of luck to anyone that reads my miserable attempt at 'blogging' (teehee)

p.s. i finally learned what lmmfao means  ohh... and before i forget, i also practiced fluxs some more. still dont have them but i realized something. practicing a move like flux, really forces your ankles to be flexible (no pun intended (wtf)).

had a session last night and worked on blenders a bit, and spinning alot. i read a post about some clipper drills and i tried those. whoever wrote them thanks. the highlights.
-strong paradox torque 1st try (of the night)
-strong reverse swirl 1st try (of the night)
-osis>swirl
-cip>flapper>legover
-spin clip bsos
-duck clip bsos
-duck mirage bsos
and i am getting really close to strongside flux and the surging set!

mmm... ive been dicking around a little. but havent had a decent sesh for a bit. today i will sesh after i go job hunting and i am going to work on strongside barraging sets and flipside stepping sets. perhaps i will try rip>rip. i really want to hit swirl in or out of (preferably out of) a torque. i need to practice whirls and paradons a LOT. i might also try ducking paradox torque, or marius or something. oh that reminds me... i hit MOBIUS!!! i almost have a surging set, but its not there yet. my goal today is to hit janiwalker and flip mobius.

till next time.

Well I shredded with my loverly brother a few days ago and I was suprised as to what I hit being as it's been 2 years since I last kicked anything.

BSOS:
butterfly
pdx mirage > butterfly
datw
smear (pixie mirage)
symp. mirage

Random other things:
Swirl (strongside)
uh 9ish contact guiltless?
and I footed a few forgettable awesome moves

Frustrations:
Spinning set turned to shit
Ducking turned to shit
My lovely torque flew just out of my reach
...so did my flipside swirl
...and my dimwalks and illusion thingies

Today was one of those crappy sessions. I couldn't even string toe delays...So I just hit random things I could already hit and gave up on trying to string anything though I did get this which was kinda nice.
mirage > legover > mirage > legover
datw out-in > datw in-out > opp toe delay > datw out-in > footed datw in-out

3 days ago I played in the park with my brother. I had a good session which I'll tell myself about in a moment, but first the sour news. I hurt my right calf muscle by poking it with a corner at UPS. So I will be UNABLE to shred for the next little while. On to the good news.
-hit at least 2 runs with 8+ contacts guiltless.
-schooled butterfly a bit more
-hit a few paradox ducking mirages and a few spinning clippers.
-realized what moves i need to practice to achieve hitting the move Whirl.
END
