It's happened again! I always find myself not voting on polls because the poll makers always overdescribe their options. Like if I were to vote yes on something I wouldnt because the yes option would be something like "yes absolutely hands down no shadow of a doubt" rather than just yes. I think for more accurate polling of the community the options should be more like this example:
Are you male?
yes
no
rather than
Are you male?
yes, males are the best
No, males suck and I like cake
Truth?
(ps stats are cool)

Yeah you can significantly change the results of a poll by the question you ask. For example when I did my work experience for the Australian Bureau of Statistics I compared results between the ABS and another government organisation that ran similar surveys and found that the results were not statistically similar (allowing for .5 standard deviation I think).
For example if you ask the question "are you cattle farmer" - many farmers who have cattle on their farm will answer no because they don't think of themselves as a cattle farmer - they think of themselves as a wheat farmer (and the cattle is just a side project). Instead you should ask "do you have any cattle on your property" - because it's unlikely that you really care what kind of farmer they think of themselves as, but rather what they actually do.
I think having specific options is ok so long as you give enough room to cover all concievable options.
For example:
Are You Male?
Yes, males are the best.
Yes but I don't want to be.
Yes, males are neither good nor bad.
No, males suck and I like cake.
No, but I want to be.
No, males are neither good nor bad.
Other - please post.
Funny option.

wow, people will find a way to complain about anything. You act as if the polls on here are ACTUALLY serious most of the time, which in my experience, most are not
.
I know you might be referring to my poll about modded shoes. Don't vote if you feel like the options don't represent your "true" opinion, but to whine about it and start a thread about something so insignificant, sorry, very lame. I'm laughing over here about it though
Modified is gay .... sometimes
