extra, little steps
extra, little steps
i've noticed that, in my runs, i always do small, extra steps or plantings. should i get out of this habit? will they affect my game in the long run?

The best time I've seen extra steps added into a string was when Ken Somolinos tapped his feet on the ground repeatedly whenever he did ripwalks and other multi-dexy moves.

IT is not a bad thing at all no matter what those other jerks say that tell you to stop. There are always more than one way to do a trick. FOr example on the pdx mirage you can do it muted, which looks the coolest i think, or you can do it What i like to call "shuffle style". It is good to have both ways down on all of your tricks so you can always mix it up and have a little more style. Just make sure you learn all tricks both ways if possible. Just dont ever tap during ripwalks please!

I think that my favorite example of this is when Noah Jay-Bonn (a shredder here in P-town) would actually plant before a same side swirl. It made the move look cooler because of the extra step. I also found that I plant sometimes after ducks and sometimes I do it like a drifter w/o the dex... same with spinning clipper, I can do them like vortex w/o the drifter or a spinning plant clipper. It's fun to experiment!
totally crazy... I would get scared if you did that to me Nate.shreddaily wrote: staring people in the eyes while you are ducking...

Nate, that would be an epic move to do if you did that mid-string! Staring at a person while/after you're ducking/diving is so intimidating.

No I disagree heavily. Tom's point is vary relivant and answers the original question acuratly. HAVING to take little steps in your run is a weakness...blurryben wrote:IT is not a bad thing at all no matter what those other jerks say that tell you to stop.

I disagree - I think putting in extra plants is less efficent - meaning you're expending more energy on the moves than you need to. It's also slower - meaning you have to move faster later on - again meaning you're using more energy and also making the move harder for you than it actually is. The advantage is one of balance - if you plant more you have both feet on the ground more so you balance better - however if you want to advance your game more you'll need to be able to hit moves without extra plants - doing too many plants on moves will definitely make harder versions of those moves even harder. For example if you put an extra plant on your infinities then barfly will be considerably harder in my opinionblurryben wrote:IT is not a bad thing at all no matter what those other jerks say that tell you to stop.
