And just because you didn't or don't ever actually tell the homeless people off or tell them to go get a job, doesn't mean that you don't want to (QUADRIPULE NEGATIVE!). I would argue that you do want to, and you're flimsy morales on the issue are what's holding you back. You aren't afraid to think impolite thoughts, but you are afraid to act on them.
Are they homeless? You changed my word. I'm talking about the beggars who go out to beg, because it's easier than going out and finding a job or whatever. It kind of makes me angry how they are cheating everyone else off who work for their life. So yes, maybe the thoughts cross my mind to tell them off, but I don't have any flimsy morales holding me back. I'm not really the person to tell people off unless they really, really made me angry for some reason. I don't know. That's why I brought this up. I was wondering what other people thought on the situation. Maybe someone could help me understand something I don't see. But as for now, this is how I feel.

we have mad regulars here in spokane, but I have noticed a HUGE rise and expansion across the spokane valley lately.
One regular is called the bag lady. She wears sun glasses, beanie, 3 coats with a backpack underneath (really lamo looking
turtle-ish) She sits there on the same intersection everyday, ever since I could remember. She talks to herself, she is crazy. My friends and I have bummed from her on several occasions, that's classy! and what does that tell you ....
My favorite bum is a vietnam vet who has 1 leg and is in a wheelchair. His name is Hoppy. He is really friendly and rarely has to "beg" he just chills and waves at people. He usually has a fifth under his belt and sometimes he asks for weed. He really is a lovable guy.
I guess I'm weird, but I believe that these people are like a organized union. They work just like everyone else does. They are expanding and I have seen them switch shifts and work together. Props to the bums for asking for money and stupid people giving it to them!

Getting slightly off topic, but hey, what are threads for? Something like 1 out of every 3 homless people have served in the military. That is pretty sad.
My mom used to help out some homeless people and took the time to get to know them. She says some people actually like being homeless, as its their way of life and what they have been used to for so long.

I agree, people will do only what they know best. I believe people who actually get angry by seeing a homeless person need to check themselves up in lala land. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, financially or mentally. For some people, begging works and it DOES work!
It's a job like anything else. A job that I personally find just as mentally challenging as the next job. In the sense that you more than likely ARE broke (at least when you start
) with that comes depression and to put your face out there on the street saying "Look, I'm fucking depressed, no place to live, I'm very lonely and I need help"
Think about doing that yourself, I couldn't do it ...

It's a good point. The people ragging on homeless people who beg for money are the same people who desperately want the word gay to be banned on modified. They're just hypocrits. They're perfectly willing to use deragatory terms towards the needy and weed smokers, but if anyone dare says gay they go off.Getting slightly off topic, but hey, what are threads for? I'll pray for you if your a sinful person, but if you're a hypocrit, I'm gonna call you on it.

Well, they're homeless. Who needs drugs and alcohol more than them? If I gave a homeless guy my money I hope he's putting it to good use like a can of steel reserve. But I don't give homeless people money because I'm cheap.I realize that a lot are faking and some just want cheap vodka or crack,
A lot of homeless people are schizophrenic also... people you see pushing shopping carts and shit. It would suck to lose your mind.

When I worked at a sign company, Me and John would drive all around the seedier parts of Phoenix doing installations and picking up materials.
He had 2 kids , and would fume whenever we saw those beggars on the exit/entrance lanes.
" Fuck those guys", he would say," I work all day ,and have a side business to support my family, and these guys are getting $5 dollar bills... and i even saw a lady hand out a $50 one time."
he said he saw a news report where X out 10 beggars they tailed, got into a nice car parked a few blocks away, and drove to their houses in Scottsdale.
We always thought about grabbing one of those grifters ( our work truck was a 79' blue chevy van), and shaking them down.
If they were really broke, then we'd just let them go.
BUT if they had a bill roll of cash, and some Cadillac keys, then we would have taken the cash, and left him with a black eye , on the side of the road.
We never did that, but grifters deserve to get cracked on the head, and ripped off sometimes.
------------------------------------------------------
We shouldn't mix up unfortunate homeless people, with drunk, obnoxious beggars.
Compassion for deserving people shouldn't be wasted on fuckheads who make doing business in some parts of town unbearable.
I wonder if beggars get thrashed around town sometimes, because beggars here tend to be a lot less aggressive, than in other towns.
Notice how some people avoid eye contact with bums?, because if you do make eye contact, it sets off a tractor beam inside the bum, and they rush over.
note:
I'll give a future update on the brewing showdown with the drunk Indians at the Disc golf course.

If you're so fucking jealous of beggars and they're making more meney than you, why don't you go out there and do it? Don't give me any bullshit about your self-respect either. You're the type of guy considering stripping down a homeless person. When I worked at a sign company, Me and John would drive all around the seedier parts of Phoenix doing installations and picking up materials.

And why do you feel the need to pull a jack move on a beggar, anyways? Why not on a rich guy in a business suit? What is it about the beggar that pisses you off so much? You're a pussy, dude, and you don't like the fact that and idiot is doing nothing and getting paid for it well. Those are my people. My people are the people with 3 made up children on their tax returns and a couple hundred dollars in the coke game. Stop being such a girl HDS. Let them get their hustle on. How does it bother you? You feel bitter because someone's getting paid and your not?

I may have posted this in another thread before. Interesting stories on 3 bums in my college neighborhood
Snipes This guy never actually talked or interacted with anyone. He had about a 7-block strip of Walnut St that he would travel up and down pulling half eaten food out of trash cans and picking up half-smoked cigarettes off the street. He never actually begged anyone for money (or talked to anyone) but people would give him stuff, especially cigarettes (because he loved them so much). He would collect the half-smoked cigarettes aka "snipes" in the breast pocket of his shirt. Once the pocket was full he would go to this special spot by the library, count out all the jacked up cigarettes and then smoke ALL of them. It was absolutely disgusting but he always looked like he was having a blast.
Handy Andy This guy prided himself on his drawing talents. He would draw a caricature of you on a dirty piece of cardboard and try to sell it to you for $10. At least he was doing something other than looking pathetic! The pictues were really good but the fact that they were on dirty cardboard made them less appealing, people rarely bought them except when they were drunk.
Otis, the rapping bum This guy would try to rap to you for money. He would claim that he would "throw down some freestyle" rhymes for $5, but it was always the same stuff. "I met this *$%# named __, I kicked him the gutter I went to his house and I *$%#ed his mother", etc. Cool concept, but the guy didn't have any originality, it was always the same crap.

Take a fucking pill. Did you even read my post?
I quote John complaining about wealthy fuckheads who stand on the highway exits all day, making the working people feel guilty, and you tear into me.
Since I was quoting John ( who would undoubtibly kick your ass, if he were to chose it.), I will forgive you (and not tell John, lol) that you called him a pussy.
And he has a right to pissed off, working so hard, and being guilted, up close an personel, a bunch of times, on every delivery or installation.
I don't have a problem with many other types of grifting, that aren't in-your-face all the time.

Perhaps you are hell bent on turning my specific grifter problem, into an attack on the all the grifters you love.
"Your people"............ that was funny, like you have a special bond with every deadbeat hussler, who makes a buck.
Besides, It wouldn't be a "jack move" to do a quick patdown for a huge roll of cash, when a grifter gets aggressive.
They stand out there and try to make everybody feel guilty for not being a sucker who pays them.
.
I feel sorry for the people just scraping by, who actually give money to those bums.

wow, I'm a little surprised by the attitudes demonstrated.
I always give money to people who ask for it if I have any. I don't care what they're going to spend it on. The fact is that my standard of living is significantly higher than theirs and I can definitely afford to give away $2 or so occasionally. I feel that most likely the reason they're in the position they are in is because they've grown up in a disfunctional or with no family environment, they're fairly uneducated and they don't know how to get themselves out of the position they're in. As I see it there are two reasons for the way people turn out - environmental reasons and genetic reasons. Either way the reason they are impoverished are ultimately outside of their control. Yes it's definitely possible in countries like Australia and the US for them to get out of that hole but I think that's a lot harder than it sounds. Had I been born into the same situation that they were, it's entirely possible that I'd be the one asking for money.
I don't believe that beggers in Australia make anything near $100 a day, and certainly I think it would be very hard work.
I also believe that our governments have a responsibility to help these people and unfortuantly in Australia there is a small amount of people who fall through the cracks (for lots of reasons).
I don't believe giving these people money will achieve anything meaningful and I don't believe it's my responsibilty to do that (I believe that's what the government representing these people - and everybody else - should do) but it makes me feel a good about myself and it makes them happy and that's a better result for my money than say spending it on a beer or a redbull or whatever else I would have spent that money on.

Guilt is an emotion he feels, not one that a beggar magically transfered to him. If he feels guilty about not giving a beggar money, then he most definitely is a pussy. And he has a right to pissed off, working so hard, and being guilted, up close an personel, a bunch of times, on every delivery or installation.

John does not actually feel guilty.
I was using "guilted" to mean.. "when somebody else tries to make you feel guilty"
And I dont know where this "stripping down" is coming from.
I certainly would not want to " strip down" somebody on the median, imagine the smell!!
And it's all academic now, I don't work with John anymore, and dont have to drive around all the crappy parts of Phoenix, all summer, but I do see the highway beggars in Chandler and Tempe.
Strange, tho, I dont feel anything negative for these guys now. Maybe because I dont work so hard in the summer now.

Exactly, and the only reason someone would feel effected in any why by this is if it worked, which it clearly did judging from you two idiots reactions.I was using "guilted" to mean.. "when somebody else tries to make you feel guilty"
John is weak product of society, who can't come to terms with himself and what he's supposed to be doing. We're all there. Don't worry about it.

"Pennies, Quarters, Dimes, Nickels." said the bum. See, this is where I get a chance to practice my stand-up AND make him feel stupid.
"Good work, that's all American currency. Now that you know what it is, why don't you go out and MAKE some of it?"
Bum: Grimace
Next bum:
"Can you help me out?"
"Sure! There's a newspaper over there, they have tons of jobs that pay way more than the change you're scrounging for."
Next:
"Sir, can you help me get something to eat?"
"Dude, you're 45 years old!! It's time to grow up, and why would you call me sir if you're like middle-aged and I'm obviously not. Shouldn't I be calling you that?"
That's the key to winning the power struggle with these guys though. Otherwisethey steal a bit of energy. The other way is to just ignore them, but I find this way to be more entertaining, and you get to steal a bit of THEIR energy.
