Nike Sponsorship/Demo

Post by sidekick »

On thursday, August 10th, I'm going to go to Nike headquarters for some serious shred. I'm going to make a big sign that says "Footbag: It's all in the shoes" and bring that sign, hopefully the rest of the protland crew, and do a demo ON the Nike world headquarters campus in Beaverton, where I live.

I want everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who reads this to send an e-mail to Nike on that day, August 10th to http://www.nike.com/nikebiz/nikebiz.jht ... orld#world, it's the first link that says "E-mail Us", click that.

In the e-mail, I'd like you to put down:
1) you name, and where you live
2) what kind of shoes you wear
3) how many shoes you go through in a year
4) how long you've been playing
5) and how many times a week you play
(make sure you include that you play FOOTBAG, not hacky-sack, and state if you would buy a shoe made specifically for footbag)

I'm going to be handing out flyers and our team business card, wearing the team jersy, and giving out information. Hopefully I can get some media coverage as well. Thanks in advance for all the help guys.

Nice! I blogged it on the Flipsider.com front page. Good luck!

Edit: why is this in the Shred Symposium forum?? I almost never look in here. It should go in General Footbag, no? AND make the Topic Title clear and descriptive. 9 times out of 10 I will not read vague "I need help" topics; I'm sure I'm not the only one. Just offering my advice to help your post get noticed by the most people. Not everyone trolls modified.

Nick, I know I sent you a PM with lots of advice, but another idea would be to shoot it and make a commercial in the vein of the "Truth" (anti-smoking) campaign. That would be sweet. I don't know how far Beaverton is from Portland, but Ethan knows a thing or two about making videos. If you do it, just be sure to get lots of different angles and shot sizes (ELS, VLS, LS, MLS, MS, MCU, CU- look it up if you don't know).

Wait wait wait! This is bad timing!!

I am on the cusp of getting to actually make us a first footbag shoe pleeeease don't go and get Nike to come and totally rape our community like they do to everything else!

I have been working VERY hard for the community to make this project happen and it would kill me to see Nike jump in and barf out some piece of crap.

I applaud your passion and desire to get big things to happen but I feel that this isn't the best place to be applying that drive.

I just completed a 50 page report for Duncan Toys that I am mailing tonight that represents the culmination of all my efforts thus far on the footbag shoe project which I have been at for over a year now.

I am not trying to discourage you at all, I just really don't want something Ive worked so hard on to get ruined.

Why cant we get both parties to make their shoe, and we'll use whatever is better (probbably tom's, because HE is designing it, not some shmuck at nike)

No, that approach doesn't work at all, a company can't just go and pump out a shoe without knowing anything about what our needs are.

There's alot more involved than you think I bet.

 no company would do this, especially not a giant like Nike. Please, footbag is not even a blip on their radar, nor are the numbers of players in footbag worthy of their immediate investment; think long-term. If Nick garners even a glance from a single Nike executive, which is already unlikely, it will be a success. Think of it as a friendly reminder, but a little "in your face"; it's not like they've never heard of footbag, if anyone remembers 2001. Personally I just support Nick because he is actually doing something. A quick email to Nike is the least I can do to help his efforts.

Tom, keep doing what you're doing, and let us know how it goes. But butt out when other people want to take initiative; it's rare enough without people discouraging them. I don't know how my "tone" will be interpreted here, so just trust that I'm trying to be as nice as possible, and respect what you're doing, too.

Peace,

As long as you give a reminder post in here the day before or the day of, I'll e-mail them. :-) Good initiative.

Hey, doesn't Nike already make some sort of footbag? Or they did at one point I think.

Keep being motivated Nick, don't let me discourage you. :)

The fact that we all wear Addidas shoes might spark Nike's interest. In theory wouldn't they want to steal and bussiness they can from their major competitor?

As long as I remember, I"ll email.

Yo I tried playing once with a nike 32 panel sandbag. Some dude paid like 25 bucks for it.

It was terrible.

That's a good point about sparking their interest because we play with Adidas. I'm don't know anything about a company like Nike but I'm guessing, if they care, they will want to grab a hold of it. Also like blitz said, even if one person with some sort of high position and an open mind sees it, it's a success. Cause if that same person sees it again somewhere else he'll say "oh...footbag...hmm $$$$$" I could happen!

Yeah good luck with this - good to see somebody taking some action - also same goes to Tom, but I don't like the idea of not doing something because of another project - I am sure that this action won't effect Tom's efforts - If nike to produce a footbag shoe and it's crap footbaggers won't use it. If they produce a footbag shoe and it's good - well it's a shame you've put in effort for nothing but the benifit to footbag is still good.
