yeah, i know what surging is, but i was asking if theres a difference between Frigid Pixie and Osis>Surge. they seem pretty similar

Matt, yes, there is a difference between the two. For a frigid pixie (or whatever it's actually called) to be executed correctly you need to not spin during the stall. To execute osis>surging you need to osis (a move that requires a spin) and then spin the other direction to complete the surging. Similar concepts that, if you have super flat clippers, would be easy to slur between. Lauri, to clean a surging set you don't need to set the bag before the spin, you need set the bag before the -dex-.

Are we talking about setting the bag before beginning to spin or setting the bag before the spin is completed?

I just watched the vid of Felix busting Cheese Processor and he sets after the spin if not as the spin begins. However, if you're making the latter case, I agree.

Yeah actually the more I see of surging sets the more I feel that they are all unclean - apart from maybe Ales Zelinka's set in an old video somewhere.

Clean surging in my opinion has to set before the spin - the vast majority start spinning before the set. There are different levels of clenliness yes - but I think about 99% are not good enough to count as anything other than frigid set pixie (I forget what that set is called) - maybe refracting frigid set pixie. yuck - I don't like bad surging sets. Somebody please post a video of somebody hitting a genuinely clean frigid set.

This is like Jon's ridiculously high standards for ripsteins. I would venture that for spinning to "begin" your body would need to begin to turn away from the bag, such that you are blind to it. If you watch, say, Felix surge (who I would consider the de facto master of surging in this sport) his back is facing the bag as it leaves his foot. The dex in the set is clean. If you think they need to be cleaner than this... I'm sorry, but that's just impractical and unrealistic. Also, I just watched a vid of Ales hitting surge, and his surges are just as clean as Felix's... Read: he begins spinning before the bag leaves his foot, as well.

IMO Felix's surging set isnt as impeccable as you would think. There are probably only a handful of ppl in the world who do it properly.

just because felix' is prolly the best in the world at surging sets, doesn't mean that they are the cleanest. i'd say it is about the same as his (and vaseks) spinning sets, with such ankles these sets hardly ever are really sharp, they tend to be good enopugh considering the crazy stuff they are hitting, but not much more IMO.
the cleanest surging sets on big tricks i have ever seen were from renato.
