By my definition this is unacceptable language. It is obviously a derivation of the word "nigger" and shouldn't be allowed. However, I'm not going to go by my own rules. You tell me, do we as a community condone this usage of the word?

though I dont think that was meant offensively, I am against racism in any form and against anyone, so I voted no, its not. I dont think he should be temp banned or anything though, just everyone should watch their slurs.

No one's getting banned over this particular instance. I'm just asking as a general rule if this language should be allowable.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I meant the word being banned, not anyone in particuliar. Are you asking ifthe word should be censored if someone says it?

Well, I'm not very consistant with my ethics and such, but I didn't think it as a big deal. Racial slurs = bad, unless loosely used with a variation to where it isn't meant to verbally assault someone. I'm sure the meaning in one mind is completely different in another's, especially through text. I wouldn't say ban the word, but throw a red mod note next to the post- no usage of racial slurs please. So yeah, I'm the jerk that voted yes, but then again, be respectful of everyone as much as possible.

I think there should be some clarification on this topic.

Your poll question is :
"Is it okay to use derivations of the word "nigger"?" -

I don't think it is "okay" to use that word -depending on the context of its usage - but neither do I think banning the use of the word is neccessary or the best solution.

If I see people use a racist expression I would probably tell them, either privately or publically that I didn't appreciate it and maybe back that up with some reasons. If they choose to continue to use that expression that's their choice - I just feel that doing so would no doubt alienate themselves from a lot of people (hopefully the majority of the community).

Jeremy, I wonder if you've had a change of heart regarding discriminatory language. You've always been totally against using "gay" or "fag". Perhaps it's because they are almost never used in anything other than a negative connotation.

However, almost any black person who reads or here's any version of the word "nigger" coming from anyone other than another black person will not take it as anything other than negative.
