sole mod

Post by dangardiner »

i was looking at this msg about footbag t-shirts http://modified.in/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=12799
and i thought they were cool, but i have never seen the mod refered too as the "sole mod" it looks like holes were drilled in the sole or something to the similar effect, possibly for lighter soles, can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this, or what it is or what it's for?

From what I understand, that md is for better cushion for when you land and a little lighter shoe. I personally wouldn't drill the soles of my lavers, even though I don't use lavers anymore :D

i did it on my old pair of lavers because i had shin splits .. it helps alot to prevent that.its a lil but lighter but WAY MORE confortable for the impacts since laver's sole is hard.

hm, I don't see how it would help all that much with shin splints. I play on my toes, and I'm pretty sure this is the correct way to play... you can't drill through the front half of the sole, can you?

the sole mod from what many people have told me also results in many rolled ankles. the holes break the support on the out side onf the shoe and cause it to crush down alot on that side which rolls your foot over. keep that in mind if you're heavy into shuffle or ps moves.

idk if there is a tutorial but hacksterbator is right, the shoe can crush down ALOT easier !!!

so if you want the same result without that (i think) drill the surface of the shoe, not the side ... (Ianek Regimbald does it that way)

from an old email I got from ellis:
The bigger holes are with a 5/16" bit, and the smaller holes with a
15/64" bit. On the sole, I always start in the middle, drilling from
the bottom of the sole (the shoe should be upside down). Make sure
the sidewalls (canvas) and tongue are out of the way. Then turn the
shoe over so you're looking at the holes from the interior of the
shoe. You can use the holes as a guide to do the rest of the sole,
drilling from the interior of the sole. When that's finished, do the
lateral holes. Each horizontal hole should match up with a row of
vertical holes, so you have sort of a honeycomb structure.

Weight is not much of an improvement when drilling Lavers. It only
removes about 1/2 oz from each shoe. The bigger improvements are
cushion and flexibility, and they are substantial
