I noticed that the 2006 edition of the ifpa rules are online. Maybe I'm just really behind and this has been up for a while?! There have been some interesting changes to the freestyle rules, and some things that have not been changed that I thought would have been.
The doubles judging stuff that has been added all looks really good - however i think it remains to be seen whether the judges are good enough to enforce these rules as intended.
The definition of uniques has been updated - this will annoy some people but I think it is the right way to go and as long as everyone sticks to it there should be no problems.
I noticed that Article 501 has been slightly changed (am i right?) Does it still allow organisers to alter these rules and still be ifpa sanctioned? It does say "letter and spirit" are open to interpretation. I think the letter of the rules should be set and unalterable otherwise whats the point of Ifpa sanctioning. If you can simply change the rules as you see fit, what exactly is the standard for receiving sanctioning and what does this sanctioning guarantee the players? Why isn't the ifpa enforcing a uniform set of competition rules?
I also noticed there is nothing about x-dex in the rules. I thought it would be added.
I didn't see anything about sic 3 competition rules. I thought they would be added.
I'm interested to see how closely these rules resemble those used at worlds this year. If they still lag behind as I think they will, I would expect further updates to be made next year, which begs the question, why weren't some of these things in this update?

Yeah actually I think those rules haven't changed at all - or the changes that have occured happened years ago and it's taken this long to get the new updates online. Actually that sounds most accurate since the version at footbag.org was from 1996. There were some updated editions floating around but the freestyle rules haven't changed significantly since then.
Regarding changing the rules and sanctioning - the rules (or guidelines) for IFPA sanctioned events is a seperate document. You can find it here: http://www.footbag.org/groups/list/19 - Basically my understanding of it is that it says a tournament can be sanctioned while changing the rules providing it lets the sanctioning committee know what those changes are in advance and they approve it. So if at this years Aus champs if I said I wanted everybody to use a soccerball instead of a footbag for competition presumably the sanctioning committee would not approve the event as IFPA sanctioned - however if I said I wanted to include xdex in shred 30 I feel confident they would approve the event as IFPA sanctioned.
