I keep forgetting and remembering the secret of footbag

Post by smokefree »

So... i'll end up getting frustrated for 2 weeks on a trick and then im like... keep your eyes on it and dont try to go to fast...... its just motion and then i get the trick..... i dont know why i keep forgetting it when i go to bust a trick... its like i cant get that calm ingrained in me i keep rushing it trying to whip my leg around the bag, and im like oh yeh its the same principle as the first trick you ever learned. i need to keep making myself think this.... anyone else have this problem when they were noobs?

I still have this problem.

It's why one session you can hit something easy, because you are visualizing it well and thinking about what you need to to hit it, but the next you forget all that and try to rely on muscle memory which isn't configured for that trick yet and you can't do it. So frustrating.

I used to have this problem, and i would see the "noobs" doin it (i play in alot of circles) and i'd always remind them "focus and control is key". I said it so much that i wouldnt even have to say it because somebody always would. Footbag is a mental game, its all about visualization and meditation.
Also i would like to say that plalying this way is a terrible mistake to make because it will be detrimental on your progression. I always say quality not quantity. I thought i came up with that myself until a couple days ago when i heard my neighbor say it. You can play a couple hours just kinda half-ass and hit some stuff, or you can play for a couple of hours really focusing on making everything as clean and as "perfect" as you can. Taking the second way i guarantee you will have covered alot more ground.
IF this is a problem of yours always remember FOCUS your footbag game depends on it. 8O see how focused this guy is? Thats how you gotta be, only more :x MOre Than THaT!!!! NOw thats focus! learn from this guy he knows what hes talkin about! I guarantee hes gonna be shreddin up. And i dont mean just bop, i mean hes gonna be hitting food processor>Jani walker both sides. :!:

About the pixie, it is an in to out around the world with the distinction that the bag is still rising after you complete the dexterity. After the pixie you should have enough downtime left to add pretty much anything aftrer it. A few common pixie tricks would be a pixie leg over, or smear which is a pixie set followed by a mirage. If you are unfamiliar with these look them up on footbag.org and practice them everyday both sides. Stick to the basics first. Get down all of your basic inside, outside, and toe stalls, then work on dexes and clippers. ONce you get to that point anything can happen.

Set goals, give yourself something to work towards. You probably have a hard time focusing because you don't have a clear picture of what you're working towards. Set goals. Visualize the prize. Give your brain a pathway. You are at point A. Where is your point B? Visualize it. Hear it. What does it feel like to be there. Create it. Your brain and body will do the work to get you there.

When you session dont just be super focused all of the time just when its your turn. When you get the bag just kick it around for a sec and get yourself in the zone. Treat every trick like its your last. Every trick is a delicate flower and must be treated as such.
