Yes I figured it was about time that Mountain Dew got its own topic on Midified. Need I say more?

(Seriously I wonder how long this topic will last)

Damn that was fast, I started the topic like 30 seconds ago.

I would drink a gallon a day (ecspesially today, I had to haul hay), but my parents pretty much keep it out of my house because the box lasts two days. So thats why I have friends. For me, asking a friend to go get Mountain Dew, so that when I go to their house its there, is almost like asking an older person to buy you booze, which is what my parents think Mountain Dew is.

Mountain Dew vs. Vault

Mountain Dew is a classic citrus drink that was first produced in 1948. Made by two Tennesseans, Mountain Dew was intended to be a mixer for whiskey drinks. Mountain dew was first distributed in Knoxville, Tennessee by the Hartman brothers. The citrus soda was bottled by individual companies until Pepsi Cola bought the soda in 1964.

Mountain Dew has had many variants produced over the decades it’s been available at retail. The first spin off was Red, released in 1988. This was a carbonated fruit drink made with similar ingredients as Mountain Dew. Other versions of the soda include Blue Shock, Code Red, LiveWire, Pitch Black, and Baja Blast

Coca-Cola has never been able to relate to sales with competing citrus beverages. The first citrus soda produced by Coca-Cola to contend with Mountain Dew was Mello Yello. Mello Yello was first stocked in shelves in 1979. Mello Yells is still produced today but is available to limited availability. The next citrus clone was “Surge” A.K.A “Urge” in foreign countries. Released in 1994, Surge was another green soda ready to stand up to Dew. Even though Surge was a great drink, it fell before Mountain Dew, and was discontinued in 2001. Surge still has a small following known as the Save Surge Fan Club. Coke’s latest entry in the citrus department is Vault. Vault is known as a hybrid energy drink. Vault’s catch phrase is “Drinks like a soda, kicks like an energy drink”. The soda is toeing the line between energy drink, having more caffine than other contending soda’s. Vault was released in June 2005, and is just now becoming available across the United States. Vault’s commercials fit the extreme soda vibe. The advertising is similar to Dew’s, in showing average people doing extraordinary things. Mountain Dew often uses testimonial advertising of pro athletes.

I bought each of the mentioned sodas I could find, and held a taste test. I tested Mountain Dew, Mello Yello, and Vault. I tested Mountain Dew first. Mountain Dew has a pleasing flavor. It was 20 ounces of green cloudy delight. Dew has a slightly crisp after taste, with no bad flavor. The after taste did not stay long after I swallowed. I thoroughly enjoyed Mountain Dew. It was not too sweet, and left me feeling enthusiastic about MD.

Coke has done well trying to compete with Mountain Dew. Both Mello Yello and Vault taste good, they do not top the original. I drank Mello Yello second. Mello Yello was a descent soda, but was more of a Sprite like drink than anything else. Yello was too crisp, and left my mouth feeling dry after drinking. The aftertaste was very apparent. The likeness to Sprite is overbearing, and the only difference between Yello and Sprite is caffeine.

Vault’s taste test was very successful. Vault is an awesome drink, and I enjoyed the soda. One thing bothered me about Vault. It was semi sweet, only 1 gram more than Mountain Dew, but the aftertaste was too sweet. The taste of vault is much like Mountain Dew, and from what I remember, exactly like Surge. The taste of concentrated orange juice is more noticeable.

After my taste test of each soda, I drank a glass of water to rinse the remaining tastes from my mouth. Mountain Dew was clearly the victor in the experiment. It had great taste, full body, and a pleasing aftertaste. The other sodas had small flaws, like an unappreciated aftertaste, or being too crisp. Its no wonder why Coca-Cola has never been able to reproduce a soda like Mountain Dew, and out sell the original green soda. Mountain Dew is near perfect as far as I’m concerned. Vault and company trail in sales with inferior drinks for good reason. Nothing can beat the original.

Yeah it might as well be. I have been trying to quit for 5 years but I love it too damn much. Once I went off to college there was no control. There was a 7-11 around the corner from me and 99c for a 44oz big gulp can just ruin you.

Interesting paper, thanks!

I have some friends who are MD freaks.

Actually, KJ-52 has a song about mountain dew called Mountain Dew Anonymous. Limewire it or whatever if you want.

I used to like MD, but I stopped drinking soda (or any other caffeinated beverage) roughly two years ago. The sipping is bad for your enamel, the sugar is an unnecessary source of calories, there's nothing good healthwise in the drink, and caffeine is mildly addictive. I haven't had any MD for quite a while, but I know other people have said that if you haven't had it for a long time and try it again it tastes ubersweet (in a bad way).

By the way, since I don't drink most anything carbonated anymore, I got painful hiccups that lasted over 4 hours after drinking a coke to help stay awake driving home from moving my sister out of her apartment.

Appretiation?

Did you guys knew that Mountain Dew decreases your "status of manhood" so to say. So if you some day notice that you just can't get it up, it's propably because of that gallon of Mountain Dew per day.

I don't drink Mountain Dew... Sometimes I mix booze with it when I'm drinking, but other than that - no.

[EDIT] I propably should have read all the posts before posting... So you did knew. OK, have fun.
