4 hours of shred footage!!!! [no vid yet!!!!]Help!

Post by Guest_2 »

I filmed tons of footage on my 8 mm video camera.

And don't know what to do with it!!!

I have a dvd recorder-and plugged it into the video + audio out and burned a dvd-but the dvd doesn't play on dvd players or computers!

I have a friend [who I persuaded with my manly charm ] who is willing to edit all of it! She's going to school in Chi-town for videography too!

It would be an actually good video-with good editing-but I don't know how to convert the video to an editable format! Please help!

I use Adobe Premiere to capture the video from a camera to PC. It is in DV format (digital video), which means it's HUGE. So if you have 4 hours, that would make around 5GB of material.

Then I edit it in Adobe Premiere or Ulead Video/Media Studio. When I make a video from the clips, I compress it to divx or wmv. That makes it a LOT smaller.

Every format is more or less editable.

if you dont compress the vid in DV, its 250Mo / 1 min. i have a bloopers of a vid i made at school ( i studied in audio / visual, so i film, edit vids, i can make music shows, work in a TV staton, etc etc ) and if my memorie is good, i 2.2Go for 6 minXXsec .. uncompressed in .mov format filmed in miniDV.

anyway, adobe premiere is a good program to learn editing, its more user friendly than AVID ( the prog i used at school ) we started with Premiere 1.5 and we could make alot of cool things. and it take most of the format .. so, id say, try to get adobe premiere somewhere on the internet or ask for someone to get it for you if you dunno how (like me).

last advice, dont put everything on your comp, just take the good takes of the vid, you need alot of place to make a vid .. even if you have a 250Go HD, you can full it VERY fast. (and for personnal issues, it sucks when you have to delete shits to make the final vid because your HS is full :-/ )

divx and mov are the 2 best way to compress it IMO

No offense Josh, but you make yourself seem totally incapable of anything.

80% of the threads you start are based around you needing help with some totally basic problem that YOU could solve with like fourteen seconds of thought. But instead of taking the time to think it through to a logical end you just give up right away and post your problem on here and hope someone can help you out.

I don't like sounding like a jerk or a bully but I also don't like you making yourself look stupid by starting a buttload of inane threads.

Thanks Tom-really fucking appreciate it

Except this isn't a problem that's easily fucking solved. I wasn't clear enough and that is my fault-but now you do look like a dick because that was uncalled for and could have been taken care of PM style.

I need to get the video off the 8 mm video and place it onto the computer [or dvd]. But the only output I have is the video and audio output [a fairly old camera]. I can burn a dvd-but it's only readable on that dvd recorder-and not on a computer. I can easily transfer it onto VHS, but that would be ridiculous.

My friend who is going to edit it-was going to do so to make it professional and a demo disc I can send to businesses. She's going to school for video and knows what she's doing-but doesn't know what do to with my piece of shit camera.

This is a camera problem and I thought someone with experience in old school 8 mm cameras could help

Well, now I understand your problem!

If you have only video and audio output on your camera (and no firewire), you must get a TV Tuner. You than connect the camera to your tuner, problem solved.

Oooor you can go the long way around. You can connect your camera to your VCR and connect the VCR to your PC.

Did that help?

I disagree, every post I have ever read from Josh has sounded pretty mature and well thought out to me. Not everyone is an expert on everything they choose to ask about Tom, you know what they say... if you don't ask you will never learn.

I do recall recently you making a huge fuss about appealing to Nike for sponsorship because you thought the footwear corporate giant would crush your little footbag shoe endevour, now honestly Tom, you make stupid posts claiming that Nike will turn round and make footbag shoes if provoked and then you try to say Josh makes idiotic sounding posts? You may want to rethink what you dish out in the future Tom, because it could be you who sounds pretty silly.

Josh in releation to your question, not many people know that 8mm (a media type which was later successed by Hi-8) is an analog media (not digital) so you can't use firewire or USB to read the video onto your computer for editing.

What you will need Josh, is a capture card for your computer that you can plug the audio and video outputs from your camera into so that you can convert analog footage into digital media that your computer can read.

Here is a usefull site I found just now on google that may help you http://www.videohelp.com/dazzlecapture.htm

Good luck with that, and don't stop asking questions!

I see this alot too. Not specifically the vindicator, but i have noticed alot of
"kids" (I really dont know their age but im guessing by the maturity level not too old) Who start riddiculous threads or post riddiculous posts. Now it isnt just the riddiculous posts that get on my nerves , its the fact that alot of the time it seems to me like they just want to post for the hell of posting, and alot of the time they arent even serious freestylers. I have alot of respect for freestyle footbag and footbaggers. If Tom were to post a riddiculous post i would let it slide bc Tom is just a riddiculous guy, and Tom is a bad ass shredder. Have you heard of this smoke free guy? Lost bag due to pendulum thread? Wtf? Wtf i say. I probably should have made a new thread for this but i didnt want to make myself look stupid.
And Nobody calls tom a jerk! Even though i did once and Tom, im sorry i called you a jerk it was an accident i swear! Toms just trying to keep the forums professional and we should respect that. I know i do.

My concern regarding Nike was more based on the fact that I felt the timing was wrong and going to Nike at this point may snub later efforts.

Your comments just make it really clear that you plain don't understand the situation.

Oh yeah, and alot of your posts are really stupid Nic.

Well I guess we can all learn something from this... everyone posts pretty stupid sounding stuff every so often, weather it be on a whim, because of a confusion or misunderstanding, because someone has offended you, or simply because you are indeed stupid. I can think of only one person who is certain not to have made a stupid post, and that person is Jesus.
