Yeh Stylin Dyalan is the original and the best, it just doesnt work for Dylan IMO hahaha
I call him 'Super' Fry... like Soopafly...get it?
I was considering Lyntons likelihood of making BAP in his prime which was probably between 2000-2002 i guess? Jeremy would be a better judge of that. I think with the level that footbag and BAP shred was at then, from what i have seen, his skills would have put him in that category of players. If Jon was inducted for his originality and uniqueness, then i thought it highly likely Lynton inventing about 40 or so tricks, some of which are rarely hit by anyone but him and others that set standards for toe shred today, would have put him in there too.

I didn't get to play with Lynton until the NSW comp in december or january 2002-2003. Certainly at that stage he was on top of his game and I think would have easily made bap. I think not just his uniqueness, but he was playing hard and hitting plenty of really high quality stuff - and definitely could consistantly bust out big stuff too. I think his winning sick 3 at homebake was atomic ducking butterfly>blurriest>mobius - which certainly even by todays standards would do very well - and he hit a number of combos as I recall. I think the other thing about lyntons game was he had very few bails - he played almost entirely genuine - in fact osis and butterfly when he hit them in runs both seemed like a struggle - perhaps because it was such a drop in pace. I think dlo and symp mirage were his real bails. As I recall Ales commented in 2004 when he played with us that Dan and I might make BAP if we kept playing but that he thought Lynton probably would and I guess Ales has played with a great deal of top quality players. 2004 I think Lynton was definitely much too busy with study to put any time into practice so his level was much lower than the year before - and in fact when he played with Ales he'd had like 2-3 months off with a bad ankle injury so it would have been surprising if he didn't make. I think the 2003 NZ champs results are a fairly good indication of where his game was at - Ryan was the world champ at that stage and Lynton wasn't that far away from him - I'm not sure if the routines are online but Lynton's rountine that year was probably his best in competition (considering the aus champs 2001 routines were cut down to only 1 minute at the last minute - so going dropless wasn't that big a deal) and he only had two drops. One with a mix up to the finish of his juggling and the other dropping his last move of the routine and I think in both semis and finals he was really reasonably close to Ryan's level - certainly the judging scores suggested that and considering Steve Goldberg was on the judging team - I think those are as accurate as you can expect at any level.

I kicked with Ryan Thomas last week (in Fairfax, VA). He's so good! Very smooth style and encouraging to kick with. He just got out of school in Texas, works as a tennis instructor, and currently building up the funds to get out on his own. Overall, I'd say he's looking great, and has a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully, he'll make East Coast Championships this coming weekend.
Oh my god. Johnny suderman. Jeremy, you are so right in saying he'd make bap. But you are so wrong in your rankings of top 7 players.
Johnny is in there SOMEWHERE in the top 7. I guarantee it. Every single run is soo long and varied. 69's out of anything, whirrs everywhere, bsos. Quantums, nukes, atomics, pixies, fairies, every downtime component. I think johnny is probably...... 4-7 in the world in shred.
No doubt he'd make bap if he attended worlds, but i just dont think its important to him.

Well I think the top 7 I mentioned have proven themselves through their results at competitions - well apart from Clavens who I said I was speculating about when I mentioned him - but Vasek, Penske and Lon have the three highest competition shred 30 scores in the history of footbag, Felix and Honza have both been consistantly at the top of every major comp they've competed in for the last few years apart from Vasek. I guess Jorden doesn't really have the results to back him up but it's obvious from what people who have played with him say and from the footage of him that he's in the top 7 in the world.
And if you listed the top 7 fearless records in the world it would go something like this (to my knowledge):
Vasek 20+
Penske 16
Lon 15
Jorden 15
Felix 13
Honza 13
Clavens 10+ (I'm not sure but I know it's over 10).
I think it's fairly likely that those 7 players I mentioned all have records of 15 and over and are the only players in the world to have records of 15 or over.

Clavens 15
Honza 14 (and that was when I asked him like over a year ago - I'm sure it's higher now)

Hm, I think that's a roughly accurate list. And I've played with all of those players on multiple occasions (excluding Clavens, whose progress between tournies is so high, that I only count CSS7).Jeremy wrote: Vasek, Lon, Jorden, Jim Penske, Clavens, Honza, Felix?

That said, I think competition results are only a rough gauge of how good players are. Chad and Ahren were in the top 3 shredders from 1999-2001, but their competition results (shred and routines) didn't reflect this at all. On the flip side, GF Smoothie was in Worlds Finals in 1998-2003, but wasn't in the top 10 shredders in the world (in most people's opinion. As a side note, GF was still pretty hardcore in 97, but he put on weight the next year, and after that everybody else raised their game a lot).
In terms of competition results, I'd say that consistently scoring over 200 in competition at least reflects your consistency, but it says nothing about your creativity, or how you hold your ground in a circle or anything like that. Personal unique fearless records also give you some idea of skill, but like shred scores, should only be counted as one of several considered factors.
I think Jeremy has the overall right idea, by taking into account several factors. For the record, I still think Vasek is the best, but the fact that so many players are pushing and nearing his level, is a great sign of the sport. My list would be something like:
1. Vasek
2. Felix/Jorden
4. Penske/Lon
But then, I feel 2-7 are all pretty close, and you never know who is making a jump in skill.
Well i havent played with anyone on that list except jorden and johnny. But judging by videos, which show someone as BETTER than usual. Johnny may or may not be better than Lon and David.
May or may not.
May or may not.

Scott Bevier is somewhere in there. Him and I are either neck and neck in circles, or he's surpassing me.
And I don't think you can exclude Mulroney. I really doubt he's rusty, and his 03 shit is better than what I can do. And he's probably the best routine player.
And in all actuality you'd have to have been at world 05, css7, euros last week, ryan mulroneys basement, and some jam bevier's been at to really know whats up between everyone.

yeah for sure, this is just idle speculation.
Interesting about Ryan. Does he still play at all? I heard he only plays if he's getting paid for it these days. I think it's hard to count somebody based on their potential - like I don't think you can say he's the best routine player because he doesn't compete in routines anymore - he would probably place very highly if he did but you can't be the best at something if you don't do it.
