there ended up being 8 competitors, there were a few more people around
it was an incredibly informal event, but everyone seemed to have a good time
I had consecs, four square and freestyle
I actually missed the four square tournament, I went to bathroom and when I came back the game had been won already.
It was cool, this guy from ANU is a juggler and he was juggling, doing some 7 ball stuff, and other skilled things...impressive to say the least.
I was actualyl suprised people were managing to hit some cool little things in the best trick competition
being a beginners comp, I didn't expect much....though....
Felix hit ducking toe stall and pendulum kick
Tristan hit outside set far legover and some other cool stuff...Rhys and Andy hit some combos of basic stalls
Tristan was really the winner, but he already won a bag from the consecs, so Felix won the bag
We're going to make it a monthly event, the next one will be at ANU. it was good fun. Hopefully they will make it to the Sydney event as well.
I'm going to start going to the juggling club at ANU after the hols...Tuesdays at 7 and check that out, go for some shred action.

I had a solo session yesterday
I hit double over down for the first time
I also came close to
DATW (out) on each side
kicked it away a couple of times, but never quite got it well.
The results of my 1 minute consecs comp
(it was -3 for drops, and no points taken off for not changing sides, as this was everyone's first competition)
1. Tristan (ANU/Canada) 103 kicks/5 drops= 88
2. Rhys (UCU Footbag Secretary) 80 kicks/6 drops= 62
3. Andy (ANU) 94 kicks/11 drops= 61
4. Felix (ANU/Germany) 68 kicks/7 drops= 47
5. Benno (UCU Treasuer) 62 kicks/11 drops= 29
6. Peter (Foucs- UC Christian group) 58 kicks/14 drops= 16
7. Dana (UC/token girl!) 47 kicks/11 drops= 14
8. Stevo (UCU Footbag food and beverage officer) 42 kicks/16 drops= -6
so Tristan got a really good score and I was all...I wonder if I could beat that
the answer was.......NO
I got 87 kicks/3 drops= 78
props to Tristan. I can see some good footbag future in him. Good times!
so yeah...gonna make a monthly event across Canberra...on the first Friday of each month. Which is conveniently Lithium night..which most people in the club go to as well
next one will be at ANU in the first Friday of May. I look forward to it.
I think I had something else to say footbag related, but I forget now...hmmm....Sam and I nearly broke up on the weekend...we had a massive fight but we're all better now
we went to Sydney to see Parkway Drive/The Dead Walk! and came back in the same day.

UCU Footbag club got affiliated. Sweet!
They're giving us about $400....+ memberships, gives us about $500 for the year....and the fact of the matter is, you could run this thing for free...$500 just lets you be fancy and a bit more professional about it
the plans for the money at the moment
$50- Ausfootbag affiliation
$100 (for the moment)- buying bags. Since elemental sponsored the comp I'd like to go straight to them...I'll be spending more, but they only give you certain amounts at a time...so it will mainly be the money from the memberships that go into that. All the bags that get sold, the money will go back to the club.
so we've got like $300 more to spend
I think part of that will eventually be invested in a portable CD player so we can have music to kick to.
other money will go into at least one social function.
Wow. It's awesome having money to spend on footbag stuff. I dig it!
Also with footbag sponsorship news, I'm working on some proposals for the nationals next year with jeremy for my Sports Sponsorship subject. So if we can something out of that, it'd be pretty awesome.
wow. Exciting stuff. It feels really good this year. Like I'm actually doing something for the sport...I feel as if I deserve a place in the national council. yeah. Good times.
I had a little kick last night, but I was feeling sore...so didn't last long. Nothing of any importance was hit. Actually not much at all was hit. Oh well.
I'm going to Sydney sometime. I'm on holidays now...but I'm going for like a week. It's holidays now, but I'm going from the last weekend of the hols for a week.
Hopefully there'll be many a kick had.
the plan is
up on the 22nd
Amity Affliction/IKTPQ@ yallah 23rd
Opeth @ Luna Park 25th
Hatebreed @ Manning Bar 26th
Frankenbok @ Newcastle 28th
Cog @ Manning Par 29th (day)
Parkway Drive @ Fox Studios 29th (night)
hopefully I'll be able to get a lot of shred in over that time.
I have one assignment due in that week, but you can hand in on WebCt, so that's alright.
It's crazy this year..all the other years I've lived in Canberra, it's basically just been endless bus trips to Sydney and back
this year I've been to
Sydney 3 times...spending a total of 5 days there
Brisbane twice.....spending about 8 days there and in the surrounding areas
and back to Bega a couple of times
the rest of the time has been Canberra Canberra Canberra, which I am quite enjoying...I have a lot more friends down here these days, there's more shows on all the time....it's good.
Just need to improve my footbag game and I'd have it all sorted! I have some blisters on my feet...I seriously need some new shoes...but...not really in the money for that right now

I just had a kick before. I was in really poor form, which was a bit disappointing. I really need to get a new pair of lavers and a decent bag, that would help me out a lot
in good news I hit DATW (out) on my left foot.
now I'm finding it weird...on my right foot I can hit it in, and then I can hit paradon, barfly, etc...but on my left I can only hit the double out dex.
Strange.
yeah. nothing else to report

just before I stomped on my foot going for double over down. It was kinda..hurty
before that I hit pixie double over down (new 5 yay!)
My form is down though...I'm hitting some new moves, but my fundamentals are starting to mysteriously vanish...spooky!
I really need some new lavers, I think the incredibly fucked-ness of my shoes is the main reason behind the stomping on the foot....and a bag
i've been doing surveys for the Centre for Tourism Research, and when I get the cash, all of it is going to go into footbags. Gotta pay the UCU footbag club affiliation (I owe the club some money
) then gonna buy news lavers and a new bag.
Also going to buy some bags, probably just elementals as a money making device for the footbag club. It's been a bit annoying sticking around in the holidays, because nobody else is around. And as soon as the hols end, I'm going to Sydney for a week. Funny that...
anyway..that's all I've got to say really. And that Canberra is damn cold at 5am

strange hey!...jsut need to get them all strong
so I jsut kicked today. It looked cold and windy outside..and yeah...it was.
but I hit some cool links with spinning clipper
ducking clipper>spinning clipper>whirl
zulu clipper>spinning clipper
my aim before even beginning the session was to hit
plo>osis>ducking clip>spinning clip>whirl>pdx mirage then probably go into something else...didn't quite get there.
still can't hit anything but osis from flip DATW
overall today I was feeling fairly strong, which was nice. Kicking Tuesday/Wednesday with the Sydney kids, really looking forward to that.
Also looking forward to seeing
Opeth (Tuesday)
Hatebreed + The Dead Walk! (Wednesday)
they're the big ones
also
tonight i'm doing "stage manager" for my internship for event management at "sound fest" featuring I Killed The Prom Queen, A Stab In The Dark, ....Dead, Brisk and MORE!
going to Wollongong on Sunday night to see Prom Queen with The Amity Affliction, can't wait for that.
Tonight is not so exciting...the guy running the show is probably the most disorganised guy I've ever encountered. When we first printed our zine he wanted us, this other zine Jilted Vibe and a zine Sound Underground was making to merge, so we could combine and bring in more advertising dollars. Gladly, we told him to fuck off (nicely)
Next issue of Can I Scream? wil lbe out in June (though no footbag article this time)
I'm doing articles on Overcranked, Hatebreed, and maybe one more. Our next issue is also going to come out in full colour! A friend of ours' housemates is an apprentice printer and said he would print it in colour at the cost of 2 cases of beer...pretty good deal really.
I've had this crazy obsession lately that any other free zine I will pick up and read every single page to compare how ours goes. And I think our zine holds it own....haven't seen an article about footbag in any of the others!
I am applying for a position on the UCU Member Services Committe...this year the government has brought in "Voluntary Student Unionism" which is kinda good, and bad
good- not having to pay $135 every semester
bad- losing out on all the services that money covered.
Anyway, the Member Services committee basically runs a lot of events and stuff and the clubs and societies...so really, for serving on there, it cold well mean better benefits for the UCU footbag club.
Could work out...
anyway...I clipped the side of my leg whilst I was kicking and now it kind of hurts

I went to Sydney from Tuesday til today
it had it's moments
saw
OPETH- they were amazing
HATEBREED + THE DEAD WALK- awesome, but seen them before
Parkway Drive + Her NIghtmare + Stronghold + Jungle fever....pretty good but a weird show.
I was goign to go to more shows, but cashflow issues happened
so now I'm in awesome debt, heaps of people close to me are pissed off with me and I'm tired.
IN footbag......I hit blender and also spinning osis. I forgot my short shorts for the trip, but still played pretty well. Was hittign some decent runs, nothing massive...but I had a sore knee as well (stacked it doing a headwalk seeing IKTPQ on Sunday night in Wollongong.)
I'm a bit sick of Sydney, I don't think I'll go there for quite some time now.

Things with the footbag club are going well
today I was informed that we can hire the uni bar for free (being a uni club) and put shows and such on
OMGZ we're going to be rich
also paid the affiliation yesterday to Ausfootbag (about time)
haven't really had time to kick myself much lately at all...I think I've kicked once since I got back from Sydney..oh noes. been fairly busy with uni and some other stuff.
Went out last night and there was a free BBQ!! woo!

so my plans for great riches have been foiled, as the guy from the bar was all like "you can only have the bar for free if you get a big act blah blah blah"
but...that's not going to stop me from putting on a show for the footbag club...though now there's a risk that we could lose money, but there's always the chance of a profit.
The plan is
Four Dead
Takedown (Wollongong)
The Fight For Us (Ulladulla)
Dick Tracy (Tuross)
the venue is booked, and the coast bands are all locked in...just have to get Four Dead to confirm...hopefully I see Jon (their singer tomorrow at free bbq, he usually makes an appearance.
Also seeing my friend Kayte who runs Can I Scream....we're possibly going to have it as a zine launch...which will mean half as much profit for the footbag club...but the thing is I play a big part in the zine...so it's not like I'm just giving the money away or anything...it can help as out with distro and stuff.
But yeah...it should all go well...a lot of coast kids and cooma kids should come up for it. 70 payers is about the number I want to pay the bands as much as I want to and start making money. Speaking of the footbag club, we're so awesome that we're now on myspace
http://www.myspace.com/ucufootbag
I'm planning on putting on a whole lot more shows over the course of the year...should be good times.
On my own footbag game....I really need new lavers...my big toe pokes out of the left foot chronically...I may be purchasing some next week...see how much debt I get into this week. I had a kick the other day, didn't really hit much. I was going to kick at the juggling club tonight, but I ended up falling asleep, it was a bit disappointing really. Hopefull I can kick with the ANU guys another time this week. They did win all the bags I had to give away at my comp.
but...that's not going to stop me from putting on a show for the footbag club...though now there's a risk that we could lose money, but there's always the chance of a profit.
The plan is

I'm planning on putting on a whole lot more shows over the course of the year...should be good times.

wow...nearly posted this in BCS...that would have been ultra gay!
procrastinate.......yehaw
I have this massive assignment due tomorrow, I've done pretty much all the parts I had to do
the assignment brings the gay
<__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________>
at least that much, maybe up to 10x
and my group is going great guns
one is in Paris, another went to Newcastle for the weekend
(well timed guys)
anyway...footbag club is going good. I think I've decided to be much more concerned with growing my club than growing mad skillz at footbag....probably through laziness and amibitions of personal gain
But yeah....by the end of the month, we could be in the money
or...I could be in debt...hopefully it doesn't come to that
we've ordered a whole lot of chocolates....I think they'll sell well. I hope so anyway. On Wednesday I get 20 boxes of house delivered to my house, and I don't want to be the one that eats them all.
We're also putting on a show (it was mentioned above). This local shop/all ages venue Sound underground got robbed the other day, and they were like fuck it we're shutting down....then everyone was all like OMGZ you can't do that. So they were like ok, we'll stay open
so they stay open, there were a couple of shows on this weekend, less than 50 people at either. Infuriating really that people will be like...they're gonna shut down everyone post myspazz message about it. As opposed to oh, they're gonna shut down, maybe we should go to the shows. losers.
On my own footbag game (this is always the last part I write about in here, cos it's not that impressive, and never improves much). I played a fair bit on Sunday...I was playing reasonably strongly, with plenty of guiltless kinda stuff in there. I should try and break my tripless record...I think it's like....4. I'm sure I could do more than that (well not actually, cos I never have) but I could see it happening.
I did a big mailout to a lot of places on Friday arvo asking for prize donations. So far the winners of the next UCU Footbag Club could be up for a family pass to Questacon (value $42) or a $40 bar tab at the Green Room.
Doing an order from elemental this week, I have put the money in already, I just have to wait til it goes into the account. Will be good so that when people go "so where do you buy these from" I'll just go ME. Hopefulyl that will make the club some more money....we'll be able to claim part of it from UCU, which will be good, as well as the Ausfootbag afiliation.
Tonight my team won in touch..this was mainly due to the fact the other team only had 5 players, and were very unorganised. There is this girl on our team that tries to boss everyone round, but just stands on the wing and does nothing...tonight she said something that annoyed me and I'm just like "SHUT UP". take that! The best part of the game was someone on my team knocked on at dummy half, the ref had his back turned to the play and I just picked it up and went "that never happened" my thinking was...I have no integrity, the moral thing to do would be to hand it over. So of course I continued running. It didn't lead to much, though soon after I sent a ball to Nat of a blatant touch pass. Even with all the cheating and the other team having one less player, we only won 4-2. Good old touch team....
speaking of me and dodgy-ness and beign touch related...I still haven't paid my fees...that's impressive. I might just never play again and be banned from the competition for life. ahaha. nar, I'll probably pay them fairly soon.
so I spose I should get back to this business.....URGH, ah well after tomorrow this assignment can go and fuck off

long time no update
haven't kicked much at all lately
been SUPER busy with assigments, but they're all done now...so I might have a kick over the weekend
putting on a show tonight for the launch of teh next issue of the zine...hopefully it all goes ok, there's been some large dramas over the times of organising it.
Got very drunk last night, I'm still really hungover and it's 4 in the afternoon. Ouch. That's rough
It's my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow.....have to get her something good as a present. Went to the shops today, looked at a few things..but everything is rather expensive

so it's nice to be writing this from my own computer (our modem at home has been out of action for a long while and now it's back in business). GOOD.
So....played some footbag this morning
I came very close to hitting pixie same dlo...it rolled of my foot once
also spinning clipper bsos....I can hit it both sides, the left hand side just isn't very balanced yet. it'll happen soon.
So it's middle of exams...I'm doing a lot of...not studying. First exam is tomorrow, finish next week...then...I don't know
Possible melbourne trip...not sure. Train is only $50, that's much cheaper than flying and I'm most likely going with Sam, so it wouldn't be a bad journey. Speaking of Sam, Saturday is 4 months for us...I think that totals up to more than all my other relationships put together (not hard)
With my footbag game, lately I've been trying just cool links between 4's
problem is i never seem to be able to get a third 4 in the combo
highlights of this morning's session included
parkwalk>spinning osis
blender>ducking osis
pixie osis> pdx whirl
the show we put on the other night broke even, which was nice. It was pretty good fun, and there'll be more to come.
Yeah..generally things are going pretty well
