Hey Dave,

No way! I accept any kind of good criticism. I really believe that Sunil was being too easy on me. Your insight on my form was really helpful, because I really do believe I lacked alot in my game that weekend. Chris was just as helpful. I didn't have time to work on footbag for a long time, so I was expecting my footwork to be out of whack.

Really, your advice was very helpful. Sunil is just too kind, Star of Bethlehem.

See you at Spikenshred.

So yesterday night I was at work and it was really hot out when I left so I opened my sun roof. I proceeded to cruise the streets of Bethlehem Township, bumpin' to tunes and givin' shout outs to all my shorties.

It was a pleasent evening, and the sun was being hugged by the horizon as darkness slowly moved in. I, David Clavens, was rollin' to the Rolling Stones, a CD I found in the garage. I can't get no satisfaction.

So I rolled up to my house, got out, got my work shit out of the back, and went inside. Oh, but if you were the clever reader you would say "BUT DAVID WHAT ABOUT THE SUN ROOF?" Well, I forgot.

So anyway last night it rained a shitload. You do the math.

So now I have a 2002 Jetta Boat Edition. Complete with 2 inch deep puddles and watter logged seats. The upholestery is now lined with a nice 2 layers of towels, and my mom is driving around with all the windows down to dry it off. Obviously, my parents weren't too thrilled about me turning their car into a rolling titanic. So I got yelled at and shit and now I feel bad and I don't know if I should go to New Jersey becuase I'll get some huge guilttrip.

Moral: If you have a sunroof, close the frikken thing. Unless your into boating.

Love,

Well, here's an update. After cleaning and shit I went and cleaned my car. And now I'm about to go to new jersey. But as I was sweeping my porch before I left... I saw them.

I was sweeping the porch, like I'm known to do,
Making it clean, Thinking of you...
And that's when I saw them,
Crawling by the door,
and I knew this was the enemy, I had killed before!

ANTS! They're back, they're back,
here to take over, here to kill,
ANTS! They're back, of course of course,
Here to invade with no remorse!!!
I told you about the creature,
about its eyes and its scary features!
but you did not beleive,
is this the proof you need?

I was sweeping the porch, cleaning it up,
when i saw the black bodies, and i got a rush,
I lunged to the wall where they had their gathering,
I held back my hand, delaying the smattering!
I looked at their bodies, but for some reason they were red,
But the rest of their bodies were black instead!
"MUTANT ANTS!" I yelled in fear,
Clutching my broom, holding back tears,
I yelled to my mother, "come quick, get the raid"
"the ants are taking over and they're having a parade!!!!!!!!!!"

Ants! I told you they'd be back, to take whats theirs!!!!
Ants! Here's the proof, look at them, they're right there!!!!
Grab the raid and anything else you find,
I'm blowing these insects back in time!
Ants! Look at my pain, dont you see?
ILL KILL YOU ALL, GOD HELP ME!!!!!

My mother rushed out, bottle in hand,
she stammered "david, i just dont understand!"
I looked at my mother, the women i love the most,
"BITCH DIDNT YOU READ MY LAST BLOG POST?"
She turned in confusion, and stared in my eyes,
"IVE NEVER BEEN ON MODIFIED!!!!"
"NEVERMIND THEN" I yelled in dismay,
"she must still think its modified.ca!!!!!!"

Back to the ants, the problem right now,
I'd end the plague, somehow... somehow,
I took the raid, and unleashed my fury,
the ants took notice, ran away in a hury,
but it was too late, the mist was to thick,
not to mention my jedi mind tricks!

Ants! Your dead, and so is your hive!
I'll never let you be fruitful and multiply!
To kill all the ants, that is more desire,
Look in my eyes, do you see the fire?
Ants! Come back to my house, i'd like to see you try,
Your just inviting yourself over to die!!!!!

Ants! You say you have a purpose or something,
well to me irrigating soil means nothing,
get out of my life! get out of my heart!
go back into the darkkk!
please just let me be!
dont follow me to new jersey!!!!!!!!

Off to spike and shred! Have a good weekend!

Today I came home from work, thinking maybe my climacools from ebay would come. I kind of doubted in though, just becuase of it only being 2 days.

To my surprise, there they were on the kitchen table. I opened them up and gawked at the beauty. I really feel like people rape these shoes when they turn them into footbag kicks. They are straight up AMAZING looking new. My pair has no signs of wear at all. They do smell of cinnamon though.

The first test was to see if they fit. They are a womens 8.5, which is a mens 7. I wear an 8.5 laver in mens. So I thought this was going to be impossible. Turns out they fit perfect. The littlest bit snug. Im kind of thinking they are mens 8.5, not womens. But they look girly as shit. Hmmmm....

So anyway, first impressions:

pros
- snug as shit, so good for footbag size wise
- super light
- no wear
- beautiful looking

cons
- small toe box w/o mods
- inside is dodgey, really weird type of insert
- girly

ok, so granted my reasonings arent very good yet. but thats basically cuz all i did was a toe stall in them. i really think these need to be modded. idk how you could play in them straight up. i mean you could, but i think there is so much potential there. I think once i get some balls ill silicon them up. I will try to play in them with no mods first though.

I really hate how they look modded, so Idk what Im going to do. ugh.

climas rock so much harder than lavers. i love mine, and ill probably cry when they start dieing. with the toe mod, there is shit tons of landing area.

props on getting such good scores in that tourney. good luck in newjearsy.

Yo, after you silicone them, put some tape on all the areas above the side of the sole and below and spray paint that part a cool color. Then use that stuff that peng does(I think it's like a Krylon paint sealant) to seal it so it doesn't scrape off. If you do a good job, you'll never know it was caulked. I think un-painted caulk looks kinda ghetto on those too. You could do the same for the inside stalling surface. Go to town Dave!

There are many times in life where your supposed to be overwhelmed with emotion. Your supposed to feel so happy that something is done, so eager to move on. I should feel like that today.

Today, June 5th, 2006, I graduate high school. In less than 3 hours I will no longer be a part of the public school system. I will be a young adult armed with the knowledge that was supposedly instilled in me during my 10+ years in the Bethlehem Area School District.

I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad. I feel kind of indifferent. I don't feel any different inside. I don't feel like I've accomplished much. High school wasn't really that much of a challenge. I feel like maybe I couldve done more outside in the real world, rather than inside some building. But as I say that, I think about all the things I've learned. Not school things, but people things. How to get along, how people are, you know.

I don't know if I'll look back and smile at the past 4 years. I dont have any close friendships here. I have better friends through footbag. I won't remember any girlfriends (i only had like 3), I won't remember any crazy parties (i only went to like 3), and I won't have any sence of connection to what most think is the best years of their lives.

A lot of people will cry tonight I assume. A lot will bawl for the friends they are soon about to leave forever. It's funny, because most of my friends were never here at all. I'm not sure what I'll do when it's all said and done. Perhaps I'll just smile and take it in, and look forward to what I hope is the start of something better than here.

It's funny when you think in terms of how much of your life you spend in school. So far I've spent 17 years, with at least 4 more to go. You spend so much of your life (at least 1/4th) learning about things in a formal setting. I hope one day I can use some of this knowledge to make something somewhere better. I guess no matter what you beleive life's point is, you can't knock making the world a better place.

Looking back, I've gone through a lot of shit in highschool. And for 3 years I've had footbag with me to get me through some of that stuff. I think everyone has something that helps them through high school, and bad times in general. I think for me that has always been footbag and the people in it. I never got help with homework or anything like that, but I instantly had dozens of people at my fingertips if I needed to talk about something. And I don't think many people have that kind of network. There are too many friends to list, too many conversations to detail, but if you've ever helped me through anything, you know who you are. And if you've ever just played footbag, and wanted to spread it, props to you too.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Most people regard the college years as the best of their lives. Those who regard high school as their best years never went ot a 4-year college ;)

College is really all about expanding your mind, about learning how to learn. For some, the 4 years is their end-goal, during which time they're learning facts. For others the first 4 years are only a small part of a long process of learning how to learn and why learning is critical. The best part is that you dont have to be so focused on school to enjoy life. Your schedule is much freer, for the most part.

So for you, don't worry about how you feel now, and don't feel guilty about not being all emotional. YOu are looking forward to many better things, and many of your compadres aren't.

I've made some calculations in my progress in college, and it seems that I'll be in graduating a semester or year behind, because I neglected to register several more classes to keep my credit quota. However, I'm having a lot of fun where I am, and I'm not in a rush to get out within 4 years. Like Jeremy, life is full of learning experiences. It's all about making that one step and choosing a road for yourself. Nothing physically stays perfect through time. Whether if it's in footbag, your day-to-day job, or cramming at school, you're always yourself and you're always moving forward. And that's all that matters.

It's been a blast to read your blog and meet you in person. Hope to see you at East Coast.

I'm not sure why I felt compelled to write tonight, but I did, so I will.

Today has been a weird mix of feelings. Not girly sentimental shit, just feelings related to footbag and such. I woke up and went o my mom's school to help move shit, and then I did a demo for some kids and they were really into it. it felt good to be clapped for. It also makes you a better presenter I think. Random improv and stuff. I think I'm way to serious when I get up and play at tournaments. I've only been happy once with my attitude in a routine, and that was at GRASS. I hadn't drop[ped, and every contact was like OMG!!!! If you ever see video, I'm smiling like I won the lottery everytime I look up. I think I'll always remember that.

Today I played really bad. Really bad. I was bummed becuase vasek is so good, and everyone else is busting, and I feel liek a lot of the time people think I'm better than I am. Jeremy thinks I'm 7th in the world. I can't even fathom that. Like, maybe... but I have so many bad sessions I dont feel like I am. I wonder about people like toni and shit, they are probably busting ridic. What about juho? These guys are certainly as good as me. Right?

So I played and got through it and that was ok. then I showered and hung around and stitched a bit. My bags are super nice when they are done, but then something on them breaks I guess. Idk, I shred with one basically full time now. It's cool to actually rip with your own bag.

I watched this thing on TV where they would go online and get child predators to come to thsi house and then bust them. It was mind boggling. I felt so bad for these guys man. But then I dont cuz theyre banging little chicks. Idk man. Like, what if thats what your into? Like we dont yell at kids who have ADD ya know? But yet we jail people who might have some mental problem and like little girls. Idk, thats a weird topic. Anyway, they're in jail now. So go back on MSN messenger little pup, you'll be ok.

I walk around in the climacools a lot now. They look girly, but so does my petticure. Id like to mod them, but they look too clean to butcher. Maybe I'll get the balls to do it sometime. The toe box sucks though.

I wish people put out more footage online. Not of me, but of like, cool kids. Like Jason Crook. That guy was the shit. And like, isn't Byrin part machine now? Idk man, kids be skoolin!!!!!! Oh and D. Vandall footage. I'd give up my lavers for some footy of that kid.

East Coasts this weekend. Not sure if I'm stoked. Kinda am. Ive been to so much shit latley man. Like, every weekend I'm playing. And when you do that it makes you feel like your just like, redoing the same shit over and over. I want to play on my own and learn new shit. I kinda did that today, but its not solid enough to do at the actual tournament. Oh well. Maybe my shred 30 will finally go as planned.

Hey if youve read the book fast food nation tell me how it was.

Have a nice night gangstars.

David, I haven't been playing footbag nearly as long as you. But I have one observation I'd like to share with you.

Freestyle footbag has an outer game. Drills. Skills. Runs. Routines. Tricks. Combos. Everything you can see, hear and touch.

Freestyle footbag ALSO has an inner game. What you think. How you think. What you feel. How you feel. Feelings are both body sensations, and internal meta-feelings like joy, exhiliration, confusion, pride, accomplishment, love, and so on.

Inner and outer game are inter-related parts of footbag. Both are important. Both affect the way you play. Think about it. Why do people quit? 1) They get injured. Their body is so damaged they can no longer play. That's outer game 2) They give up. They lose interest. They no longer enjoy footbag. Some people never progress past tiltless or guiltless but play footbag for years and years. That's inner game.

Your outer game is good. We all know this. How good? It be can be quantified a number of different ways, comparing you to other players. You act like you're overrated. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. That's subjective. How much does that matter to you?

I'm not in a position to speculate too much about your inner game. I know you have the drive to practice for hours every day, or at least almost every day. But I see other things that seem self deprecating and self doubting. These aspects of your inner game can hurt your outer game.

Be aware of the way you talk to yourself. Be aware of the way you talk about yourself. Stay positive. Think positive. The past is the past. Your future has infinite possibilities. Think about where you want to go. You can get there. It's the journey and the destination. Enjoy it.

Fast Food Nation was a trip.

I was more moved and turned off of McD's by it than I was by Supersize Me. Supersize Me just basically said it makes you fat, well obvi!

The book goes into depth showing you all the places where fast food fucks everything up.

Again it all comes down to greed, which is SO lame.

David is the best.
