Second Annual ShrEdmonton Freestyle Footbag Tournament

Post by SlashC »

Surprise@!

You like ShrEdmonton? ShrEdmonton IN YOUR FACE! It's like shred, shred shred, shred shred.

I've booked the indoor venues and there's just a couple of details to finalize. Check back once and a while for updates. Here's the info that you're looking for:

ShrEdmonton Freestyle Assembly 2006

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Date: July 21-23, 2006

Competition: Shred 30, Sick 3, and informal Big Trick. (possibly routines if people will prepare stuff...I've been dieing to unveil my pokemon routine)

Venues:

Friday Evening -> YMCA footbag studio

Sat/Sun Indoor -> Citadel Theatre - The David Bentley Multipurpose Room.

This room is literally everything we could have hoped for in a venue. It's a large, well-lit room with windows, plenty of overhead clearance, carpeted floors, funky mirrors, and big enough for at least 30 or 40 shredders. Check out last years VIDEO to see a glimpse of this delightful venue. This year the "Taste of Edmonton Festival" is being held right outside the citadel in churchill square. I hope you like food.

Accommodations : Hopefully we'll be able to put everyone up. *If* we fill up, I know a couple of cheap hotels where you can hop on the good foot and do the bad thing.

Music: DJ BryZe will be spinning some house, breaks, and trance for the Saturday shred, and maybe the Sunday as well. He's a good DJ folks, he knows his stuff. *NEWSFLASH* Spit'N'Shuv AKA Andrew T. Grant will also be spinning some phat drum and bass. Don't miss out on this fantastic vacation opportunity.

Dinner on Friday Night: A freestyler gathering on opening night, will be held at Red Robins (west edmonton location). Oh.. and Red Robin's is sponsoring us a bunch of gift certificates. So expect a healthy portion of your healthy meal to be covered.

Elements yet to be Finalized:

Outdoor Venue: Like I said above, there's a large food tasting festival going on during the same weekend, so we may not be able to kick @ City Hall. We're going to talk to the City to look at that possibility, but aside from that, we have a few other nearby locations in mind. Namely, the Alberta Legislature Grounds...a great area a number of blocks away. There's a big wading pool, a fountain, tons of open space on both grass and cement, and lots of stairs of varying heights for trials/street. If it's really nice out, there will literally be hundreds or people there, if not thousands throughout the course of the day.

Check out some pictures: Legislature, City Hall

T-shirts: I'll whip something up.
Sponsorship: We already have 2 sponsors and we've got some good leads on more. We're looking into the possibility of providing, water to the players, beer for the party, a discount at the players' dinner...etc.
Players' packs: Again, this will be based upon the amount of sponsorship we receive.
Web Site: Working on it. It will have additional information any player might need, like maps to the venue, which bus to take, some Albertan phrases to help you get by in this strange town, etc.
Players' Party: We're still trying to decide whose house to have the party at. Expect craziness in the order of last year. Gogo drunken air shred!

ALSO:
Please POST IF YOU'RE COMING so that we can set you up with crash space or accommodations.

Check out last year's tournament VIDEO to see how much fun there is to be had.

DIRECTIONS/ADDRESSES

Please give me a call when you get into town on friday for precise instructions to accomplish the mission. My cell number is 780-668-3224 (668-FBAG!). We will most likely be all chilling at Kevin's place.

Directions to Kevin's Place and YMCA:
So, if you're coming from the South...you'll be travelling via Highway 2. Once you approach Edmonton, Highway 2 will "remain as Highway 2", but will change names (Gateway Blvd, Calgary Trail). Don't worry about it, just stay on it until you hit Whitemud.

Travel West on Whitemud. If you're going to the YMCA, take a left at 178 street, go south a few blocks, and you'll see it on your right hand side.

If you're going to my house, take the 159 street exit. Travel North on 159th, then take a left at 87 ave (towards the Hospital). Your best bet is to park in the ESSO on 165st and 87ave, and the give me a call at (780)-868-2555. It's way too difficult to give you specific directions to my house.

The scene in Saskatoon is about the same. Unfortunately, a lot of my posse is away for the summer so I`m going to have to kick all by myself.....beside the liquor store in hopes for spare change to support my rock star lifestyle.

Hey Micheal,

Why don't you come back to Canada for it?

PS I'm think I'm gonna try to make it to this, although I haven't played much lately...
