First half over of the Italy-Ghana match.
10 corners for Italy, that's pretty much. About Dyalan's comment that Italy's defending would be just fouling - I don't know, did Ghana get a single freekick there?

Anyways, although the Italy's defence was really tight, it was nice to see Ghana's forwards bringing the ball up that often. Too bad they didn't score, the shots were quite horrible.

1-0 for Italy, hope that Ghana will equalize. If it'll be just 45 minutes of passing the ball and hitting the head against Italy's defence, I'll go to sleep. :)

(VERY off-topic: a Finnish student has got the trademark for some smileys, including ": )" and ":-)". These smileys are about 20 years old, I'm not sure if the guy was even born back then. :D)

wow usa got owned hehe, happy about englands win but pissed off at the way we played, and at the terrible desicions sven made i am seriously football crazy watching almost every game! what a crazy game for austrailia!! those czech republic goals were pretty sweet but sad about poland

(im sort of backing them, but not as much as england!) what a great sport football is..

Yeah whoot. The Australia game was so awesome. I'm so glad I'm not Japanese - dude your world cup is over. Take that Japan. Seriously I was stoked. Japan's goal was dodgy too and I was so disapointed up to the first goal. Then I was still a bit disapointed because for either team to get to the next round they really needed to win this game and Japan and Australia are the two teams I'm going for the most. Luckily Cahill is a fucking champion. The second goal was awesome. I think we have an ok chance of making the second round now although our first game in that round will be tough (presuming Brazil qualify first) - either Italy or the Czech Republic. I fell asleep during the Italy game (at about 5:30 am) so missed it but the Czech republic were the best team I've seen play so far. Argintina looked fairly good as well. Of course we'll see how brazil goes tonight/tomorrow morning.

I'll admit Italy's defence was really good. They have really improved, but I stand by the fact that their reputation as good defenders was previously unfounded and based more on fouls than actual defence. I was also really glad to see that Italy still looked for goals in the second half - they may well live up to their reputations and prove me wrong, but I'll always dislike them for the style of football they popularised even thought they seem to be finally improving upon it - it'll be interesting to see how they go against more potent opponents, I expect they'll easily get to the next round with the Czechs but the Czech Italy game will be very interesting.
Actually alot of teams have really surprised me, and now I'm favoring the Czechs and Argentinians to get to the semis and possinly all the way. The DUtch were a different to team to that which played Australia, but I'm still unconvinced thay can go all the way. The Netherlands v Ivory Coast game will be absolutely awesome, and will decide who gets out of that group with Argentina. Brazil still to come, I think the Croats have a good chance, but think Brazil will easily beat Australia and Japan. Speaking of which, I'm just sobering up after our first world cup victory

. It was so awesome. Both teams defended pretty poorly but I think we deserved the win. Cahil is really good and definitely made a big difference, but I actually think that bringing on Aloisi turned the game. He's a proven goalscorer at the International level, whereas Viduka just doesn't produce goals (not even double figures - I think he's scored in less than a quarter of his international matches). Viduka did create alot of excelent chances and held the ball up really well but seemed to tire a little as the game wore on, but when Aloisi came on, he provided the same type of target in and around the box, but is just a little bit more mobile and has that something that gets goals. Also really interested to see the French in action. <edit> France and Brazil could join the Argentinians and the Czechs as real contenders or might slot in with the bunch of teams close behind like Netherlands, Germany, England, Ivory Coast. </edit>

I just think that you should support the community with which you identify with both with your presence and your sporting allegiance, when my chosen country needs my support I don't think twice, and if I ever came to love another country more than Australia I would do whatever I could to move there. Anyway, back to the World Cup.
France didn't over impress me, I think having Zidane in the middle pushes Henry further forward, and he's more dangerous when he picks up the ball a little earlier, rather than when he gets it in or around the box.
Brazil also didn't quite live up to the hype for me. They played quite well, and defended well in patches, showing pace, patience and timing, but for the most part their defence was poor and they were lucky to get away with so few yellow cards considering the foul count. I assume they will improve though and I think Ednilson would have solved alot of their defensive problems preventing the need to commit alot of those fouls. Croatia looked really good at times but didn't seem to believe they could score, often opting for long range attempts rather than holding the ball up and working towards creating more solid chances. It definitly looks like Crotaia and Brazil will be the teams to get out of this group, but stranger things have happened, and who know what Huus is masterminding for Australia?

post from psp...i think croatia played really well from what i saw...today spain vs. ukraine should be good, im looking forward to seeing spain play...saudi arabia vs. tunisia should also be an interesting match, im pulling for tunisia in this one...and in the last game of the day poland will meet against germany, im really pulling for poland here, we need to get at least one point out of this game, if we still want to have a chance, but a win would be ideal...even though thats going be to hard since...

I'd still add Brazil to this list.
To me it looked like they weren't really into playing, they were playing lazily. It was obvious that they had a lot of potential there but they just didn't care to show it. Ronaldo was a disappointment - he didn't play himself to free places to wait for a pass, didn't ask for the ball and didn't come down to get it himself. Substituting Robinho in made it immediately a much more interesting game.
Besides, Croatia played really well. Defence was solid (Ronaldo and Adriano were like almost invisible on the pitch, they couldn't actually do anything) and they had many chances to score: it all seemed to go amazingly well until they reached the penalty box, but then, just like Dyalan said, "they didn't seem to believe they could score".
Ronaldinho's passes were intercepted well.

Yeah, Brazil didn't seem to care much about the game. Kaká's goal was just a "man's got to do what man's got to do" -thing, winning the game with the least possible amount of attacking energy wasted. It was an awesome shot, a real flash of the skills they have. The rest of the time they were just passing the ball.

Maybe the result and Croatia's good strategy had something to do with the fact that the Brazilian coach had "published" his starting line-up like a month before the match, way earlier than they would have had to?

And, Croatia is a great football country.

This year the Swedes have already won for Christ's sake gold in ice-hockey in the Olympic games (Finland came second), gold in the ice-hockey World Championships (Finland came second AGAIN) and gold in the floorball World Championships (GUESS WHAT, FINLAND CAME SECOND GOD DAMN IT). Plus, Niklas Kronwall, one of the ice-hockey world and Olympic champions, won the Elitserien (Swedish ice-hockey league) too and scratched 1 million Swedish crowns from a God damn lottery ticket!!!

THEY DON'T DESERVE TO WIN ANYTHING ANYMORE. They've used all their luck. I need to believe so.

At least we won the Eurovision, the saddest event there is.

Ukraine got destroyed in the match against Spain! I didn't think the result would be that bad (4-0)! Anyway, I agree with everyone else that the Czech have been amazing so far! Unfortunately though, Jan Koller has been ruled out of the first round matches because of a thigh injury...I don't know how much that's gonna affect how the team plays, but I'm pretty sure that the Czech are gonna make it into at least the quarterfinals or semifinals.

The Brazil game was great in the first half, but the second half didn't seem as exciting as the first one. I was disappointed in the way Ronaldo played; he was walking so much and the commentators pointed that out several times, and when he was substituted, the crowd was booing him. That was disappointing. Ronaldinho played pretty well and almost got a goal in the second half but his header was stopped by the Croatian keeper. Kaka, after scoring his goal, got more confident and had like 2 or 3 more good shots on goal. Overall, this match was a good one, I thought. Croatia played really well too and it's unfortunate that they gave away the goal late in the first half.
