half time germany-poland , germany should score soon and are poised for another win, poland have ahad a few chances, but not enough! i am polish and they are second to england, i really hope poland win!boruc has made some key saves, but i would be very suprised if germany lose, although a tie is a definite possibility

If there was a modified n00b award I would nominate you Alex. Hilarious. What would modified be without people not using their brains and getting into fights over misunderstandings on completely irrelevant topics that have no relation to footbag.

Just to clear this up for anybody else - all those comments about Japan were a joke. My father was japanese, half my extended family is japanese and I definitely consider myself Australian and Japanese. That said, I was stoked Australia won.

I have to say regarding Dyalan's comments that while I appreciate his sentiment - I'm really not a fan of nationalism at all. I go for Australia in Sport but I definitely refuse to "support our troops" in war unless it's a war we are forced into. I think nationalism is something that should be avoided and if somebody expresses to me a non-nationalistic view (like going for England in this world cup) although I might disagree with them specifically I congratulate their lack of nationalism. Also if the world cup final ends up being Australia Vs Ivory Coast - or another country that has been so brutally exploited by the west over the years then I would probably go for them over Australia.

Anyway managed to stay up last night and watch Germany play - still don't think they look very good. I fell asleep during the game though but woke up just in time for the goal

Spain look good - I would love to see them win the cup. Also I thought Brazil looked a bit apathetic and hopefully they'll get into a better mental state by the 2nd round. I was going to say by the next game, but actually I hope they go into the Australian game with no focus at all

Germany - Poland 1:0

Quite a good tourney for the german team up to now.

First game a lot of goals, and the second game brought a good feeling for the defense.
The most important psychologic thing is that Germany was able to control Poland the last ten minutes and turn this game into a win.

First of all I really thought we will have some problems in our preliminaries.

Glat that Germany is through now.

I was quite surorised to read that many of you think that Germany is one of the favourites.

Well, we don't have Bild or any other German press here, so we haven't read that much "down with Klinsmann" stories.

That's why we believe Germany's one of the favorites.

Like you said it was more defending in this game. Ballack stayed there in the midfield, didn't really attack that much. If Jeremy thinks Cahill is a champion, I say Philipp Lahm is another one! First half awesome, defended well although he's probably not the 'tackler-type' and is quite small but especially brought the ball up many times. Second half he was well-kept by the Poles, Germany's came from the right.
Nice substitutes by Klinsmann, Odonkor brought speed although he didn't have enough tricks to get through if the Poles were in front of him. And Neuville scored.

Was it so that the second qualifier from Germany's group will play against the first qualifier of the Brazil's group? If that's so, Neuville's goal was even more important.

If ecuador ties with germany then ecuador wins group A which means it will most likely be england vs germany in round 2. Of course, thats not considering any upsets. I would love to see triniad and tobago beat england right now. I can't believe they renamed the mars candy bar to 'believe' for the english team.

wahh i was so pissed off after germany-poland! but the motherland played today..and won

although england played really badly thank god that we won! now sven needs to do something. we need to change our formation to 4-5-1 with crouch up front and rooney jujst behind him, even if crouch was bad, and then we sub lennon in later, for a middie like cole or something and TAKE OUT OWEN! he is playing so terribly it makes me sad, he just isnt fit at all, but rooney looked very sharp and quick...sven seems to be in a pickle and i think that's the best way out, also me and my bro are splitting the price on an official world cup ball..set me back like 65 dollars! lol but its more of a keepsake i suppose. now paraguay and sweden r playing and i really hope they tie, cuz then england finish top!

I just read why the people in the US aren't interested in soccer. It's because they didn't invent it themselves.

There was also an interesting theory why men play better football than women: it's because boys understand nothing about team-playing. Girls do, they follow the rules and are being nicely there were the coach wants them to. Boys want the ball for themselves, go kick it, head it, tackle it etc.
Then, when the boys turn 15 or something, they start to realize that there are 10 other players on the pitch who are in the same team.
The girls have known this all the time, but at this point boys' skills are better than girls', because they've been going for the ball all by themselves whenever they can.

Geez, really?I just played with Penske and Lon over the weekend, and I thought they were pretty entertaining. Then again, no Americans have gotten into BAP since 2002, so maybe you have a point...

Yeah, I totaly agree. They just had to invite their own sport and call that football instead. And you hold the ball in your hands in that game!! WTF?!

All semantics and ridiculosity set aside, I just watched my first ever World Cup game on the television... Ivory Coast vs. The Netherlands. It was very exciting - I'm very excited to watch the Italy/USA game tomorrow, and perhaps France's game tomorrow night as well. I've never been much of a football fan, but I am pretty pumped for tomorrow's games. I haven't even really decided who to go for yet, so I'll probably just enjoy the game(s).
