PS Whirls HURT!

Post by sen »

I think this is kinda a pointless thread, but I just wanted to point out that PS Whirls really hurt.

I skooled them on Monday and finally was able to hit them. Then I tried for Ducking PS Whirl and eventually hit it. But it didn't come with out pain! The muscles right below my butt on my dexing (and landing) leg really hurt. It hurts to walk!

To make this thread someone useful I'll ask a few questions now:

Do you think I just had bad form and that caused the pain?

Am I just not ready to hit this move?

What should I do to recover from this?

Only one side is sore because I'm a one-sided kinda guy. I'm working to fix that . . . but . . .

Anyways, I can barely whirl on my flip side. :?

I should grab a multivitamin.

Anything other than tuna?? I HATE tuna.

it's so easy to prepare tuna.. just open a can
umm, anything high in protien [like meat], but that usually requires preparation.. or u could have a lot of milk if u can stomach the stuff

Id say:

practice on a soft surface for ps whirls, maybe grass? This goes for any really hard-landing move.

practice same side symp whirls done all downtime.
The key is to end with your body balanced and your knee NOT in a locked position.

Your knee has to be slightly bent and you have to bend it more as you hit the ground in order to cushion your landing. Eventually, your quads will get strong enough so that it doesn't feel like you are going to crumble to the ground every time you try one.

The first thing you should do is stop doing ps whirls for a few weeks. It sounds like one of your hip extensors. Could be your glute max, but since you said it's below your butt, it's probably your hamstrings. I'd do some hamstring stretches and some exercises to strengthen them.

You can use the time to skool your flipside whirls.

Thanks Brad, and I had already decided to to that anyways. :)

Jeremy, I was playing on the softest surface I play on (Really well padded carpet). Also I was bending my support leg, but I think that's what caused it. It wasn't really a concious effort to cushion myself it just happened as I landed. :?

I learned Symp Mirage this week and I've been experiencing the same pain in the back of my upper legs. It's definitely muscle soreness, no joint soreness. Are these muscles that get stronger as you do more of these? I've been eating plenty of protein (rice and beans, fuck tuna). Any good stretches for these muscles?

Yeah, PS Whirls hurt like a mother when you learn them. It's definately because you don't have the right muscles to do them. As time goes by, you develop more, and they stop hurting.

The concern is that agro corps often make chocolate milk out of milk that would normally not pass simple visual inspection. It may be milk that has cow blood or pus in it because that cow that was milked is injured or sick. However you add chocolate syrup and PRESTO no one can tell.

If you like chocolate milk your best bet is to buy ORGANIC milk and add chocolate syrup or powder to it at home.

Anyway back on topic...

I was thinking today. It may actually be the symposium JUMP that causes the soreness, not just the landing. When I was 10 I played soccer goalie and was quite obsessed with working on my vertical leap. One thing you do is jump off stairs and absorb the landing with you legs. It made my leg muscles sore as shit, by vertical leap got GOOD!

So right now I am just eating a lot of protein-y type foods and resting. Symp is a lot of fun. It's new muscles that I rarely use. Now I just gotta learn whirl so I can work on symp whirl :)

It is also very important to ensure that your toes are pointing in the same direction as your knee. Never overwork ps whirls for this will increase the risk of a repetitive strain injury occuring. As Lon sais only work these on days when you feel light on your feet. IF you get injured the result IS permanent! I practiced these alot in the grass, but that can be dangerous if the groung is unlevel. I highly reccomend shred mats.
