In kendo (japanese fencing) we would always use our kia (sp?) at the moment of our attack. It was like stomp and yell and strike all at the same time. I always thought it was more of a pyschological effect.

In the Japanese martial arts the kiai is slightly important. I knew about his existence in the karate, but also he was thinking that it had a psychological effect.
But in Kiai Jutsu, one works with the Ki. In the video it is seen as they do exercises to work the Hara, which is the energy center of the body, and which is under the bellybutton.
Miyamoto Mushasi, was saying in the book of 5 rings, that the kiai, even could go so far as to kill a person.
I had seen videos of Thai Chi Chuang, quite impressive, in which an elder projects a young man to several meters ... but the demonstration of the bell is completely impressive.
The work with the Ki, seems slightly incredible. I ask myself if this might take the footbag
