France didn't tie because of the bad refereeing (?), although it missed a couple of scoring chances because of it. France tied because they played badly.

Today's a quiet football day, Togo-Switzerland and Ukraine vs some country don't sound very glorious. I'll probably watch the Spain vs Tunisia, I missed the Spain's first game and they seem to be ON FIRE!

I agree with you. As I said, the reason I think France drew was because they only played well during the first ten minutes. Then they all stepped backward and took a more defensive position.
My rant about referees was aimed at football in general, not yesterday's game particularly.
Since the beginning of the world cup, there have been at least a dozen bad referee decisions that could/would have changed the final result, and most of them could have been avoided with video refereeing.

edit : Ah, Finally a daring referee! i.e the penalty for Spain against Tunisia

Yay, the second round, England v Sweden 1:2, T&T: Paraguay 0:0, England with Wayne Ugly and Iwearmywifesundies Beckham goes home for sure! I would really like to see Trinidad go to the next round, they've shown nice games, with no respect for the opponent

I used to think Beckham was the world's most over-appreciated footballer who could do nothing but nice freekicks, but now I my thoughts are the opposite. He's a good player with great freekicks, still not a star player in my eyes though.

Are there 4 games or what today? The broadcasting times were all messed-up from the regular in the newspaper...England vs Sweden is the big game today but probably very boring: there'll hardly be a parade of goals. (England has scored 3 times (? -> Paraguay's own goal, Crouch's and Gerrard's goals - did I miss some?) and Sweden once in this tournament.)

you cant judge Ronaldos stardom based on his performance NOW, he was a star even before the last world cup...he just looks tired now, he used to be AWESOME at shaking players right outside the box, his ball control was great.

...its sucks watch soccer in english, some gringos dont know how to do commentary for soccer, its so... emotionless and bland, I dunno, its nothing like watching it in spanish, but the reception in my basement sucks.

edit- American english that is....Eric Idle's narration for germany vs greece was sweet.

Are you sure you're talking about the same Ronaldo? Christiano Ronaldo plays for Portugal and the other Ronaldo for Brazil.

Holy shit it'll be Germany vs Sweden in the second round!

Please, Germany, please don't lose that game...

I've got nothing against Sweden as country, I just can't stand them winning everything. And they always score the winning goal / equalizer in the last minutes, it's unbearable.

Waiting for the Holland vs Argentina tonight, I'm sure there'll be lots of goals.

(I've actually promised to move to the forest for three years if Sweden wins the World Cup.

Australia made it! The most ridiculous game I've seen in a long time, 2 clear penalties not awarded, a croat player receives 2 yellow cards but not a red, then receives a third yellow?! That referee should be fired, there should also be some sort of ceremony specifically designed to humiliate him further. Can't wait to see how Huus attempts to deal with Italy, it'll be a real tactician's game with two of the best in Huus and Lippi going head to head, although you'd have to say Lippi has far more talent at his disposal, while Huus is the more creative strategist
The referee that Harry Kewell went mental at after the Aust v Brasil game also had another shocker in the Ghana v Usa game, he failed to control the game, he also gave a dubious penalty and missed alot of fouls. At least Ghaha won, the Ghana v Brasil game will be awesome.
I'm particularly glad to see the USA out after Bruce Arena singled out Australia as a weak team, and complained that the usa don't receive enough respect, in a press conference a couple of weeks ago. Apparantly a free ride into the finals every 4 years through a ridiculously easy qualification route isn't enough for him. Looks like the little respect they get is just the right amount - their equal top scorer from the tournament plays for Italy

Yeah the Australia game was awesome though. I thought the referreeing added to the drama. Also regardless of that we should have won anyway. Bring back Swartzer and dump that other guy to the a-league

. I wonder if that Croat is the first person in a world cup game to get 3 yellow cards. I would be proud of that.

Bruce Arena annoyed me with his comment about Australia being a weak team as well. I wish we got to play the US. If we only had to beat Venzuala to get into the world cup we would probably be there more often too.

My hate for this world cup has been growing bit-by-bit from every game i watch. All because of the fucking refs. They make ridiculous calls ... and I'm not even going to mention all the yellow cards. Can they give anymore out?
