Very lame - that game was one of the most boring games of the world cup. Neither side looked like scoring for the entire 2 hours and even at the start of the penalty shoot out they still didn't look like scoring.

Re: Australia - Yeah it was so heartbreaking. I was at a cinema watching the game and there was such an optimistic mood until then. Had the game been 20 seconds shorter and gone to extra time I think we would have won. Still it's hard to be too disappointed considering how well we did - I mean we looked competative against every team we played and we showed a lot of heart. It sucks to go out in such a manner - it would have been so much better to lose from a genuine goal. Still I disagree that we outplayed Italy - they looked way more dangerous infront of goal and their defence was awesome. Even with man down they looked like the better team - the fact that we had more of the ball doesn't really mean we were a better team. I think we needed to bring on Aloisi early and definitely should have brought on Kenneddy too. I guess Guus thought it would go to extra time and he'd try to win the game then? Big blow having Kewell out too. But big props to the Australian team for doing so well anyway.

I really don't agree. From a tactical point of view this game was very interesting. There was no real favorite in this match so no team was going to dominate the other. Ukrain decided to play it safe by only counting on counter-attacks (which is why Shevshenko rarely got the ball). The swiss on the other hand had a watertight defense and played a very constructive game.

These weren't two super-star-of-soccer teams so I wasn't expecting any blind passes, zoid passes, half / full voleys etc.

Anyway, I enjoyed myself. [/i]

Yeh i was so dirty about the Aussie result. The Italians probably had the better skills as the few attempts that they did have against our goal were looking pretty aggressive, and our shots on goal were so few and far between. We didnt put Buffon under enough pressure at all. We played well in the fact that we kept the ball away from them so much, and our midfield did a good job of keeping them clear of the goal box for much of the match.

Really it was the worst way to go out, considering the fucked up penalty call in the first place. I mean, to use an Aussie saying, 'you wouldnt fuckin' read about it'; we played so well the whole game and definitely deserved the win, and then we have it taken unjustly from us in the last 30 seconds, how does that happen?

I really wanted Australia to win, but to be honest that red card on the Italian defender never should have been given. It was a bad foul but he had no yellows and an automatic red was uncalled for. So I guess they got a good break and then a bad one at the end.

I feel sorry for Australia, that really was a disgrace!
That really was a judicial murder.
Neill was lying there for like, what, two seconds when Grosso fell down. I mean, if he'd been lying there for the whole 90 minutes plus the extra time and someone would have stepped on him, had there still been a penalty? :x

About the Portugal vs Holland match: people are saying that Ivanov will hardly be a referee again in this World Cup after giving 16 yellow cards. Yes, just because he showed the card sixteen times. In my opinion at least 95% of it was deserved and the rest I can accept too - usually a yellow card cools the players a bit, although in this match it (obviously) didn't work.
There really was heat on the pitch, too bad the energy wasn't put on playing football but stupid fouling.
I would have enjoyed the young team of Holland get to the quarterfinals.

Brazil - Ghana in 10 minutes, hope to see some samba but happy footballers from Ghana too. :)

I don't understand why the second goal in Brazil-Ghana wasn't offsides.

Oh OK. That's what my dad said, but it wasn't clear from the angle they replayed it. Thanks for the clarification.

Poor Ghana. A co-worker of mine is from Ghana, and he was glad that they performed well and got this far.

Brazil - Ghana was really a pleasant game to watch. Brazil needs to tighten up those defenses though for games to come. Ghanas goalie was totaly on fire!

France - Spain is interesting too (1-1 atm), both teams giving all they got.
