I am a 37 year old old school kicker. I got my start around 1984 and played for 8 years. Tonight my 12 Year old daughter asked me what I was doing in those photos she found in our closet of me in some competitions back in the 80's. I explained to her that was a footbag or what most people know as Hacky Sack and I was a pic of me and my favorite bad a 32 panel Kanga. She still did not get it so I thought I wonder if the old man still has it. So I went online tonight and could not believe the amount of info and places to buy bags now. I use to drive to Hershey, Pa and get them from a store called Funtasik's. Anyhow I just placed a order with Flying Clipper for Footpet Footbag and a DirtBag. I cant wait to see if I still can do it and I hope to be able to get my daughter into it as well.

Thanks I had no idea what bag to start with now but I always remembered Kenny Shults talking about the Dirtbag so I thought it would be a good "get back the feel" kind of bag. I was one of those ones who use to get pissed when everyone called everybag a "Hacky Sack" I dont know why i guess its like people ask for a Kleenex instead of a tissue but I always wanted each brand of ba i had to be known for it. I guess that was just me being old.

that's like saying band-aids instead of medical gauze pads, roller-blades instead of in-line skates, ummmm...i cant think of any others on teh top of my head...

ya, but great story, i hope you'll still have some of that old magic, but i doubt it because of 20 years of rust (keep trying anyway)

Q-Tip instead of Cotton Swab, Kleenex instead of Tissue and I think the old magic will come back with some practice

Thanks, the sport is so much different than it was back in the mid 80's but i look at it as a challenge. And most of all to teach my daughter the fun sport of Footbag.

Exactly, to me thats one of the things i think footbag should be about, if you need any help with anything, bags, tips anything let me know, ide be glad to help someone with a purpse like yours! getting people (like your daughter) into the sport is an awesome thing!

I am getting ready to post a story tonight or on Monday about today..its kinda of funny about me trying to get back into the footbag world compared to what I was use to and how my wife and daughter brought me back to earth. Thanks for the support, I know on some boards n00bs dont always get a warm welcome

Things were a lot different in the mid 80's when i first started playing. Where I lived the first exposure you got was with a Hacky Sack so for the longest time you just played in a circle and if you could do a stall or make a great save you were doing great! in fact if you kept the bag too long you were a bag hag... then when Funtastiks opened up in 87 I got to learn to to Joe and Barbra Solonoski who taught me about net play and that a Hacky Sack was a brand of footbag not the gmae itself. Between them and The Flying Clipper I bought different bags that amazed my friends but i became more of a outsider because when I would do a "solo" it was considered rude. I can remember the first bag I got that was made from Chamois and was so soft you could stall it the day you bought it. Well my friends were playing with it in a circle and tried to do a toe pick up with it and tore it. I had it less than than 1 hour. I also use to get the Footbag World Magazine(before the Internet) but the tricks of then just do not compare to what you guys can do today. Plus now you have stichers and know the weights of the bags...it has evolved so much you would not believe

welcome back man, youll be busting out in no time. I dont know if they had shoe lace mods back in the day, or if you already did that to your shoes, but it helps a lot.
