kldfjlaksdj's Blog thing

Post by kldfjlaksdj »

Or you can just say Steve's Blog thing :-P

Well, first things first. I'm Steve, I'm 18, and I first started with a bag about 4 or so years ago, when me and a big group of friends would hang out after school and kick the crocheted pellet "hack". I only recently became aware of the sport of "Freestyle Footbag" and I must say, you guys are kick ass, even those of you who enter the novice competition do stuff I am utterly amazed by.

Anyway, I learned very early on to do a Jester, because lets face it, we all know that its the cool thing to do in an after school circle. from then until about a month ago that is the only trick I have known. And I can only do it reliably do it one side (right behind left).

For the past month I have learned outside, inside, toe, and one sided clipper stalls (ironically the same side as my jesters are on). I must say, even though, its very noobish, its something I'm very proud of.

A couple weeks ago, I began dexing a little, and I have accomplished ATW's, Legovers, and butterflies not both sides, but I like to know them so that I have something I CAN do while I'm getting frustrated trying to learn all my stuff flipside :-)

As far as flipside, I have managed to get my flip clippers to be about 1/5 which is better than the 1/100 that I used to only be able to do.

Here's a little list of tricks I can do and the approximate percent I can hit them:

Toe Stall(flip and normal)= 99.9%
Inside Stall(flip and normal)= 99.9%
Outside Stall(flip and normal)= 95%
Clipper Stall= 90%
Clipper Stall(flip)= 20%
ATW(in>out)= 65%
ATW(out>in)= 25%
Flip ATW(either way)= 0%
Legover= 85% <---thats wierd because I can't really out > in dex an ATW to save my life. Is that normal?
Butterfly= 65%
Flip Butterfly= 45%

So thats my progress after a month or so, is that pretty good? or should i be farther along? I feel like I'm doing good, and all my non-freestyle friends, are impressed. Im just trying to get as good as I can.

If there's anything you all suggest trying to learn along with the flip stuff of above, feel free to let me know. I tried to learn mirages, but I cant get that last delay after the dex...oh well, i will continue work on it.

I use a Mr. Sandbag from Freedom as my bag, I ordered an Abshire bag today from there. Just as a thing to look foreward to when i get even better :-)

Well, this has been a long entry, so sorry for that. Thank you all for reading. I look foreward to entering much more in the future.

Feel free to leave comments in here if you like, i plan on updateing every couple of days. So yes, see you all later

Oh, one more thing. To all of you inquiring about how i came up with and remmeber my user name here's how:

about 5 years or so ago, i was for the first time signing up to make a yahoo account. I tried several different attempts, all were taken. so in my frustration, i randomly hit the keyboard on the home-row keys. and viola! kldfjlaksdj, it stuck and got lots of questions and i liked it, it was obviously very unique. As for remembering it, i think i just remember it because i have typed it hundred of thousand of times. i can do it without looking at my hands and i can do it in a fraction of a second :-P. so yeah, thats whats up with that.

Try mirages like you were saying. Illusions too, which is an opposite-way dex of mirage.

Pickup is a good beginner move too. It is an opposite dex as a legover. Consective legovers and pickups are fun and seem very successful once mastered on both sides. At least at first.

I think you are doing well for a month in.

First off, welcome!

I suggest doing drills. Doing drills that utilize both sides will not increase bothsideness, but they are also fun

For example...

Legover > legover

Pickup> Pickup

Think about the moves as though they were patterns, just like in juggling. Then just repeat the pattern...

Good luck.

Oh yeah, another great thing you can do, maybe the best thing, is to GO TO TOURNAMENTS!

Hello again

So yesterday, I played a little bit. My friend called and wanted to hang out, but he didn't get to come over. *shrug* oh well. He is only in the kicking stage right now, but he can do ATW sometimes, and its still fun to play with him cause he gets super excited and stuff even when I just do a little string of stalls so its cool, cause it gets me motivated.

Today I have to work, but i usually play during my break, unfortunately I have to wear pants at work and they are restricting, but what can ya do? I'm gonna make that 15 minutes worth it, and work on flip clippers.

And thats all for today, i will probably update later and play again.

thanx for reading

Good afternoon everyone!

So I haven't really Done a lot in the way of playing in the last 2 days, since I have been busy, but I did do a little bit here and there. I played for a few munutes in my bedroom, and I played outside during my break from work.

At home, I have just been doing lots of clippers since it seems that that is my worst area. I basically downloaded all the trick videos from flipsider, I have been watching them and putting them into slow motion and pauseing and moving the bar myself to learn visually every part of the move(clipper and mirage for now).

For some reason or another I am having the hardest time getting the bag onto the last delay for the mirage, I am getting the dex everytime, its just the final "closing deal" that I cant seem to hit.

Butterflies are getting wierd for me too, its hard for me to get the bag straight up and it just kind of shoots out to nothing, making it impossible for me to catch it in my hand. I found that practicing doing wraps( I think thats what it is) is helping me in the butterfly/clipper area.

My flip is barely coming together, I think the best thing coming out of it is toe, inside and outside delays, that and its the leg I have to set with for legover *shrug* I will just have to keep working it.

The wrap things I think helped with the crank of my ankle and keeping it flat, I'm gonna work on those flip and hopefully getting the crank with it will help with my flip clippers.

I was thinking about maybe trying to pull something together for that novice competition floating around, only problem is I have a sucky camera(digital still that takes really crappy videos). I figure, why not right? at least I will be able to see myself on film and perhaps get input from other people on how I'm doing. I guess we will see. I'm sure it wouldnt be the first time someone entered legover>ATW>butterfly into a novice competition. I just don't know when I'm supposed to send stuff in for each competition.

Well, I think I'm going to work on that little three-some, and hopefully dial it.

See you all later and thanks for reading.

-Steve

Goals:

-Get flip Clippers to at least 50% and link them to toe stalls
-Get flip Wraps to help with my ankle crank

Hello again and welcome to another installment if my nobbyish blog

Yesterday, I didn't do a lot as far as practicing. I figured out a good way to get my clippers good and what for me is a good warm up thing before I go into trying to learn. Inside>Clipper>Toe>Clipper Repeat.

After my little warm up today, I tried doing some usual stuff, learning my stalls better and whatnot, and I would try to learn mirages, 2 tries and I finally nailed it! I was very happy with myself, and I attempted stringing it with other stalls and stuff, but no luck, it doesn't really matter at this point now though, cause I gotta learn that baby flip now!

Thats all about my thing today though so yeah. I will post in a couple days again. Until then, see you later!

Feel free to comment as much as possible, I tried really hard to get my webcam just right so that it would show as much of me as possible. Unfortunately I live in a rather small apartment and theres not much in the way of space so bear with me.

Well, thank you for watching if you did, and please comment on them if you want. Happy shredding!

-Steve

Edit: If anyone knows a good place to host those for free...I would really like to know that place. Thank you!

Well, I played for a while today, and practiced my mirages and legovers. I'm hopeing to get all the stuff I know as good as I can flip, because only one side is making me feel like I wont be able to do anything. So flipside here I come!

Im gonna stop trying too much new stuff now too, so I can concentrate on flipside more. I think that will help.

GOALS:

-Learn everything flipside
-Stop concentrating on just hitting new stuff

Until next time, Happy shredding!

Hello Modified

Hope all your days were excellent!

Mine was alright. I practiced for a while today. Trying to get my flipside to work, but it seems that my left foot is just to lazy to turn and flatten out. I don't understand why it just wont flex, or flatten when I try to do clippers, it just kinda sits there. My leg moves and my foot just kinda flops around. Have you guys any ideas on how I might be able to get it to work? Because its sort of frustrating me, and getting me to the point where I figure I just cant do flipside. I do however refuse to quit. So I guess thats a plus.

A highlight of my day was doing Mirage>Lap Delay>Clipper. I must say I was happy with myself when I did it :-). I also cut out the inner layer of my shoes out, and now I can feel the bag a lot more.

I decided to create an account on YouTube for videos I record of myself. I will put that URL here in a second. My YouTube thing I have a skate video there of my friend and a little thing I was bored and decided to add on there.

I'm also considering getting into stitching. I'm probably gonna start on T-shirt stuff, because I simply cannot afford any better material. For filler I will just use the pellets from my old crocheted bags. Now, just to find a needle, some thread, and a pattern to stitch from.

Anyway, I will be ending this post now. So I will see you all the next time I post in this thing. Happy kicking!

For your clipper problems try to do an inside delay and then slowly wrap it around your support leg into clipper position. Do this lots and keep it slow and controlled. That can help develope the muscles to keep your clipper flat.

Hello Modified community

I havent really practiced lately, between work and work I havent really had a lot of time.

I have been trying to get my Flip Clippers still, and I have been hitting legover from my strong clipper so thats a little progress.

I honestly don't have much else to say. I didn't get to shred much the last few days. But I hope to get a few hours in this week.

Hope to post soon.

Good evening Modified!

I was unaware that it has been that long since I last said anything in this thing. So here I am, saying stuff in this thing.

Its been pretty hard to practice lately. Everyday here it has been 100 degrees and 80% humidity, or raining  and I have very limited space in my small apartment to actually make anything good come out.

I Managed to practice yesterday, and today. After a class placement test for college, I practiced for about 30 mins while I waited for my parents to pick me up. Nothing special happened, though it seems like my flipside is doomed forever, but I will keep working at it. That was yesterday.

Today, I only got about 15 mins of practice on my break from work. I couldn't get too sweaty cause that would be gross working on a register and dripping all over customers 8O. I worked on clipper to clipper on the same side, and i managed to hit 3 in a row :-) which made me feel special and like I'm actually improving a little bit.

So thats what I did. I'm gonna end this for now though, so I will talk to you sometime later I guess.

Have a great night all of you!

Well, Good Afternoon Modifieders!

Yesterday, I had one awesome session. I didn't really feel like drilling any individual tricks and I really didn't feel like practicing int he conventional way. Instead I just went out and played for a little over an hour and a half, and it felt damn good when I came inside and took a shower and was sore afterwords.

I linked a nice little kickless thing that I was proud of including a mirage and a clipper set mirage(clip>op in>op toe) in the middle of the string. I think my flip clippers are finally coming together, I just have to work on adding them to my strings. Also I want to add that I upped my same clipper count to 4.

So yes, that was possibly the most intense, exhausting, painful, sweaty hour and a half of my life and it was absolutely amazing!

That's all for now though. I will post tomorrow or in a few days again to add more progress to this blog. Talk to everyone later.

So instead of the tomorrow or the next few days I promised in my last post, I managed to make 4 days before I realized I should post something here :-P

I have worked a lot lately but I'm still kickin'. I started sewing bags, I made a nice 4 panel and now I have begun work on a 32 panel(after a failed 14 panel I tried). I want a few comments on it if its possible, tell me if my progress is worth finishing, or if I should go visit a hole and bury myself :-P

Those are pics of it so far, Lemme know what you think. Thanks much
