What bag do you use when you warm up?

Post by Jman9089 »

Alright so I have three bags that I play with, and all are pretty broken in. Recently they have become plagued with holes all over them. At the end of every session I have, I end up doing bag repairing. I think that my warm up kicking is what is weakening them, causing all these holes. I guess my question is do people usually warm up with their good bags, or do you buy something like a sandmaster or cuddle bage to kick during warm up and then after that bring out the more expensive 32 pannels for the actual drilling/shredding? (unless you are trying to break in a new 32p) Would doing this make my shred bags last a lot longer?

It would almost definitely make your bags last longer, but this also depends on what type of surface you are playing on. If it's concrete, then I wouldn't play with a 32 at all.

Less playing time with your 32 would obviously increase it's lifespan.

I have 3 Mr. Sandbags that I warm up with.

I warm up with a newer bag for it can break-in. Seeing as my newer Peng bag is almost broken-in now, I've been using one of my stitched bags.

i think surfaces you play on has less effect on the bags life as most of you...

i dont think concrete is bad for a bag... unless you land on your footbag.. but thats the same with any non-giving surface. like wood might be better, or mats or carpet...

but those last things i mentioned are better for your body/joints.

also, finger rolling, and pocket time will reduce a bags life.
(pocket time, like when you walk or whatev with a footbag in da pocket. it will rub like you were palm rolling a bag, which is very bad)

so i dont carry my best footbag around in tight cloths, or land on it, or finger it. just so i can keep it forever...

(ps, none of my bags have holes!)

Certain types of concrete can be very bad for a bag, I would think.

Like the kind they use in driveways - bad, it scrapes against the bag and could possibly increase the risk of wholes.

The stuff they use in basements - better, very smooth, won't produce as much friction against the bag.

I think the best surface (for a footbag) would be wrestling mats, or those mats that everybody was talking about a while back. It's also good for your joints. :P

I try not to carry my bags in my pockets, just finger rolling when trying to break it in.

Landing on bags would be VERY bad for it. That doesn't really need an explanation.

I usually play with the rolliest bag I have to get myself warmed up. This goes along with both broken-in and new footbags that I made, traded or bought.

There's no problem when finger rolling is done to a footbag as long as you have a good technique. Tom Mosher and Jeremy Mirken both have good tutorials on it and I found no problems. I think excessively hard kicking and large flyer kicks that go way above your head can be detrimental to a bag. A good example of this is to toss your bag at a pretty high height, and look at its bottom when it hits the ground. You'll notice a lot of small bright areas on the facile indicating that the fill inside induces pressure on the facile with the amount of impact you use on the bag. Too much impact will likely to cause a lot of holes to your bag.

Surface area is a likely factor, but it really depends on how much force is made when it drops to the ground. I usually play on concrete, but have not found any of my bags to get holes because of the surface area. That's not to say I play in places where a lot of broken glass shards are around, but rough surface areas aren't huge environmental factors that are detrimental to a bag's life. I believe stepping on them, toe-scrapes, and toe pickups are definitely very bad for a bag's longevity. Even rolling the bag onto your toe is very bad, as the soles of your shoes (especially for G-units) can be very grippy and rough for the bag (even if you're careful). And I agree with Brian with one thing that putting footbags in your pockets is very bad, as it can be pretty abrasive to the facile.

Really, just light kicking and picking the bag up with your hands is all you need to keep your bag living for a couple of months.
