so theyre both homophobes? fine....zidane screwed himself cause he cant take an insult, there was no drama there from matarazzi, that HURTS, what kept it going for 3 minutes is because Buffon saw it and wasnt gna let it go uncalled, HE went to speak with the line ref to do something about it. BOTH teams played long and hard, sucks for that dude to miss the pk, but thats how italy lost to brazil in 94, karma....or something. EVERYONE dives if they have a good chance to get a good free kick, thats just how the games is played now, thats how australia got screwed, I think maybe the only way to solve all the acting is to have a ref on the sideline watching replays ALL THE TIME and communicate with the head ref, its the only way to make fool proof calls. i'm not sure, but i dont think the line ref went to look at a replay, did he? I just know it isnt standard for soccer, its all about fooling the head ref, like when they have to go move the player wall back for free kicks, as soon as the ref turns his back, they creep up again.

yeah yeah opinions are like assholes......

Yeah, if anyone really takes that as the truth about what happened, he should go to fix his media criticism.
I don't believe anyone else than Materazzi, Zidane and maybe some of their team mates know how the conversation really went. Zidane's reaction was unacceptable and immature. He should have just went and scored a goal or something instead.

In my honest opinion RACISM SUCKS. Everytime I hear stories like the ones from La Liga, where the fans of the opposite team imitate apes everytime Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o is on the pitch (even though there are black players in their own team too), I want to puke. It's disgusting.
Considering this I was very happy seeing the football fans from all over the world celebrating with each other in Germany.

Plus, I've heard that players, for example Thierry Henry, make a lot of anti-racism work.

I didn't like the 'Mortal Kombat meets Zizou" one bit. Some respect, please. (If that was supposed to show someone's respect towards Zidane, holy crap it was stupidly done.)

About the video replays.
Yes, using them would be a rational thing to do.
But still I'm against it. Football is one thing where I appreciate conservatism. Many sports have almost been destroyed by the changes in the rules. Football is a concept that has been working for about a hundred years with these rules and there's been no signs it wouldn't work in the future. If the referee doesn't always see the fouls and dives, it's 100% sure that the fans see it and WILL remember it.
Besides, does someone really think video replay would be the key to make a dive-, foul- and protest free football? Have you ever watched ice-hockey?
The referee already is the highest authority there. If you want a cleaner game, you need to tighten the punishments. Valentin Ivanov really did this - the Dutch and Portuguese players had obviously forgotten that they aren't the ones who rule on the pitch. 16 yellows weren't his fault, it was the players'.
I became furious when I read Sepp Blatter's comments that "Ivanov should have given himself a yellow card too". Great support, idiot!

There should be a card every time you dive and cards easier for things that feel to be little but aren't: protesting, the wall moving closer and closer to the ball although referee had already showed them the right position, time wasting etc.

When the day becomes when footballers have to wear more shields etc protecting pads to ensure their safety, football has lost.

I don't think video replays are the way to go - if you're going to have another official it would be way better to have him as a second field ref, rather than be at the mercy of the TV cameras/director.

I've lashed out once on the pitch and i wasn't even under a fraction of the pressure Zidane would have been under, and I only possess a fraction of his skill, but that doesn't have any bearing on what Zidane did or how it will affect his footbal legacy.
Like I said this sort of "mistake" is the difference between a skilled player like Zidane or Maradona, or Cantona, and the real greats who played with equal skill (or slightly less when you compare them to Maradona), but didn't make such "mistakes".

Marcelo Lippi who is the coach of italy used to be the coach at juventus. This is where zidane played the best football of his career.

Marcelo would know how great the skill of zidane is.

He would also know the weaknesses of zidane, and zidane has lashed out before as many great players do, Cantona, Roy Keane, Rooney (probably not so great but).

I heard that materazzi, who is a hack of a defender, called zidane a fucking terrorist. Zidanes family heritage lies in Algeria.

If you watch the video you could almost say that zidane was almost defending himself. Materazzi does charge at him at a fair pace and he has got a nut loose as we probably have all seen.

Zidane will always be mentioned in the same sentence as marradona, cryuff, platini, pele and materazzi will be mentioned in the same sentence as Rob Miller who plays for Queens Park Rangers in Division 2 in england.

Italy should have been knocked out in the second round by Australia anyway. But i suppose you got have a fucking shit load of luck to win the world cup.

Materazzi didn't comment what he said to Zidane, because a) it would be stupid to lie and b) revealing what he actually said would show what kind of an asshole he is. So he kept silent (although I heard he said the "dirty terrorist" talk wasn't true).
I also read Zidane is about to tell his version of it all in the next days but who knows. Whatever it is he'll say I think I'll trust it over whatever Materazzi will say.

Although Materazzi may be a dickhead, I didn't see Zidane's head butt as defending himself. Or as defending the Islamic world, like some of the reporters wanted to see it. Violence is intolerable in football, no matter how someone's provoking you.
What Zidane did was understandable but not acceptable.

My friend has said that some professional lip readers had noted what they said, and that they couldn't say it on tv (or that specific channel). I'm trying to find it online. Apparently, stuff was being said through out the game.

i heard the lip reader interview on the radio....she's almost certain she saw "terrorist" but she doesnt speak italian, and some things might idioms or certain dialects.... its unclear what that whole exchange was, but she and the translator are almost certain "terrorist" came out of matarazzis mouth.
