Again don't get me wrong, I love life as much as the next guy, in fact I bet I love it more. I just enjoy pointing out the folleys of peoples statements.
Instead of posting again I'd just like to point out the spam below me, everyone see the spam? Don't be like that, don't smoke pot, don't spam, don't whatever. But most importantly, don't spam.
And with how much you post I think you actually get high on SPAM. Alot of people here do lately.

Umm... Can we also add don't eat spam? That's just kinda sick...
My opinion has changed little. Try it once, just so you know what it's about. If you don't try it, fine, don't fucking bitch about it you conservitive religious right wing cock sucker. If you do, all people who smoke it should be able to watch you get thrown in a rainbow colored pit with a wolverine high on PCP and angel dust.
If you try it and don't like it, fine, don't say it permanantly fucked your life. It really can't do that, unless you crash into a pole while driving home on the weed... In that case, how would you know if you like it or not, your DEAD!
If you try it and like it, fine. Don't come up to me and ask how I'm doing. I'm probably doing shitty because I'm probably not high myself.
I tried to make a comical overtone to this post. I really dont' mean to anyone with this, and if I do, my bad. But, honestly, do try it once... Just so you know what the big hub-bub about bud is. And you can't deny that hemp was a good commercial product... rope, sails, clothes... It's strong shit man!

Hey, i just read this thread for the first time today abd i'd like to add my opinions if i may.
I myself have tried pot, several times, but none of them were what i would class as experiences i would like to repeat. No, i didn't get paranoid and have a fear of what might happen, i was relaxed, it worked, but i just didn't like losing touch with reality, which for me is what pot does.
I think that there has been too much focus on the biological arguement in this thread. To me, with my rudimentary understanding of the human brain (1st year uni psychology student), i can't see how weed doesn't affect your brain. But hey, i'm not medical practitioner. But what i do know, from several first hand experiences, is that weed will screw you up. Maybe it doesn't screw everyone up, but keep doing it and the odds are stacked heavily against you. My brother started smoking weed when he was about 15 (ish). Two years later, after being a smoker the whole time, he dropped out of school and has done nothing since. Its not just the effect it has had on his life practices, but he has serious psychological problems because of what weed has done to him. He didn't smoke excessively more than other people. I knew other people (who i'll come to in a moment) who smoked a lot more than him. His life will forever be hindered because of what pot has done to him. Now, i'm going to say something here that will probably offend the smokers on this board, but i think i have the right to say it: as i sat and read this thread and listened to you not only condoning pot use, but encouraging it, it made me feel upset and angry that you would be encouraging such a destructive force. I think it's plain irresponsible, and i think that you ought to really stay the hell out of other peoples lives. I was encouraged to smoke and i regretted it alot. Don't, i repeat, don't you dare encourage it on other poeple. Even if there is only a chance that their lives will be negatively affected from pot, it is a decision that it theirs to make, free of any peer pressure. What in the hell gives you the right to influence their decision?
As i was saying earlier, there are numerous other examples i have personally had where pot has been nothing but a destructive influence. My best friend of 3 years took up smoking pot (it was my brother who encouraged him) and his life has turned out almost the same way as my brothers. He became withdrawn from his friends, he lost his girlfriend of 2 years due to pot use, and he ended up dropping out of school. God knows what he's doing now.
My high school business studies teacher, with whom i am close friends and keep in contact with regularly, his son was a smoker and he now resides in a mental hospital. He developed paranoid schizophrenia from over smoking.
One of my family's close friends has used pot for close to two decades. He suffers from long term memory loss. Not only this but his wife and 10 month old daughter are effected by his drug use.
To those who say "but i only like pot for the high it gives me". I challenge you to objectively look around you at the smokers you know. If there is not one among them that has been negatively effected by pot, give it time, there will be.
This post has been mainly aimed at those who smoke regularly (i.e. not those who smoke less than once in every week/2 weeks). Generally i don't interfere in the affairs of weed smokers, but the idea that you encourage people to partake in it absolutely sickens me.

its easy to blame weed but is there any proof that its connected to mental problem or would that person just have had the problem anyways even with out weed, isnt it likely that just as many people who smoke and dont smoke drop out of school or maybe there are other factors at play
marathon runs are the group that die most commonly from cancer, why? because they are fit and dont get heart diease, statements can be easily warped
I dont think it has ever been shown that thc has long term effects on the brain or other adverse long term effects and this is a plant that has been greatly studied.
just my 2cents

The effects of smoking Cannabis are usually lighter than those of many other recreational psychoactive substances. People are generally capable of carrying out normal actions and activities while high.
POSITIVE
mood lift
relaxation, stress reduction
creative, philosophical or deep thinking : ideas flow more easily
increased appreciation of music. More aware of, deeper connection to music.
increased awareness of senses. (eating, drinking, smell)
change in experience of muscle fatigue. Pleasant body feel. Increase in body/mind connection.
pain relief (headaches, cramps)
reduced nausea, increased appetite (used medically for this)
NEUTRAL
general change in consciousness (as with many psychoactives)
increased appetite, snacky-ness
slowness (slow driving, talking)
tiredness
blood shot eyes (more common with certain varieties of cannabis and inexperienced users)
mouth dryness, sticky-mouth (varies with strain)
interrupts linear memory. Difficulty following a train of thought.
cheek, jaw, facial tension / numbness (less commonly reported)
racing thoughts (especially at high doses)
NEGATIVE
nausea, especially in combination with alcohol, some pharmaceuticals, or other psychoactives
coughing, asthma, upper respiratory problems
difficulty with short term memory during effects and during periods of frequent use
racing heart, agitation, feeling tense
mild to severe anxiety
panic attacks in sensitive users or with very high doses (oral use increases risk of getting too much)
headaches
dizziness, confusion
paranoid & anxious thoughts more frequent
possible psychological dependence on cannabis
clumsiness, loss of coordination at high doses
WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS
mild to moderate, non life-threatening withdrawal symptoms occur after daily use in some users. These may last for 1-6 weeks after cessation of use and can include anxiety, anhedonia (reduced experience of pleasure), headaches, general unease/discomfort, difficulty sleeping, and a desire to smoke pot. Severity of symptoms is related to frequency of use and individual sensitivity.
slight loss of appetite
finding non-stoned life a bit dull, increased boredom
Negative effects can include paranoia, dry mouth, respiratory problems and nervousness/racing heart. Other effects may be negative or inconvenient in certain settings or situations including reduced ability to concentrate, impaired memory, tiredness, and confusion. Side effects tend to increase with lifetime use: as users age, they often report the anxiety-producing and uncomfortable effects increase and the euphoria decreases.
Contraindications:
Avoid Driving - While there has been little formal study into the effects of cannabis on driving, it is generally a good idea to avoid driving while under the influence of any psychoactive or intoxicating substance. Several studies have shown that drivers who use alcohol and cannabis in combination are far less capable than when taking either substance alone. Some studies have shown that cannabis causes impairment in driving performance, but that users often are aware of the impairment and compensate by driving more carefully.
Addiction Potential:
Regular use of cannabis can lead to psychological habituation for some people making it difficult for them to quit. Studies have estimated that between 5 and 10% of those who try smoking cannabis will become daily users sometime during their life, but most of these smokers will have given up the habit by age 30 and few remain daily smokers after age 40. Most people do not experience signs of physical addiction, but with regular daily use use, mild to medium withdrawal symptoms usually occur for less than a week, but can extend for as long as 6 weeks.
Long Term Health Problems:
The most common negative health impact of regular cannabis smoking are lung and throat problems including: coughing, increased frequency of throat and lung infections, and reduced lung capacity. There are concerns about possible long term carcinogenic (cancer causing) effects of cannabis smoking, but the results are still somewhat controversial. It can be safely said, however, that health risks increase with frequency and duration of smoking anything.
Poisoning:
There are no confirmed, published deaths from cannabis-only poisoning. There are a small number of people who report serious cannabis allergies which cause unexpectedly intense reactions, throat & lung irritation, etc.
Heart Issues:
Because cannabis increases heart rate, it could potentially increase risks of heart problems in those at risk of heart disease. One study found that cannabis use increased the risk of heart attack in men over 40, but its findings were weak and based on a very small number of individuals. In a large study of 65,000 individuals in California by Sidney et al in 1997, cannabis was not found to increase mortality rates among users under 50.
Mental Illness:
Several studies have indicated that cannabis use (like many other strong psychoactives) can precipitate neuroses or psychoses in those who are already at risk. Studies have also shown that cannabis use does not appear to increase the risk of psychosis in otherwise healthy individuals.

I think everybody should smoke pot atleast once. that way they arent just using facts that other people gave them as evidence of why marijuana is bad. they can make their own informed decision.
Plus i myself think that pot is alot different from other drugs such as alcohol, and actually makes you think different. i know i sound like an old hippy when i say that pot "expands your mind" but it will sure as hell make you look at certain things in a different light
