I disagree. I think it is undeniable that people needlessly die on train lines. There is a good arguement probably that they are too stupid to live although I'm sure in some situations there are other factors. Anyway people dieing on public land costs tax payers money and makes the local government liable for damages - so it makes sense that people are not allowed to walk on train lines as it is saving the nation money which can be spent on more worthy causes like killing arabs. There is also, of course, the moral arguement about trying to stop people from dieing.

This is not to say that most people are unable to safely walk on train lines - but that the small percentage of people who can't cost the government enough money to make it economically viable to stop everybody from walking on the train lines.

Too exessive for sure, a light fine i could understand, but being arrested, this cop was either a total cock or he was trying to make his quota. People have always walked on traintracks, always will, why because its a path somewhere. I used to as a kid next to the golf course, but I still wasn't stupid enough to get hit.

It saves them years of healthcare, and social security payouts, more so in more heavily socialized systems.


Of course, they need us to live long enough, to pay into the system for a decade or two, THEN croak.

As much as I am for private property and persons right not to let another man walk upon it, a fine does seem excessive. Everyone's walked or played around railroad tracks before, and if it had been a dad and his son or something, they definitely would've probably only gave a warning.

Whatever. I don't mind cops. They mostly just have an inferiority complex (Which I can relate to) that drives them into being police officers, and of course makes them dicks who want to exert their power however they can.

You could always appeal the fine too. Were there sign posts to suggest that people who walk on railway lines were tresspassing? A big fence you had to climb over? I don't know the American law that well, but that's the kinda stuff I'd be looking for to make a tresspassing fine stick.

That said, there's probably specific legislation that outlaws the walking on railway lines by un authorised people.

You might get off if you could provide a good explanation for why you were on the railroad. But I'm guessing the cops may have asked you that before they arrested you?

um the tracks are abandoned, meaning there hasnt been a train on them for over 7 years and i shouldnt have been arrested.. i should've been simply given a warning or ticketed and let go, not cuffed and all that bullshit

not in the area of the arrest, it was me and 2 other kids.. my friend shane and i were already walking the tracks on a sunday evening with nothing to do then i called my friend craig and he came out there then cops came and shit started getting weird
