What I find most amusing out of all this is that this event (Zidane's head butt) is eclipsing the fact that Italy won the world cup. The French Media are all over this, this was to be expected, but a lot of international media, Italy's included, are talking about this A LOT.

Just to inform the modifiers, according to a recent servey by France's leading newspaper, 60 or so % of the French are behind Zidane and his actions.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this statistic if anything at all.

What I've heard is 61% of the French forgive Zidane for his behaviour...

Zidane will explain the circumstances of his actions at 8 pm (European time) on a French channel.

A lip reader from ESPN said that Materazzi said

"I wish an ugly death to you and all your family. Go fuck yourself"

The only conclusion one can make so far about this whole story is that lip readers are swindlers. :D
I've heard 3 or 4 different versions from lip readers and they're all completely different.

Zidane apologized, told it (what Materazzi said) concerned his mother and sister but didn't want to tell the exact words.

Marcello Lippi decided to quit as the champion, but what's worse:
KLINSI NEEEEEEEEEIN!!! If this is the payback for the German fans' mocking before the tournament, it's a very cruel one. Klinsmann, I counted on the team all the time, even when the Germans didn't! :(
Damn it I'd wipe my ass with the two-faced Bild magazine if it wasn't that hard to find one here. :x

Alex asked
When France were receiving the medals, Zidane wasnt there. Is it because:

A) HE wasnt allowed to?
B) He cbf'ed?
I believe that technically he is not allowed back onto the pitch and has to sit and watch from the dressing rooms, thats not to say that he tried to come out and they said no. If France had of won then it would have been interesting to see if they would have let him back out - we'll never know.
Dessaire (sp?) was sent off in 98, was he allowed back out when they received the trophy?

Cool cheers Dyalan,

A bit off, but wtf was Zidane wearing during his interview on thet show! It was like there was some blanket on him because he was rescued from the Alps or something...its funny coz Materrazi is denying that he said anything about his mother, who to believe? I'd put my money on the guy without the tatoos

That's something new. I just thought he was too pissed to go there back in front of everyone after what he did. (With "everyone" I mean the 1.3 billion people who watched the final.)
I mean, the match was already over, the referee had already whistled and it was just receiving the medals that was left there, so I don't see any point why he wouldn't be allowed to go back onto the pitch.
Someone call Blatter? :P

I'm pretty sure he was allowed to get out for the ceremony, but I would say he was too pissed.

Since this final Zidane is one of my favourite football players!
