Vid n' Story courtesy of cloaked

Post by kyle »

I started playing hack about two and a half years ago in high school. I lot of people used to play in elimination circles, where the object was to hit the hack three times and then kick it at someone to try and eliminate them from the circle. Back then I only knew a few people that could do a toe, inside or outside stall. After about a year and a half of playing I had gotten so much better than everyone else, that everyone just stopped playing. I can recall joining a hack circle and having everyone leave 30 seconds latter. It was demoralizing for the average player to struggle to get 3 hits when I could do crazy stall combos (with consistent moves like "royal jester stalls", pendulums, and around the worlds) and eliminate them with a dead accurate kick.

So starting about a year ago, I went from playing everyday to occasionally playing once a month with a good friend of mine (who can now do many basic stalls). During that time I discovered footbag online. After downloading the worlds 2004 video's I was amazed. I had never even imagined some of those moves and with such consistency too. I tried doing many of those tricks without any success, so my hopes of becoming great were crushed (now I realize that I just need to learn how to dex off a set while the hack is still going up, currently I'm setting the hack and then going after it in the air while its peaked or already falling.) So last winter I decided to preserve my skill in this video (sorry for the red text) and retire my hack for the time being.

I was thinking about starting up a hack club this year for college, but then I found something better. I joined the Michigan Footbag Group, a few guys usually play about every week within an hours drive. Now I'm on the road to getting better, but I'd like to know where I'm starting from - square one, or I'm I an average player in the online footbag community. :?:

- 8O wow, guess I needed to share a story. Thanks for your time guys. :)

Uhm, I'd say you're at a beginning point for freestyle footbag. Looks like you got a couple of basics down, just keep practicing every day and trying to master new 2 add moves, and you'll be well on your way to footbag glory!

If you haven't already, check out Anz' Trik Vids A lot of the basic moves are shown in video format there. Then just keep building from there. Good luck!

Nice vid and story, I enjoyed them. As for your question, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that you've got a great foundation. This is clear since you did so many tricks in there without any cuts the vid. The bad news is that you're still really a beginner. That's all good though, it happens to the best of us ;). Welcome to the forum, and happy shredding.

ps - the next thing you should be working on is to get those clippers working with your left foot.

Yep, got those, now I just need to put them to good use.

Thankfully I've already got a solid left foot. I try to do every trick with my left after I learn it with my right. In fact, if I can't figure out a trick with my right foot, I'll try it with my left foot to get a different perspective on the move. This helps me learn tricks much faster. :)

Good vid looks like you are already putting together kickless links! That's a good start. Like the other guys said, work on all moves both sides, you'll be very glad you did.

Another thing. SHORTS! If you want to get good at freestyle, pants are really going to limit your mobility. So break out yer old gym shorts the next time you shred. It will really make a difference.

Keep at it, and keep making videos! Peace-

Like everyone else has said: you have a good base. 20 seconds of mostly stalls is not that easy, begginners usually have 5 contact strings or so.

Also the shorts will give you a lot more mobility and space.
best of luck

If you stick to it, you will probably be a good freestyle player. Keep practicing both sides and get the right equipment, and you'll be well on your way. I hope to see more with shorts and shoes!

That's a great attitude to have, it really helps when you're trying to string together tricks- which is where I think all the fun is.

You guys will have to let me know when you're getting together to kick. I want in. :D

Nice video, like Max (and everyone else) was saying it's impressive to see twenty seconds of stalls like that, including some bigger tricks.
