Possible to get good on your own?

Well it can be hard to meet up with other shredders if they live far away. It can be hard to meet up with other chess players if they live next door. Anwyay it's definatley good to meet up with other shredders for a kick, you can improve on your own, with resources such as modified, but it might take longer that way.

By the way do you play internet chess?

ok, heres a post by a 2 years alone shredder.

you can defenatly get good, but only when you realy, and i mean, realy want it! and try go too events near you. i go too every event i can, cause, they mostly go 2 or 3 days, and you will learn more on these days than in 3 month before it!

so you can get better, and even good. but it makes no real fun. but keeo the eyes open for hacky sackers. maybe you can get soem of em into freestyle, so you have someone to kick with!

you can get good on your own, of course . maby you guys have heard of
Jorden or Stefan Siegert, they're solo shredders and they aer, well, good .

i reckon you need a lot of passion, dicipline and honesty to make it on your own.

and you neeeeed to go to a lot of tourneys for advice, correction and
inspiration.

is it just me, or do solo shredders have a creativity bonus comming with
their package ?

i love to play alone, because i am impatient and i love to work on details,
but i'm glad that to have such wonderful companions in my town .

Yeah this is a good thing to do i've been shreding for 1 and 1/2 month's and got 3 people to footbag.Going to kick with Zenja today

And ill probably go to the next footbag competition in Russia

wish i had the possibility to go to worlds

I play no chess at all. it was just an example. But I'll play you if you want to anyways.

I am a good example of a lone player. I've been playing for about two months officially. Usually I play at least an hour everyday depending on the weather and injury status. Instead of a "morning jog" I play some 'morning footbag' to get me up for the day. Its great and I'm enjoying the game a lot.

So far I know:

atw (both sides)
double atw (right) (just got it!)
mirage (both)
paradox mirage (both)
legover (both)
clipper (both)
osis (both)
pendulum
butterfly (both)
pickup (both)
stepping set (left)

best combo: toe>clip>legover>butterfly>mirage

I feel that by playing alone a lot one can really drill the moves and get them down faster than playing in a group. But, you get worn out faster - my sessions are usually less than a half hour before I'm exhausted and drenched.

Once you have someone instructing you in person, I think it makes your skill go WAY up, nothing unrealistic about meeting a person off the internet, because its like the phone dude. Imagine calling a footbag club in washington and saying, HEY DUDES WANNA PLAY. Its like... being a guitar player (i know this can be done independantly) but when youre starting, Its better to have someone guide you through the basics, would you rather learn guitar on your own or have Steve Vai teach you? Its not some thing where you have to be buddy buddy driving to the club all the time... its like "hey lets play in seattle park for a an hour or two" then you go home, not such a big deal.

i play by myself and am the best out of my group of friends. they can merely hack, and do a toe stall, pendulum (sometimes), and a really sucky mirage.

i've taught myself to hack, all the stalls (yes, all of them), including squeeze, sole, heel, knee, and cloud stalls, mirage, atw, ducking, pixie, fairy, and osis... several others like: nuclear, and spinning toe...
i'm still pretty noob, and don't have all these tricks down pat, but i can nail them none-the-less.

i try helping my friends, but they don't show as much an interest in footbag as i do, so most of the time, its just me... soloing it.

i improve by teaching myself and watching videos, but i'm sure that i'd improve much faster if i had someone else who was better than me, leading me and teaching me the correct method to each trick...

basically the best way to learn, is with an instructor/mentor/someone who pwns more than you
