Navy Pier Session Review
Freddy, Kudo, Reile, Zeke, Meinard, CJ Al and Tom.
We went inside to avoid the heat. Cold AC! Nice carpet. Beautiful view of the lake.
Good 4 square. Later we roped off the king square with those ropes they use for lines at banks and movie theatre lines. You could spike from above the rope but still play below it. Great rule!
Later the guys played net with the ropes.
Later later we jumped over the ropes. for distance. for creativeness. with somersaults. SO FUN!
Also there was this beach ball thingy that was pretty fun to kick around.
Freestyled with Al. He's getting pretty solid. I'm excited about him coming back and progressing in freestyle.

What makes a shred session a CIC session? Well, obviously you'll need several club members supplimented with some local kickers. Food. Great food is always a plus. Shitloads of goofing around and nonsense. Sundays session was 2 out of 3. The food was ok, and it was seriously over priced. Other than that if was perfect. Still lots of fun, though. Probably the most fun I've ever had at the pier.
Reile and I were driving around downtown for 45 minutes for (free) street parking. It was getting quite frustrating but at least we were in an airconditioned rental since his van was in the shop. We decided that we'll just go ahead and park in a lot and pay $25
. We drive up to the lot closest to the pier and notice a open space right before the entrance. SCORE
We parked and hooked up with Freddy and Kudo outside the pier. I talked a bit with CJ who was working outside in an ice cream stand. He would be getting off in an hour and a half and meet up with us later. Tom arrives and we walked inside to check for a spot in the Crystal Gardens atrium. We hacked there and waited for a few more people to show up. Tony calls and I guide him to the spot. Al called soon after and get him to the spot as well.
We grab all our stuff and walked over to the convention halls in the middle of the pier, on the floor above the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows. Freddy and I dropped off our bags and headed back to the front of the pier to get some food while the others set up my rope 4-square court. They taped down the ends to the carpet since we couldnt use the spikes. It was a long and crowded walk back to the food court. I hate crowded areas. I would have just walked outside if it wasn't so hot. Everything is expen$ive at the pier. They make so much off tourists. The only cheap place to eat is at McDonalds... screw that. I got a turkey sub at a deli and asked freddy to get me some seasoned curly fries at the place he ordered at. Already screwed over one of my monthly goals. I called CJ since he was about to get off work and he told me that he still had to clean up and would meet us back at the spot.
Freddy and I make the long walk back to see a game of squares already in progress. CJ shows up not long after with someone who I thought was his sister and it turns out to be his mom (
) We started playing squares and not long after someone proposed that we use a beachball we found in the hallway. This is where the fun began for me. In one of the first plays the ball was kicked above and slighty behind Kudo and he flat out missed it with an outside kick. "YOU MISSED!!! HOW DID YOU MISS?!?!?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I ended up on the floor cuz I was laughing so hard (first of many this session). In another game I tried blasting Freddy with the ball to make it bounce out-of-bounds. He just stood there and grunted and it came right back to me. I blasted him again and he gave another half-assed grunt as he just stood there and returned it. A third try, BANG! Yet another grunt From Freddy and I found the ball bouncing off him at a bad angle which I kicked out of bounds. What a kill, he did absolutely nothing and I got out!
We tried several rules with the beach ball too. Spike after 4 contacts and spikes allowed but only with a knee. With the knee spike rule on Tom and I both tried a flying knee spike at the same high pass. We met in the air as our knees both glanced off the beach ball and our shins collided. Thank fully it didn't hurt but I wish it had been captured on camera, it probably looked cool as hell.
Too bad Reile's camra broke again. I would have liked to have seen jumping footage. It's not something I could explain... you would have to have been there to see some of the funny/amazing stuff. Oh, and what's a true CIC session without a game of CROTCHFIRE? Al joined me and Reile for a quick game, none of us got hit but I did manage to fart all over Reiles head. What a great day

This was SO fun. It was surprising to see how many legal passes below the line went uncontested! It just seemed like it took defenders longer to proccess. Spiking on purpose is way more difficult than it looks but I did manage to get a few good flying knees and a few sloppy scuffs over the line. We stretched the ropes across the center of the 4S court and played doubles net. There were quite a few good rallies, defensive plays and some nasty spikes. I think I played well with both Reile and Meinard as my partners but had the most fun with Freddy on my team. Kudo was suddenly on fire and single handedly took us apart. We rallied back to massacre them the next game, 15-3 with Fredward scoring like a machine.Later we roped off the king square with those ropes they use for lines at banks and movie theatre lines.
