Soda addiction

Post by smokefree »

Wow... I didn't think it was possible to be addicted to soda, but i've been drinking soda heavily for years, I stopped drinking all sodas last week, and got sick after.. i felt shitty and had anxiety for days, now i feel good though.. only drinking water and juice. I want to never again touch a soda, anyone else have problems quitting? Ive tried to quit before but i caved in.

That's caffeine for you. Cravings, headaches, and anxiety are pretty common when you're going through caffeine withdrawal. You have to just stick through it and think about how gross it is that your body was so used to soda that it's reacting so heavily to caffeine being taken out of it's system.

I'm not a big soda drinker (anymore) but I decided to give soda up for the summer. I was fine for about a month then someone handed me half a can of Dr. Pepper when I was in pain and I drank it up without thinking. I felt like kicking myself. But since then I have been okay with the break... except for my late night craving two nights ago when I tried drinking other things to fill the immense soda void I was feeling. It did not work. The only soda in the house was one can in the fridge that belongs to my roommates, so I didn't drink it. I think a key to quitting drinking soda is taking away the opportunity and giving yourself lots of other good things to drink. I love orange juice and Silk so with those in the house I'm fine.

A good suggestion is to not let yourself have any ever if you want to quit. You'll end up giving yourself too many free-bees and end up (soda) drinking again.

I never had a problem with it, but I've cut down what I did drink over this past year or two, and now I barely drink it.

I remember reading in a magazine (I think Muscle and Fitness Hers) that if one drinks a can of pop a day, (s)he will gain 15 pounds only from that by the end of the year. 8O Eek...I hope I remembered that right.

Maybe if the person never excersizes, and even then, the amount of weight gained will vary from person to person....

I've drank several cans of pop everday, for several years, and have maintained a weight of 135lbs, at 5% body fat. (My diet is by no means ideal, lots of pizza, fast food, soda, etc)

Yeah. I think I must have missed something, or the research wasn't done correctly. I don't know.

This is really weird, cause one of my best friends told me about 2 weeks ago how bad diet coke (my favorite and the only soda I drink) and I sopped cold turkey. I'm used to drinking them at lunch or after school so it's really hard after summerschool.

yah, I think diet coke is really bad for you because of the ass-per-tain (I cant spell),

As for me, I used to be a big soda drinker, until this year. I really had no problems quitting at all. I try to drink water over other things but about every 5 days or so I might have a small sprite or gatorade

Sprite is totally soda.

I used to drink pop (thats midwest for soda) all the time! I drank so much. Bought 2 liters and drank like 40's sometimes with friends. I decided to become healthier and stopped eating cheese fries (which I did almost every day at the time), adding salt to food, and drinking pop! Cold turkey.
That was 11 years ago!

I don't think drinking pop is that bad, but all the water and juice I drink in place of it is way healthier.

Yeah, highly agreed moxie... last time I tried to quit, when I caved in, my parents bought 60 sodas and stuffed them all over the counter next to the fridge.... Besides being bad its a waste of money when youre going through a lot of them. Soda, pizza, of course one can eat this while maintaining the same weight (depends on the person) like i can for example, but that doesn't make it any better for your insides.
CIC: ! You hit the nail on the head... as a child I put salt on EVERYTHING. And not just a little bit.

I gave up soda about 2 years ago and it was one of the best things I've done. I drink mostly water and milk, and sometimes gatorade or fruit juice. Of course I have soda every once and a while, but probably only 5 times a year max.

My body never had withdrawl symptoms when I stopped drinking soda, but now if I drink more than a can of soda in a day, I get a headache and the shakes.

I never realized how much my body craved water until I started drinking water regularly. Now I can't go a day without drinking a lot of water.

Haha nice avatar dude, I love Conan the Librarian. I heard Gatorade was equally bad as soda but for your teeth.
