That sucks. What part of it hurts, Josh?

I kicked for about fifteen minutes before I felt a twinge in my left knee and quit. My patellas feel fine for the most part-- absolutely no dull pain or sharp pain, which means they're definitely healing. The sharp twinge I felt meant that a little bit of the patella pulled loose, which isn't surprising given it's in the rebuilding stage, but it's not a huge thing: I'm getting closer to healed.

I wanna shred badly, but I wanna be able to shred 10 years from now more badly.

It's right below the knee.

Image

Right there, or maybe a little lower. It doesn't hurt to walk, but when I jump on my toe, ie: doing a butterfly, it begins to hurt. I can rub my hand over and apply some pressure, but when I massage it, thats when I feel it.

It is getting better. I'm gonna see what happens tomorrow with a little more kicking and no tricks.

Ahahaha. I think you're indicating your patella tendon, if that's the front of the knee. There's not much else around that could be causing the problem. If it is your patella, then you either 1) tore something in it (very unlikely) or 2) you are getting patellar tendonitis-- which is what I have. The best bet is for you to get better supports for your shoes, take a few days off, massage your patellas to facilitate blood flow, and put ice on them several times a day, especially if you decide to keep kicking on them (which isn't really a great idea).

Sorry you're getting it, but it's a sign that you are playing hard... that's a good thing, eh? eh?

Thanks Zach. I don't really want to get better supports and then cut the to fit my clima's. Right now I'm putting Super Blue Stuff on my knee and it really helps. I might try icing it later, probably after I do some light kicking and no tricks. Yesterday my knee felt really good afterwards.

Are you doing any pt for this? Or are you just staying off your feet?

I played again today, I was really focusing on the stong foundation idea. I made a little workout-type schedule that I thought up. Anyway here was my session almost exactly. It took a while and at times it was pretty tiring, but I manage to meet all of my goals. I did not count drops, so if on legover #2 I dropped it I started at 2 again.

Kicking for a few songs to warm up
Toe stall x200 (switching feet every one, I did this dropless)
Inside stall x100 (dropped it on 94, darn)
same side clippers X50 - both sides
alternating clippers x100
ATW in>out x50 - both sides
ATW out>in x50 - both sides
Legover x100 - alternating
Pickup x100 - alternating
Mirage x50 - both sides
Illusion x50 - both sides
same side butterfly x50 - both sides
Infinity x100
Osis x50 - both sides
Pixie (as a set) x50 - both sides
Whirl x20 - both sides
Gyro Clip x20 - both sides

I ended with 4 consecutive ducking clippers for fun. A new record for them. Woohoo.

If I'm missing any basics, someone tell me what they are and maybe I can squeeze them in somewhere. Not other sets though, I want to focus on pixie and stepping, but I forgot to add stepping. I'll hit up stepping tomorrow if I play.

Amazingly I've already noticed improvements.
My weak side clipper got less rolly as I did more clippers.
My flip illusions became more consistent near the end.
I was able to link 4 osis consecutively once, and 3 many times. (I've never hit 4 osis until today)
I hit whirl two consecutive times on both sides, a couple of times. (another thing I haven't hit until today)
And my gyro clippers got a lot better.

I think I'm going to do this schedule for the next week, and then after that maybe I'll tweak it a little or just stick with it. I need to drill more, I want to get really good at footbag.

Yeah, I recently decided I'd try doing that sort of thing too. I might try doing it every other session once I get back in playing shape. One session for working new concepts like atomic, fairy, and spinning, and one session for drilling basics hard.

Played again today, just did that work out. It was a lot harder because today was hotter and less cloudy. Tomorrow I'm going to rest. The one thing I noticed about today that annoyed me a lot is how rolly my left side clipper is. It was frusturating, after playing this long I feel like that kind of thing shouldn't happen any more. I hope it gets better now that I'm drilling basics more.

Jake, that "workout" schedule looks wicked.

I kicked again yesterday. There was absolutetly NO PAIN what so ever! It felt good. I'm gonna take the next 4 days off, for when I kick with some fellow shredders on Fri. During these next 4 days I'm gonna be stitching an new bag, probably 2 new ones, and I'm gonna be relaxing. Props to everyone thats hitting new tricks, hope the kicking gets better for everyone.

Later..

Not playing for a while. Wednesday I might try to do 100 fairy sets each side on carpet, but no shred for sure till Friday.

Hahah thanks Josh and Matt. I think today it took me just a little over two hours to finish 8O . It's pretty long. I personally think it gets easier after the infinities, the last few things don't seem like they take as much energy. I also decided not to add stepping into it for now, because it would take me like 15+ more minutes to finish, and by the end of what I have I'm beat. And my damn left side clipper is still to rolly to be really consistent with stepping.

I'm glad I've started some inspiration, good luck with whatever you decide to do. Oh and post your schedule if you make one up! It'd be interesting to see what other players want to work on.

Sounds like a good idea.

I think this method of drilling the basics could turn out to be really beneficial. Muscle memory is targeted most along with endurance, and for those kicking alone there's no need to feel like you're holding someone up from serious shred. Having said that, I think this routine should be done maybe every other session, with more links and diversity, to teach a nice, smooth, transitional game at the same time.

Kicking warm up - Consecutive insides, toes, then inside-outside alternating.
Toe stall x60 alternating, Dropless
Same Clippers x20 both sides, Dropless
Alternating Clippers x20
Spinning Clippers x15 each side
ATW x30 each leg, alternating directions
Mirage > Pickup > rpt - 40 contacts
Ducking, Diving clippers x20 each, both sides
Illusion > Legover > rpt - 40 contacts
ss Butterfly > Infinity > rpt - 40 contacts
Whirl x20 each side
Toe Whirl x10 each side
Osis x10 each side from both toes and clippers
Pixie Legover x20 each side
Stepping Legover x20 each side

I'll see where that gets me next time I shred, then amend it if needed.

Thanks for the idea, I'm looking forward to this!

I think that I am going to shorten my list of things to do. It takes me WAY to long, today I couldn't even do it because of the heat. I finished all the foundation moves at least, but was to tired to want to do osis, whirls, pixies, infinities, and gyro clippers. I am hoping to get another session in today, but it will just be random shred like I used to. I'm looking forward to it, I hope I get it in.

*few hours after original post*
I did get in another session

Hit butterfly>crispy barrage bsos
Lots of good guiltless runs, was fun

Oh and Lackey that looks sweet man. Maybe I'll try that one and see if I like it more than mine next time I'm going to drill.

My endurance SUCKS!

Kicking for a few songs to warm up
Toe stall x200 (switching feet every one)
Inside stall x100 (dropped it on 89...)
same side clippers X50 - both sides
alternating clippers x100
ATW in>out x50 - both sides
ATW out>in x50 - both sides
Legover x36

I'm about to pass out.

I'm so out of shape.

But I love the idea! It's cool. I'll be working on it for a long while, If I'm gonna get it. I haven't played in over a week so that might have a factor.
Only other thing I hit today:

Spinning clipper>flapper>clipper It felt stylie.

I play solo at least 95% of the time. I'm probably not going to post too often in here, because I don't really do like daily blog posts or even after each session. But I just wanted to say I think it's an excellent idea, and a great way to keep motivated when there's no one around to motivate you, or give you props on a new move.

I don't know how to quote, but...

Spinning clipper>flapper>clipper is sweet. Flapper mid string is always stylie!

I took a few days break due to loads of work and letting my body rest/relax.

I did my workout, but I did half of everything, because doing all of everything is so much work and I wanted to freestyle a little. I think I ate too heavily before I played because the whole time I felt like I was going to puke up the food I ate (2 breakfast sandwiches).
My gyro clippers are growing more consistent quickly, I think I can nail them mid-string now if I want.
I hit 4 consecutive osii and footed the 5th.
For some reason I cannot get a feel for my flipside toe whirl, but I have hit whirl>whirl>whirl on that side. Strong side toe whirl is an easy trick for me, I don't get it.
I hit torque BSOS (maybe for the first time?) in a VERY short string that was like 3 or 4 tricks
My torques are more consistent, I guess because my osis are getting more consistent (yay for foundation!).

I ended with my family coming over and being like wtf... you're pretty good. I hit DLO>flip DLO>short string infront of my step bro and his friend, I felt like the man.

I'm planning on playing again later because I don't have work, maybe I'll do the second half of my workout, that sounds like a decent idea. Then I can shred a little bit more.

Also, I have a few questions that I've been thinking of.

1. Does spinning imply gyro + a far or paradox component? Gyro whirl is back spin + whirl, and spinning whirl is back spin + pdx whirl? Or is that wrong...

2. When is Kickass2, I'm going to college at Queen's University (in Kingston conviently) and I get there September 3rd. I hope that's in time, it'd be so fricken sweet to kick off my first year of college with my first footbag tournament ever.

Thanks.

edit... I got in that other session, and I wasn't planning on updating but it kicked so much ass I think I have to.

I hit 3 new 5's all in one session

OMG, Barraging set is rediculously hard, but I came soooooo close to Jani Walker, which would have been my first 3 dex. Oh well, I was just messing around, and probably won't really try it for a few months.

I had a pretty good stoned session today lol....lots of long tiltless strings that flowed really well.

I hit mirage>legover>rpt>illusion>pickup>rpt>butter>pdx mirage>rpt, that felt fantastic

I also hit a bunch of strings with ducking clipper bsos and gyro clipper bsos

My osis are finally getting a little better...still very inconsistent, but i finally hit butter>osis>pdx mirage>rpt

And finally, i hit atomic legover, pickup, and clipper....I also footed double illusion and legbeater!

i also came extremely close to spinning osis>ducking clipper!
