You gotta bookmark this page:shreddaily wrote:Nice: Props to Grant for the 192, Reg for the one legged sick 3. Whats pandemonium again? sick 1s were high level no doubt!

Pandemonium is backside pigbeater.
So Alpine Pandemonium is Pixie Ducking Symp Eggbeater, 6 adds I believe. How come that beats Montage which is a 7? Curious to hear the subtleties of shred well above my skill level...

Montage is a single dex trick with a spinning, ducking, pdx, and symposium component. It is a fairly common trick in sick1's and is argueably the "easiest" 7 add or at least the first 7 add that most people hit (loses creativity points).
Alpine pandemonium is a triple dex trick with an uptime set, ducking, and symposium component. Kevin does a "symple pixie" set when he does pandemonium and IMO it is more difficult to duck a symple set. In addition there are 2 dexes to clean after the duck. One of them happens to be symposium. Like Andrew mentioned, it is a very rare trick and this is the first time (to my knowledge) that it's been hit in a sick1 competition (creativity points++).

props to Andrew "I'm wounded and can only play at maybe 15% of my level right now but I'll give it a shot anyway" Grant for his 192 (get well soon and go spank Vasek!)
I would also like to know why on earth the following two entries where not ranked exactly the opposite (i.e. Byrin second and Kevin first)?
1) Byrin Wylie : phoenix > blurry whirl > blurriest
2) Kevin Regamey : alpha legbeater > pdx flail > symp eggbeater
And props for alpine pandemonium, that kicks ass

Sick3 was a little bit more tricky to judge.
1) Byrin Wylie : phoenix > blurry whirl > blurriest
- 5 > 5 > 5
- 2 dex with ducking component after set > 2 dex with set and pdx > 3 dex with set
- uses stepping set on bothsides
- different downtime component for each trick
- not very creative links although the combo still flowed well
2) Kevin Regamey : alpha legbeater > pdx flail > ss symp eggbeater
- 5 > 4 > 4
- 2 dex with symp set > single dex with pdx and symp > double dex
- uses both flails
- creative and styley links
I think that the difficulty and execution of Byrin's combo made up for the lack of creativity and put it slightly ahead of Kevin's combo. If Kevin had put in a ps egg for the second trick or a pandemonium for the last trick (as he did in montana) I think he would have taken the cake. In this case though, Byrin takes the cake.

of course I can't comment on execution and I know that counts a lot. Still, talking strictly in terms of difficulty I find Kevin's combo a lot harder and orders of magnitude ahead in uniqueness / creativityI think that the difficulty and execution of Byrin's combo made up for the lack of creativity and put it slightly ahead of Kevin's combo.

I've been without internet for a little while here...but I just want to thank everyone again for making it out. Tournaments cease to exist without the support, so we're definitely mucho thankful.
I'll post some video soon most likely, just raw competition footage.
